i use both U2723qe and S2722qc. Both are from DELL, both are 4k and 27". I am using them with a Macbook and a scaled resolution (to gain more pixels per character or icon, like in the menu bar, and to have a font size of the macos controls matching the macbook 13" display). I can tell that the panel of the ultrasharp is a notch better and comes closer to the retina display of the macbook. If affordable i would always choose the U27 over the S27. I was considering the 32" U3223qe. I did not choose that one especially for the very reason others prefer 32": using native resolution without scaling. Why? When you switch display settings to the resolution on the right end of the dial in system settings, you will NOT get a HiDPI resolution with a 4K display! Meaning, all fonts and icons will be rendered with less pixel when you want that maximum of real estate. Thanks for your video!
I just purchased this from B&H. It is perfect. The USB hub is more useful than I imagined and completely cut down on cable uses on my desk. The stand is perfect if you want to have your monitor lower as well. It will even hide the Dell logo when lowered. Thanks for your video, it saved me over $1000 and I feel like I got way more for my money. Cheers
Was eyeing on U2723QE but Dell is selling it at ~$950USD in my country. In the end I bought LG 27UP850 because it only cost less than half the price of 2723QE at about $370USD. Been using the LG monitor for a month and so far I have no complaint, bright display great colors, but on screen manu is not really customizable and On Screen Control software doesn't work on Apple Silicon.
For everyone like me who needs 16:10, DELL offers U3023E - 2560 x 1600, matte, and a lot of ports Ideal for programming! It is basically the Only One model on the market now that offers a 16:10 aspect ratio in 30 inches and if you don't care for 4k is a perfect choice!
I have two of these hooked up to a MacMini M1 and a ThinkPad, and it works great. Dell Display Manager (when it works for Mac) is great to create Hotkeys and switch inputs without touching the monitor. These have been amazing so far in my nearly one year with them.
I think it's worth mentioning - for those seeing just 1 USB-C cable connecting to the Macbook or just another laptop. Safe to say that if you want the same thing you'd a Thunderbolt 3 port at least on your laptop.
this might be a dumb question but is the USB-C cable he is using to charge his laptop and display on the monitor a usb-c to usb-c or usb-c to HDMI or usb-c to DP?
@@Crystallee0504 can't say what he uses exactly, but with the right connectivity in this case a thunderbolt port on the laptop, you can use a usbc to usbc thunderbolt cable to charge, display and access data on your device via the monitor.
Running two of the 32 inchers off a M1 Mac Studio and it's been a great experience so far. Color accuracy and gamut are critical for me as I'm a photographer -- it's honestly been fine. If I needed full Adobe RGB accuracy I'd look elsewhere, but for what I do they are fully sufficient.Very pleased with them.
I’ve been using the 32” version and it’s awesome. How come you didn’t go over the Dell display manager for the KVM? It enables keyboard shortcuts for the KVM so you don’t have to reach behind the monitor.
I just sold this for the Cooler Master Tempest.... it's actually even better. Maybe not quite as stylish (close), but amazing connectivity and 4k @ 144hz with freesync. Colours and HDR is mindblowing too. This Dell is great... but I'm just offering up an alternative here.
that is good to know. thank you for mentioning that. very informative for a person who is thinking to buy this monitor. i think another ethernet cable goes for pc in my case
Picked one up a few weeks ago. Coming from a QHD monitor is daylight. Just keep in mind if you only have Thunderbolt 3 ports on your Mac (Intel I believe), you only get USB 2.0 speeds due to TB3 supporting Display Port 1.2 only.
Hi, oh I own a Macbook Pro intel (2020) with TB 3. what does this means, would the resolution of this external monitor drop? Thanks 😓 -- ** hmm btw I just checked Apple website it says my MBP has Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40Gb/s), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s) -- Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and: - One external 5K display with 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors, or - Up to two external 4K displays with 4096-by-2304 resolution at 60Hz at millions of colors. I'm not sure what kind of monitor can suit my MBP? Help
As a Software Developer who stares at code all day aka text, the scaling is a big deal for me. I don't understand why more manufactures don't make 27" 5k monitors Samsung announced their 27" ViewFinity S9 which looks like a Studio Display clone and I can't wait to see what the price is and how it compares
I bought one last year for my work set up and love it! Have to admit I don’t often plug my MacBook into it because I mostly use that on the sofa, but when I have used it with this monitor the picture is awesome!
The CalDigit dock you showed in the video is a ThunderBolt dock, not USB-C, just to be clear. Very nice video. And the monitor looks. pretty sweet. I had a similar 34" Dell ultrawide and it was very nice.
I bought the 27" QE last year, but sent it back, since it's scaled at 1080p by default on a Mac (which is ridiculous nowadays), or way too small - unless you're born with eagle eyes. The 32" model is much more enjoyable on native 4K with MacOS. Only the menubar and System Preferences are hard to read. Everything else is scalable and crisp enough (around 140DPI). The 32" stand is also sturdier. I ended up buying a U2722DE as a secondary display, since they share the same design, to replace a 2012 1440p 27" Ultrasharp, which still works.
Hopefully I did not listen to those bullshit comments regarding the scaling issue with a 27inch 4K monitor. Using a 2560x1440 resolution is perfectly fine, the text is super sharp and the monitor quality incredible for this price range.
I also have 2 of them in use with an MDS19 holder from Dell. The features are very good, even 10 Gbps/Lan, and I save myself a Thunderbolt dock, which either costs as much as a U2723QE or annoys with high-frequency beeping. I only have 3 small criticisms: - no speaker (somewhat bad ones are enough for system sounds and the occasional YT video), but that doesn't bother me, as I output the sound via the MacBook and switch to the Homepod when necessary - the included stand is stable, but depending on the desk, vibrations are amplified too much - it reflects a bit strongly for a matte display, especially on dark surfaces / dark mode I previously had the cheaper S2722QC but the U2723QE was worth the extra cost!
Thanks for making this video! Built in KVM is exactly what I could use right now. I might just get me one of these. I'll make sure to remember to use your link :)
it also comes with Dell software on MacOS + Windows so you can adjust brightness and switch monitors without touching the actual hardware buttons. Love it!
this is exactly the problem I faced. You keep buying products similar to Apple’s, trying to save some cash, and you do it again and again. But at the end of the day, you’re still missing something, and you’ve ended up wasting a lot more money instead of just buying the Apple Studio Display, for example.
Is there a monitor with similar features for mac (usb c, kvm switch, 4k), but with higher refresh rate? I got used to higher refresh rate and now cant stand 60hz
Finally this great display is getting some love. I purchased the 32 inch version of this several months back and I have been really enjoying it. At the time I was shopping, I had so much trouble finding information and comparisons including this series of monitors. I can firmly recommend the U3223QE for using with a Mac Studio.
This monitor is genuinely amazing for productivity type work. I was looking for a monitor that doesn’t have text grain when set up next to my Mac and this is it. Resolution between Retina display and this now is barely noticeable to me when switching back and forth. It isn’t for gaming definitely but the 60hz is not noticeable either for daily productivity or regular work. I’ve had it for 3 years and I won’t be upgrading anytime soon.
Mhm, the biggest thing that bothers me is the IPS panel and fake black. weren't there some mini LED and OLED screens with 120hz up and 1000 nits up that were shown at CES? I can't wait until we see more of them in the 27 to 32 inch range. Use the predecessor to the Dell in your review as a work monitor and yes, as you say, is ok, for home use and here work and entertainment I would prefer true color worlds, true blacks and better refresh rates over a HUB. And I have hoped we will finally see more in this field. For me, colors and contrast are the highest values for consuming or looking at anything in the web, of course with fast timings and hopefully in the future with fast refresh rates and high nits(by still staying color accurate). But it’s not getting cheaper if we still think that IPS Black or TN Panels are still enough.
I have to say that for Mac users, it's nice that there are several options with the screen size of 27 or 32in. What I now want to see companies do is make monitors that can fit tighter workspaces. I.e., I'm currently using a 23.8 in. QHD monitor by Lenovo. For what I'm doing with my MacBook Air, it's perfect. Got a 75hz refresh rate, connects via USB-C, but it's got an HDMI port (for my Switch), and a DisplayPort (for my PC). And two USB-A ports (I have a light bar, and a Lightning cable connected). If it had a 144hz refresh rate, it'd be a perfect monitor.
Have you experienced the monitor going into standby mode when the Mac is asleep but keeps scanning for inputs every few minutes? If so, is there a way to change that?
Hey G'Day, I have the same setup right now (fresh new MBP 14 Inch M2 Pro and Dell U3223QE connected through USB-C to USB-C), wondering did you experience any random flickering when you're in clamshell mode (closed lid) ? I just suspect about the cable that shipped with the monitor and considering try a Thunderbolt cable similar to your setup now.
Price is one thing. But one should remind themselves about longevity. I bought the U2711 back in 2011 (or 2012?). I still use it as my secondary minitor today. It has lost brightness and color accuracy, but is okay as a secondary screen. And that one was 700 eur back then. Getting this Modern one for 500 eur is a steal. I am aiming to get the U3223QE during black friday this year.
I went for the similar 1440 version of this, the U2722DE, and I’ve been quite pleased. It’s plenty of crisp without the scaling. I am glad that Samsung is releasing a 5k 27” to get us Mac users a true retina resolution.
It is better for Windows users to stick with 1440p on 27 inch, because 4K on 27 inch will need scaling which has caused so many issues with blurry elements on screen in the past.
@@pkennethv I'm just saying that because I've tested this display on m1 Macs, I haven't seen it with intel macs for example, so maybe with those the display looks fine. On my display, 27 inch 1440p, my M1 MacBook has the letters blurry and it's kind of difficult to read. Apparently, this display does not meet the standards for the retina Mac requirements, so it just does not work. On the other hand, windows looks fine on this display, because they use the ClearType software that modifies the font a little bit so it does not look blurry. So, either you go with Mac, that respects the fonts exactly for appearance reasons and does not display correctly on this display, or you go with windows, that modifies the font slightly to support many screen resolutions and sizes, but is not truthful to the real font.
All I can say is, wow. The display is really eye-catching and 3D-like given the clarity, connected to Mac Mini and Mac Studio. Even though they were probably the base model in the Apple Store, the M1 chip and M2 chip are so fast. Lightning fast, could say. Wireless trackpad so smooth and enough space to move your hand around, and here I thought using a regular mouse was great, but trackpad even better. So much more 'finger-real' estate. Such cutting-edge technology, even the Apple Watch, one of the most amazing tiny pieces of tech today. Robots may be a different arena but they sure cost a lot. I don't consider Apple products too expensive anymore, in that the price point seems more fair than say in 2007. For some reason maybe because of the large area of the Apple Store the Apple Display is so thin with narrow bezel and vibrant it seems larger than how it may be in a small room. It looks so much like the new iMac. I would give the 2022 (or 2023) Apple Display 10 out of 10, one of the best displays I ever saw. Much like those Sharp Aquos displays that cost thousands, some of the sharpest and clearest display technology that really looks great in the not-so-gorgeous concrete and steel interior of a warehouse-style retailer.
I just ordered on of these to pair with my new M3 Pro MacBook Pro. The other monitors I considered included: Samsung M8, LG Ultrafine 4K Ergo monitors (27" and 32" models), Alogic Clarity... The Alogic Clarity seems to have the best display, but it is more expensive, and I'm not going to be doing photo editing or video work. I already have a 32" LG display in another room, and find it to be slightly too large on my standing desk. The desk that I am buying this new monitor for is slightly smaller, so I definitely wanted a 27" monitor this time. But what won me over to the Dell U2723QE model was the hub. Specifically, the ethernet port is a great addition. (Why don't all these other models have ethernet ports?) These days, many people buying these monitors will be using them with laptops, so having a one-cable, USB-C (to the laptop) solution seems perfect.
How does it compare against the LG Ultrafine 4K? I dont care about gaming, just design work and research. Possibly some video work from time to time. Which is better value?
I think it pays to wait for the 5K Samsung viewfinity S9. HDR600 - covers 99 percent of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut. It can charge laptops at up to 96 watts. Bonus Tizen TV OS. Built-in color calibration. And a screen stand that doesn't dance.
What cable are you using to connect video and power to a MacBook? I am trying to use this monitor with my new MacBook Pro and the USB-c to USB-c cable provided power but no video and the usb-c to display port cable provided video but no power. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I bought the 2022 version of this monitor and the plastic menu button/stick on the back of the monitor broke and there's no way to fix it or order a replacement. There's no way to control the menu without this menu button and dell won't cover this under warranty.
I want this, but at 120hz. Why doesn’t that exist.. as soon as you want a higher refresh rate you enter the gaming marked which isn’t always color accurate and doesn’t have usb-c passtrough. I do motion graphics and new media arts and just want my screen to feel as natural as possible
@ it does indeed 😁. I plug in one usb-c port from the monitor into my MacBook (m1 pro) and I have a 4K 120hz screen, my whole setup is connected trough the usb hub in the monitor and my MacBook is charging. Love that 😁
I have 2 of the 27 inch monitors, they’re great and I run them with my 2019 Mac book pro 16 inch. Only problem is Mac’s are horrible at cooling so I’m looking for solutions to keep the temperature down on my Mac when running both monitors
I'm currently trying to decide whether to get this one or the Benq PD3205u for my single monitor desktop setup (mac mini m1). After all it's a 32" 4k display. Mainly for office / programming with occasional PS5 adventure gaming. Any suggestions? Thanks
Great review. After watching this video, I think I may actually get this to replace an older Dell 2407 WFOHC monitor that I'm still using. I've been very happy with my old Dell monitor so why not try another.
Can you confirm: I have a Macbook Pro 2021 M1 and am wanting to set up two monitos. Can I use the monitors when laptop is closed. Do I need any extra hardware such as a router/dock? Do you see any issues?
Hello. I'm considering purchasing the LG UltraWide 34WQ75C to use with my Mac Studio. Could you please share your thoughts and recommendations on this? Do you think it's a good choice?
60hz doesn't cut it anymore. There's a growing market of WFH people who by day are designers / developers / pm's / whatever and gamers by night. At home usually these two functions are performed at the same location. Just give us already a 32" 4k 144hz monitor with wide connectivity and colors. Why does it have to be either or?
That’s why I was considering the LG C3 42” tv but I’m certain the text clarity would be f***ed. There really needs to be better options for Macs without spending $1600.
Have been running two 32” of these with a M1 Mac Mini. Recently opted to downgrade to only 1 with a new MacBook Pro 14 Pro. Been using Dell screens for over a decade now. Cannot fathom ever switching. Good job mate. Your set up is so similar to me. 😂
How would you compare its display to the retina xdr display of Macbook Pro 14 inch? I wanna buy but I am worried it will look washed out in comparison and I will end up regretting purchase. Do you think its close to how Macbook's screen look?
Stick to your 5k monitor, the closest you will get to a retina experience. This monitor it’s pretty good for the connectivity and image quality, but yours it’s better with Mac OS scaling
I keep my 14tb of disk backups and 4tb of external SSD's hooked to mine, with velcro on the back for the ssd's. Takes two second to plug them in or grab them to go to a shoot, and you never see them or any cables. Pretty great plugin in just one cable, and the daisychaining feature looks pretty cool if you want a dual monitor setup.
I have a similar setup but, unfortunately, slightly different, and I can't get the KVM to work. I connect a Windows laptop via USB-C and then the Mac Mini via HDMI and USB-C/USB-A. Unfortunately, this configuration doesn't work on the Mac: when I'm using the laptop, the mouse and keyboard are recognized by the monitor, but when I'm using the Mac, this doesn't happen. any suggestions?
I had 2 replacements with the U3223QE inch monitor and it keeps flickering on a specific dark color every time! I have tried different cables, talked with dell, and everything. The flickering even persisted when there was nothing connected. I want to love it, but the flickering completely destroy my experience.
I have this same issue with my 32" Dell 4k monitor. It is one of the S series, but same problem, when a large part of the screen is dark, particularly if it's a browser image, it flickers. I can minimize the window and bring it right back up and it stops, but it's pretty annoying. I've gotten use to dealing with it by not using dark mode and it is a more rare occurrence now, but it's definitely a wider panel issue with Dell and not just the U series monitors. Also, it has only happened with both my MacBook Pro and Mac mini. It's never happened when connected to a PC, so for me at least it's also a Dell/Apple issue.
I am currently buying my first external monitor for my macbook pro 16 inch. I really need your help. I am having difficulties between this model and the pd3205 that you also reviewed. What would you recommend, this one has more brightness and twice the contrast but it's 25 inch compared to 32 that for me is a big deal. Or maybe i should save up even more money and wait until i can afford the dell ultrasharp but in the 32 inch size. Could you help pleaseeeeeeeee
In my country (Italy) is way pricier than the benq. The larger UltraSharp is like 880 dollars and the benq is 600. I just ordered the benq on amazon. I will test it out and see how I find it, I can still return it. The main downsides are the brightness and the contrast that are both way looower on the benq than the dell. I will see if i note it tho. Thanks for the response@@CreatedTech
If you’re using an Apple device, you should get a 5k monitor or something with 2560px width. Otherwise you’ll have to scale the resolution and this will affect the performance of you computer
I saw your TH-cam video on this monitor and how you connected it to your MacBook. At present I have a Samsung ultra wide 43 inch monitor and I keep an old dell 27 inch monitor in portrait mode on the side. I got my new M2 MacBook Air today and I connect both via a dock it seems I am not getting the option to rotate the smaller dell monitor because it might not be compatible with macOS for rotation, please tell me if you feel I can do that with U2723QE so I can decide to buy it. My work requires two monitors so I want to use my Samsung ultra wide monitor as my main monitor and then this dell U2723QE as my second monitor but it will always remain in portrait mode connected to my Windows PC and also my M2 MacBook Air with the latest macOS, based on your knowledge please let me know if you think this setup will work. Thanks
I'm using MacBook Pro 14" with M1 Pro, any of you have idea whether I can connect 2 monitors in DSC using this laptop? And what ports to use for this config?
Great vid! I just got 2 for my home office. I also have a studio display and when they are side by side the colours on the Dell are defiantly dulled by the anti-glare coating. Any recommendations on the best colour settings/profile to be as similar to a studio display using an Macbook pro m1?
Funny because I noticed the scaling is only on the new MacOS because Monterey doesn't do this on the 1440 or 4k monitors, I had to fresh install a rollback to Monterey to fix my scaling
I don’t understand why people keep recommending Dell monitors for Mac? Sure you can plug it into your MacBook and the monitor will work, but there is zero support for when you need to update the drivers. Dell fails to mention this apparently, and IMO needs to be more transparent about it.
In case you need a monitor for MacBook and gaming, take a look at the M28U ~$500 4K 144hz (with great response time) 15W type-c (so unfortunately you would have to connect the the charger) 2 HDMIs 2.1 DP
Um, the difference between 4K and 5K is the difference between 8.3 million pixels (4K) and 14.7 million pixels (5K), which is about 77% more... a huge difference in terms of crispness, especially for anyone doing any sort of graphic work. Also the Apple Studio Display is 'wide gamut' DCI-P3 coverage (i.e. 99%+) and a 10-bit color depth. The real problems with the Apple Studio Display (and I own one) is that the panel is essentially an updated version of the 2019 27" iMac 27" screen; with 100 nits more brightness. In 2022 / 2023, for $1600, Apple should be offering a 27" mini LED display with HDR and running at 120 hz... yes, that really is maxing out the thunderbolt 4's bandwidth (and would be Lossy Compression like the XDR display), but it would be the 'right monitor' to offer. The rumor is that Apple will come out with a 27' 5K mini LED display sometime in the future, but you can bet that it will likely be slotted in-between the two current monitors, and cost $3000.
Im currently looking at monitors and am stuck at a crossroads between 27 inch 1440p vs 4K. If I understand correctly for 1440p I can choose to use the default monitor resolution since it is close to 110ppi. Wondering what scaling are you using for this monitor as I heard the default is virtual 1080p for 4k monitor but the icons in your video don't look overblownly big like what I was expecting.
Hi, I heard for demanding tasks the power delivery through monitor would not be sufficient for a Macbook 16 m1 pro... I have a legion y32p-30 which has 75w, is it true?
Hi, is it possible to watch DRM protected UHD contents such as Netflix UHD movies on your PC? I have the same monitor but I've never been able to watch 4K UHD movies. Fire TV 4K Max works fine, but the monitor doesn't work with a PC using a proper HDMI or DP cable and graphics cards over a 600Mpbs high-speed network connection.
I need this to switch between my pc and my MacBook! I’ve been switching keyboards off my desk everyday for the past couple years 🤦🏽♂️ this is a god teir monitor
I have this monitor. i find the placement of the connections on the bottom of the monitor to be extremely annoying. Really wish they were on the back of the monitor instead. I agree that the hole in the stand for the cables to pass through is too low, but I am using a vesa arm so that's no longer an issue for me. One other annoyance is that the Dell Display Driver software seems to constantly have updates (good that it's being updated, but annoying to install updates weekly). Other than that, it's a good monitor.
I’m looking around for a 32” monitor. I was wondering if I could get some advice on whether to purchase the 32” version of this monitor, or, the BenQ PD3220u? Thanks
In one of your videos you said you've been using Ultrasharp monitors for a while. Well I have a 16" M1 Pro which I want to pair with a U2722D (I believe is 2K version of this monitor) Do you recommend that setup? I'm video editor but 27" 4K all icons are too small for me and I've been using iMac for a while, so I think 2K is the way to go, just not sure about scaling and colors
You can scale macOS on 4K monitors to make the icons and UI larger and easier to see. 2K will work fine but if you're coming from an iMac retina screen, you will notice a big difference with the vastly decreased pixel density of the 2K screen.
I'm still rocking a 27" Thunderbolt Display with my M1 Pro MBP. I think I'm just gonna wait and save for a Studio Display whenever i'm ready to upgrade.

I love that they left the bezels thin and with no branding, my favorite feature probably. Cool review and setup!
i use both U2723qe and S2722qc. Both are from DELL, both are 4k and 27". I am using them with a Macbook and a scaled resolution (to gain more pixels per character or icon, like in the menu bar, and to have a font size of the macos controls matching the macbook 13" display).

Are you able to get 60Hz when you connect your Macbook to the usb-c port? I only get 60hz when I connect to DP or HDMI
i am currently trying to choose between these three laptops, thank you for you insight
Thank uuuu
I have two of these hooked up to a MacMini M1 and a ThinkPad, and it works great. Dell Display Manager (when it works for Mac) is great to create Hotkeys and switch inputs without touching the monitor. These have been amazing so far in my nearly one year with them.
for mac try Raycast, it has everything you need manage windows
The monitor has a built-in dock station then you can switch the thunderbolt C cable to any laptop or PC right away.
Thank you for confirming the color accuracy is acceptable for photo work. Appreciate it!
are you running them daisy chained?

what about the washed up contrrast, the lack of deep black(compared to the Studio Display anyway), the lower brightness, the materials?

I’ve been using the 32” version and it’s awesome. How come you didn’t go over the Dell display manager for the KVM? It enables keyboard shortcuts for the KVM so you don’t have to reach behind the monitor.
oh that sound amazing! can you explain a little bit more?
I just sold this for the Cooler Master Tempest.... it's actually even better. Maybe not quite as stylish (close), but amazing connectivity and 4k @ 144hz with freesync. Colours and HDR is mindblowing too. This Dell is great... but I'm just offering up an alternative here.
I use the 32" model. Love it. I do wish the ethernet port would somehow split between the devices instead of disconnecting the other device.
Oh that's good to know, thanks. I imagine it's a bit annoying if you have a download or a service running.
@@mittamoa Exactly how I discovered that. But overall, love this display. Especially after Dell discounts.
that is good to know. thank you for mentioning that. very informative for a person who is thinking to buy this monitor. i think another ethernet cable goes for pc in my case
Thanks 😓 -- ** hmm btw I just checked Apple website it says my MBP has Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40Gb/s), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s) -- Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display at millions of colors and:
- One external 5K display with 5120-by-2880 resolution at 60Hz at over a billion colors, or
- Up to two external 4K displays with 4096-by-2304 resolution at 60Hz at millions of colors.
I'm not sure what kind of monitor can suit my MBP? Help
Lol. “Studio display is better in build quality, display, speakers and camera. But that’s pretty much it”.
Yep, that’s ALL of it 🙃
Except for the cost, agree.
As a Software Developer who stares at code all day aka text, the scaling is a big deal for me. I don't understand why more manufactures don't make 27" 5k monitors
Samsung announced their 27" ViewFinity S9 which looks like a Studio Display clone and I can't wait to see what the price is and how it compares
Right there with you; I am glad CES showed a couple more options with HDMI. I can finally connect a console lol. Only wish they where glossy!
@@seanb7443 curious if after market companies will end up offering a glass replacement 😂
Having proper retina displays coming is great. Basically everything else isn't worth looking at.
Have any other 27" 5k monitors been announced? Seems impossible to find a reasonably priced monitor that even gets close to my Macbook
@@sean9672 besides the Samsung one? Don’t think so. We ll just have to hope this Samsung ViewFinity S9 is legit
I bought one last year for my work set up and love it! Have to admit I don’t often plug my MacBook into it because I mostly use that on the sofa, but when I have used it with this monitor the picture is awesome!
Just ordered one today, this video is still helpful a year later so thank you!
The CalDigit dock you showed in the video is a ThunderBolt dock, not USB-C, just to be clear. Very nice video. And the monitor looks. pretty sweet. I had a similar 34" Dell ultrawide and it was very nice.
The LG UltraFine 24" 4k monitors are also an option and fantastic.
I only have 3 small criticisms:
- no speaker (somewhat bad ones are enough for system sounds and the occasional YT video), but that doesn't bother me, as I output the sound via the MacBook and switch to the Homepod when necessary
- the included stand is stable, but depending on the desk, vibrations are amplified too much
- it reflects a bit strongly for a matte display, especially on dark surfaces / dark mode
I previously had the cheaper S2722QC but the U2723QE was worth the extra cost!
1:45
Bro that bump on the macbook got me crying..
it shows the usage, it's a work horse, it get's worked with
Thanks for making this video! Built in KVM is exactly what I could use right now. I might just get me one of these. I'll make sure to remember to use your link :)
it also comes with Dell software on MacOS + Windows so you can adjust brightness and switch monitors without touching the actual hardware buttons. Love it!
I bought 2 of these to have a dual monitor setup, cost me lots of cash, but I feel relieved, satisfied and enjoying them so far!
this is exactly the problem I faced. You keep buying products similar to Apple’s, trying to save some cash, and you do it again and again. But at the end of the day, you’re still missing something, and you’ve ended up wasting a lot more money instead of just buying the Apple Studio Display, for example.
Does it only come with matte display? I cannot. Only glossy displays for me.
I've had the Ultrawide version in 2021, with 3440x1440. The connectivity is top notch and so is the picture quality in terms of colours.
I just returned the dell P3223QE because too much flickering after few hours of use with macbook pro m2. Has anyone experienced this?
Is there a monitor with similar features for mac (usb c, kvm switch, 4k), but with higher refresh rate? I got used to higher refresh rate and now cant stand 60hz
Yes, the Gigabyte M32U or M27U. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t get either one of those over the Dell that’s capped at 75hz.
Finally this great display is getting some love. I purchased the 32 inch version of this several months back and I have been really enjoying it. At the time I was shopping, I had so much trouble finding information and comparisons including this series of monitors. I can firmly recommend the U3223QE for using with a Mac Studio.
What scaling setting do you use, and how is text quality with that scaling?
He fell in the toilet
How did you manage to answer all the questions in my mind in one video? You are great!!
Wow, just got this monitor to my wife and didn't know half of the features you mentioned! awesome video! thanks a lot
It is better for Windows users to stick with 1440p on 27 inch, because 4K on 27 inch will need scaling which has caused so many issues with blurry elements on screen in the past.
awesome! Thanks for pointing out there's a 1440p version of this display!
MacOS looks awful on 1440p 27 inch displays, at least from the M1 version onwards
@@aitorperez8301 What’s different/changed with the M1 gen onward, compared to prior in the context of using them with 27” 1440p?
How many ghz it has, when you connected it to the macbook pro? 60 or 144 or 120?
(Why don't all these other models have ethernet ports?) These days, many people buying these monitors will be using them with laptops, so having a one-cable, USB-C (to the laptop) solution seems perfect.
what's your experience so far?
How does it compare against the LG Ultrafine 4K? I dont care about gaming, just design work and research. Possibly some video work from time to time. Which is better value?
I think it pays to wait for the 5K Samsung viewfinity S9. HDR600 - covers 99 percent of the DCI-P3 wide color gamut. It can charge laptops at up to 96 watts. Bonus Tizen TV OS. Built-in color calibration. And a screen stand that doesn't dance.
Just got this monitor on the boxing day sale. Much better than I expected honestly. Excellent review as always!
Can the HDR be turned off? I need to color grade in SDR without the monitor adding some stupid processing on top
There are coming 5k from Samsung and 6k from Dell which will be native for MacOS

What cable are you using to connect video and power to a MacBook? I am trying to use this monitor with my new MacBook Pro and the USB-c to USB-c cable provided power but no video and the usb-c to display port cable provided video but no power. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi Matthew, how did you solve this? I'm wondering if I need to buy an specific cable to connect this monitor to my MacBook Pro M3

How is the text clarity?
Is it better than LG? I use LG Ultrafine 5K for Mac, it is perfect, except wobbly monitor stand (can be replaced with aftermarket VESA mount leg)
Stick to your 5k monitor, the closest you will get to a retina experience.
This monitor it’s pretty good for the connectivity and image quality, but yours it’s better with Mac OS scaling
This is a great video review! I just purchased this monitor. Thanks
As a 4k 27" monitor, how does it handle "scaling" with a MacBook?
1:46 is that a dent on the top middle lid, how? and what made you choose the M1 MBA over the M1 MBP prior to owning the 14 inch MBP
This might sound dumb, but if I connect it with a usb c doesn’t it drain the MacBook’s battery?
I had 2 replacements with the U3223QE inch monitor and it keeps flickering on a specific dark color every time! I have tried different cables, talked with dell, and everything. The flickering even persisted when there was nothing connected. I want to love it, but the flickering completely destroy my experience.
Same problem on my S2721. I'm guessing it's some sort of design defects of the display panel
Omg yes. I have the same U3223QE monitor plugged to my M1 Pro, and the flickering is making the monitor borderline impossible to use.
This! I used my brother's 4K Dell for a month, and from time to time it flickers like crazy. Wanted to love it... but it's not worth 300 bucks

I will see if i note it tho. Thanks for the response@@CreatedTech
If you’re using an Apple device, you should get a 5k monitor or something with 2560px width. Otherwise you’ll have to scale the resolution and this will affect the performance of you computer
@@marcel9568 I know, there is also the LG Ultrafine 5k, but even that isn't cheap and it's also hard to find… Classic Apple things, what can you do :(
On a 32" monitor, you could use the 4k at native resolution. The elements will be smaller, but it will give you a lot of space for productivity work
The most informative review of this monitor, thank you!
Biggest problem with that monitor, is that Daisychain two monitors don't work on MacBook Pro.
I saw your TH-cam video on this monitor and how you connected it to your MacBook. Funny because I noticed the scaling is only on the new MacOS because Monterey doesn't do this on the 1440 or 4k monitors, I had to fresh install a rollback to Monterey to fix my scaling
hi! thanks for you review. does it provide 60hz 4k via type-c (macbook pro)?
I don’t understand why people keep recommending Dell monitors for Mac? Sure you can plug it into your MacBook and the monitor will work, but there is zero support for when you need to update the drivers. Dell fails to mention this apparently, and IMO needs to be more transparent about it.

i wonder if it really will feel like an upgrade from LG27850W (Which is about 4 / 5 years old)
Compare this to BenQ PD 2725U, which one is better??
Wondering what scaling are you using for this monitor as I heard the default is virtual 1080p for 4k monitor but the icons in your video don't look overblownly big like what I was expecting.
which did u choose in the end?
Pls tell us what you chose, Im in the same position. And apparently QHD version U2724D is 120hz

If you want Retina displays get 24" 4K(3840 x2160), 27" 5K(5120 × 2880)
> 24" 4K(3840 x2160)
What's the name/model?
@ for example LG 24UD58-B and Dell P2415Q
Which keyboard are you using in this video?
Can you connect a macbook air 2020 intel to this monitor? Or to any usb-c monitor? Or do I need a new macbook?
I have this monitor. i find the placement of the connections on the bottom of the monitor to be extremely annoying. Really wish they were on the back of the monitor instead. I agree that the hole in the stand for the cables to pass through is too low, but I am using a vesa arm so that's no longer an issue for me. One other annoyance is that the Dell Display Driver software seems to constantly have updates (good that it's being updated, but annoying to install updates weekly). Other than that, it's a good monitor.
Is it possible to use a non Dell-Monitoram (VESA) directly with this monitor, without an adapter-plate?
@@oliver.n278 Yes. That's what I use... a VESA monitor arm.
@@CreatedTech Thanks for this! BTW does this monitor U2723QE needs calibration? Have you addressed this in any of your videos?
@@justadropable I spent some time discussing it in this video and showing factory calibration.
I'm still rocking a 27" Thunderbolt Display with my M1 Pro MBP. I think I'm just gonna wait and save for a Studio Display whenever i'm ready to upgrade.
