I was in Ghana last summer for two weeks and had the best time of my life. So, I’m just gonna put it out there…when I was in the markets and someone wanted to sell me a bracelet for 50 cedis, or about eight bucks, did I sweat it and say, hey I’ll give you 25? Hell no. I gave him or her the 50 cedis and we laughed and joked about it and I felt good about it. Do you honestly want to deny giving someone an extra few dollars? Tourist dollars are low now, and food prices are going up. I love Ghana!
Rick, thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment champ. Never want to deny someone a few extra dollars, especially if they deserve it. However, learning the basics of currency exchange and negotiating are vital to those traveling for the first time. I love Ghana as well, thanks so much 4 your support!
The seller joked and laughed with you because they ripped you off. LOL! Slashing the price in half method is exactly what my Ghanaian husband uses when bartering prices. I am all for people making business/sells but definitely not by ripping people off. Once you peruse the market and you get what the average rate is for particular items, you know what price range to work with when bartering. Some sellers will drain you dry and won't think twice about it while you are out of money.
@@CI3306 Hi. You're right I guess. He ripped me off for four or five dollars. It's okay. Maybe this year I'll bargain the sellers down more. But whether I do or don't, I'm sure I'll still feel that connection. I still love Ghana.
@Rick Bunte I actually agree with you. A lot of these places rely heavily on tourism. I make it a point to shop at local markets, and I don't haggle prices either. I pay what they ask gladly and don't mind if I'm not charged the same as the locals because nine times out of ten, I'm in a better financial position as the locals being a tourist.
@@latoyascott1147 waw that’s a really nice way to analyze the situation. I usually add a few extra dollars to the road side hawkers. They go through so much yet remain positive and strong. But yes your right tourist are sometimes in a better financial position than the citizens so not be kind. Usually if you ask for a discount they’ll give you a discount as well.

Ghana maybe time is so accurate. You gotta appreciate the culture's lax approach to timings. People stop and do things on the way and see friends and will stop and chat. They don't do it because they don't respect you but because that is just their way of life. I remember being in a bar with my local friend and a guy on his way to perform errands saw us and he stopped and had a drink and a chat for 30 mins with us. Lol. You better visit soon and make sure your money is actually benefiting this precious child. Unfortunately, there are MANY scams attached to this "sponsor" business....Its's pretty disgusting....even most of the missionaries are crooks....Dont believe me? Research it.
This is exactly what you would do in Thailand for example. This is not about denying someone a few extra bucks. It is about realistic prices compared tp average monthly income in that country. I have been many times in The Gambia where the average salary is about 60 EUR which is around 4000 Dalasi. So if a cab driver asks for 400 Dalasi fora just one 10 minute ride, this is obviously way off. (locals would pay around 100) but often take a shared taxi for 35 Dalasi).

All great points and applicable to all of Africa. For example greetings is super important in African cultures cause we believe as humans you acknowledge the next human.
The same in Philippines, rural areas you have to stop and ask where a person address is. Usually extended family in town can tell you the address. Not like US where you have a street and house number and you know exactly where you are going.
I love you guys, can y’all also talk about Accra traffic? And it’s will be nice if y’all can do Q&A on your own time. Although I am living in Frankfurt Germany 🇩🇪 but I am enjoying your videos and lastly try and go to country side see the sense of community there

My name is H. Richard Dozier, I currently reside in the Houston, TX area. I will be visiting Ghana in August for 33 days. My Ghanaians friends here and in Ghana are so excited about my visit. I hope to see you when I arrive.
About the greetings part, Ghanaians always start with good morning/afternoon/evening, not even with how are you. Hello and hi, are NOT DONE. I'm surprised you didn't address that. Also you could have mentioned to not hand over or take anything with your left hand. Ghanaians consider that to be very inpolite.
Very useful. I lived for a year in Ghana 32 years ago, pre-internet, pre-ATM. I'm about to go back in a few days and looking for how to navigate it in the 21st century.
Hey great topic and well shot video. One thing--the music is way too loud relative to the voices, so it was distracting and hard to hear you guys. Still gave it a thumbs up though.

The video is old but given valuable information. I'm planning for Ghana this Christmas 2024. I was looking for tips because it would be my first time. Your tips are very helpful. Thank you ❤
Great exposition. Greetings definitely important. I'm Ghanian. GMT ew call it Ghana man time. Everything you said about it is true. I don't entirely agree with the negotiations. I know most times prices are raised because you are a foreigner but sometimes people are truthful so dividing a price into half may be taken as an insult.
Jemima thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!! Happy you enjoyed the video and found value in it. This episode was created to spread knowledge and awareness, its ok to agree to disagree. Only positive vibes here 🙏🏽
Yo Caes !! The things we have on a day to day basis we def take 4 granted at times in the States! Having unlimited wifi is everything until you dont have it. The country has so many beautiful parts about it, have more to show bro, u already know the vibes! thanks homie 💯
I support Ghana and their anti LGBTQ agenda. As a Christian from the U.S., I applaud them. Also, great music in the background. Im a guitarist and tempting to play it. The video is nicely done, great job guys.
Ghana maybe time is taken to an extreme when it comes to doing business. It's really hard to make progress when the timing of transactions is so loose. That could explain why a lot of projects, including public infrastructure, don't get finished.
I love your video you are collaborating very well . Each of you know when to come in when one is making a point, without disrupting too much the speech of the other person. Great work done guys

All great points and applicable to all of Africa. For example greetings is super important in African cultures cause we believe as humans you acknowledge the next human.
100% my friend, i agree! Thanks for your support, so many more helpful Africa videos here on the channel, make sure to check them out! 😎
Clove oil is good for mosquito too and the coil is not healthy to inhale. Great tips.❤
Hey Heather! Thank you for your support family 💖
Ghanaians and our “please”!
Yes please lol .. thx 4 watchin friend!
I just met a handsome man from Ghana. He's so masculine and a real gentleman.
I will visit Ghana June 2022. I started my fund recently.
Ohhh nice Paul!! I'm excited 4 u bro its gonna be an amazing time! Will u be going to Accra?
Paul. Me too!! Safe travels
July 2022.
Thanks!
Thank you my sister for your support! It really helps to keep creating fun & informative content 🥰 🙏🏽
Thanks for sharing. I will be in Ghana late December 2021. I'm so excited😊
You're going to have an AMAZING time! Hope that the collection of videos help you out a bit during ur travels!! Hope 2 c u back soon!!
You sure are welcome.. Take your time to take it all in.. Don't hesitate to ask questions
Although I am living in Frankfurt Germany 🇩🇪 but I am enjoying your videos and lastly try and go to country side see the sense of community there
Stephen what's up my brother !! Appreciate you for taking the time to support and connect with us 💯 Your feedback is 🔥 & needed !! Ok i'll take a few of your points and create some content around them. We certainly have some videos outside of the city coming real soon !! Again, thanks fam, talk to you soon! 🔥🇬🇭🔥
My name is H. Richard Dozier, I currently reside in the Houston, TX area. I will be visiting Ghana in August for 33 days. My Ghanaians friends here and in Ghana are so excited about my visit. I hope to see you when I arrive.
Hello Dr. Dozier! Thanks for stopping by the channel, did you arrive to Ghana yet?
@@KelsAcosta I spent the month of August in Ghana. I look forward to returning.
Thanks for watching Romana!
Very useful. I lived for a year in Ghana 32 years ago, pre-internet, pre-ATM. I'm about to go back in a few days and looking for how to navigate it in the 21st century.
Wow Jack that sounds like an amazing experience about to unfold! Thx 4 sharing with me 🤟🏽 lmk how ur trip goes!
Hey great topic and well shot video. One thing--the music is way too loud relative to the voices, so it was distracting and hard to hear you guys. Still gave it a thumbs up though.
Akamatsu appreciate you 4 watchin brother!! Which points were challenging to hear? I can certainly fill you in if need be. Thanks 4 the feedback and 4 your support 🙏🏽💯
Thank you so much for this video 🎉🎉 I will be in Ghana next month.
Eucalyptus and lemon spray for mosquitoes

We cant wait to welcome u back family ❤💛💚 we're takin good care of it 4 u 😎🙏🏽
Amen.
Only positive vibes here 🙏🏽
I'm going for the first time so excited
Hope you have an amazing time, let me know how it goes friend! ✈️
Ghana 🇬🇭 is beautiful place I really appreciate the share I would’ve Never knew
Yo Caes !! The things we have on a day to day basis we def take 4 granted at times in the States! Having unlimited wifi is everything until you dont have it. The country has so many beautiful parts about it, have more to show bro, u already know the vibes! thanks homie 💯
It is really a beautiful place. Representing ✌🏽
Good people as well it seems.
Great video and thanks for the tips...really helpful. One thing... the music was at a volume that was in competition with you voice.
Thanks for dropping a valuable comment friend!
I support Ghana and their anti LGBTQ agenda. As a Christian from the U.S., I applaud them. Also, great music in the background. Im a guitarist and tempting to play it. The video is nicely done, great job guys.
Thanks Ryan for sharing your thoughts! Glad you enjoy the music as well, it certainly gives the video a lil more life to it!
They are just like my people in Grenada - moving to the US was a culture shock for me when ppl did not greet each other with a good morning etc.
Where in the US do you live now?
Ghana maybe time is taken to an extreme when it comes to doing business. It's really hard to make progress when the timing of transactions is so loose. That could explain why a lot of projects, including public infrastructure, don't get finished.
That's a very interesting point my friend, thanks for adding value with your comment!
15/7/23 Shabbat Shalom you 2 great video very informative Thanks Peace👍
Shalom my friend, thank you for being here!
I love your video you are collaborating very well . Each of you know when to come in when one is making a point, without disrupting too much the speech of the other person. Great work done guys

Sounds like CP time. I guess nice to know we inherited this timing style 🥰
That part lol
Going to Ghana in December, God willing! I would definitely add onto your Wi-Fi tip using a VPN for enhanced security.
Hey James thanks so much 4 watching my friend! I pray that you have a safe and amazing trip! Yes Vpn's always come in handy, good one !!
You're welcome in advance
Use natural bug repellents. They work better than anything store bought.
That part !!
More Americans need to see this video
We def agree queen lol .. glad you enjoyed the video and got some value from it! Hope to see u back on the channel soon!

Citronella and eucalyptus plants work the best.
Thanks for the tips my brother, thanks for being here!
The politeness is in every culture it's just that people don't do it it all depends on how you were raised
That part 🎯
I love your negotiating skills. That is really true.
Experience is the best teacher! Thank you for your support my friend 💯
Greetings, please and thank are very important. It doesn’t matter if you give us the world. You got to do these 3 else it means you don’t respect us. Good tips 👌🏽
I'm all about the greetings, so that was an easy adjustment for me !! Luv 2 connect with ppl at all times! Thx 4 some of these tips friend 😎🙏🏽
Takoradi in Ghana is the new hub, 2022! Travel to Ghana during Christmas or any other time to Takoradi which is in the Western part of Ghana, and you're gonna feel the vibez!!!!...no long talk!

Yes yes yes !!! WiFi and Mosquitoes, wish you guys posted this two days ago. These mosquitoes definitely greeted me with a brutal Akwaaba to my back and arms. Great video guys!!
Loretta whats up 😂 so the mosquitoes got to you already huh, oh nooo !! trust me i had my fair share of "where did all these bites come from" moments !! U have to grab some Rosemary oil like the one in the video and some coils while your at it too !! How was your flight and everything, did you fly Royal Air Maroc?
@@KelsAcosta it was actually this hotel I stayed in, after complaining enough times they finally sprayed the room. Aside from the mosquitoes I really enjoyed my time here.
Mosquitos goes with the weather the cannot survive in cold weather
