I love how, a good chunk of the time, the B-roll in the background just consists of you going up and down while Duke is doing his third phase dashing attack.
The spider staff actually becomes dramatically more reliable if you use an arena with a back wall as the minions can "fly" and track enemies much closer while on a wall. Obviously this means more setup time, but it stops the build from relying almost solely on whip damage.
i usually use Queen Slime mount or normal Slime mount for the whole game just for vertical movement with wings and boots and shield (or ninja master set) and Hook of Dissonance is the best horse mounts are in my inventory when i need to go fast i just press left mouse button on the apple and brrrr
exactly, It was amazing by moving the tornadoes to the ends then going in a zig zag pattern. I did the slimey saddle before for an oval pattern because I thought the gelatanious pillion wouldn't be as great after the nerf, but I was hugely wrong. Especially in third phase where you could just jump once for the 1 and 2 dashes, then twice for the third dash. The vertical speed of this mount is amazing for that phase.
Im so thankful theres a quality video for this niche! This is very useful video for any master mode speedrunner who typically does fishron pre-mech/plantera
Personally, this is my strategy: I use gravitation potions to make the first two phases fairly easy once you figure out the strat, it's pretty stupid, I'd recommend it. All you have to do is pick a side of the beach and stay there while falling and dashing away from him constantly, occasionally dodging rams and destroying bubbles, and once he fires a sharknado bubble, go to the other side of the beach, and repeat (in phase two it's trickier, since the sharknado won't necessarily spawn near where he first fired it. Try to lure it into forming in the desired side, and be careful not to let the bubble directly hit you while you're falling in normal gravity while high up in the air- instead, either run from it until it turns into the sharknado, let it hit you while near the ground, or let it hit you while falling in reverse gravity). Be careful with the space layer, since the low gravity can interrupt your constant falling for a bit and let Duke hit you. Phase 3 I'm not sure if this is optimal but I just stop the grav pot shenanigans and ram into him with shield of cthulhu for every attack. I thought it was inconsistent at first, but turns out as long as you're moving vertically (falling seemingly doesn't work tho, since it's so fast that it can get him into a weird angle where he can hit you. I use wings to constantly fly up and glide down) while you're doing the dashes, he basically will not hit you as long as you time your dashes right. The timing can be tricky to get down so I'm not entirely sure if I'd recommend this as the best strategy, but it works for me. (I mostly used this strategy pre-buff, it might be a bit harder now since the phase 2 sharknado bubbles seem to work differently- but still, I just tested it in the current version in master mode and killed him in 3 tries with the sanguine stuff loadout, which isn't bad considering I'm rusty with this fight, and my only buffs were summoning potion, gravitation, and well fed)
It seems a little odd to mostly omit mentioning his attack patterns, even though you were clearly using them. Here it is: - For stage 1: - 5 short dashes at you - shoots bubbles at you while stationary - 5 short dashes at you - just kinda...sits there (take advantage of this however you wish), with a visual indicator of when he'll start moving again. He also releases two small-ish circular things that create sharknadoes when they hit the ground - repeats the previous 4 until he reaches his second stage - For stage 2: - 3 long dashes at you - spins around while releasing bubbles - 3 long dashes at you - again, just kind of sits there, but he releases a circular thing that homes in on you and spawns a sharknado on the ground when it reaches you, so beware - repeats the previous 4 until he dies (classic) or reaches his third stage (expert) - For stage 3 (expert only): - turns invisible, apart from his eyes - teleports behind you and dashes once at you - teleports behind you and dashes twice at you - teleports behind you and dashes thrice at you - repeats the previous 3 until he dies If you thoroughly know how he attacks, you can form strategies to take advantage of them. Really, you can kill him with absolutely no arena at all, the gelatinous pillion, the water walking potion and the potion of slow falling. With that said, here's the strategy I used to kill fishron with the aforementioned gear (as well as a few buffs), the blade staff, the firecracker, and the durendal (although you can just use the snapthorn if you're doing this fully pre-mech). Start at the very edge of the ocean. Keep going towards the beach, no matter what. Alternate between flying and running for his charges. By this, I mean jumping in the air when he's first summoned (in the sea), falling down when he starts charging at you, jumping back up when he charges at you again, and so on. If you're skilled, you can tag stack with the snapthorn and firecracker during this. When he starts shooting bubbles at you, just use the firecracker to destroy them (as whips are incredibly effective against bubbles). After that, keep going until you reach the beach. Dodge his attacks while staying mostly in the same place (use a strategy similar to that of stage three), but make sure you're close to the ground when he finishes his final charge. While he stands still, tag stack if you weren't already, which also allows you to benefit from the snapthorn's increased whip speed. Repeat until he reaches his second stage. Make sure to only put him in his second stage when he's at the edge of the ocean, as he immediately spawns two sharknadoes upon entering it. The strategy after that is somewhat different to stage one. Allow him to spawn bubbles near one edge of the ocean, then fly upwards diagonally to the other edge of the ocean, so when he spawns the circle, you're very high up - almost in space, but not quite (actually reaching space is dangerous because of the movement penalty). Then, go downwards while zigzagging to avoid his charges, letting the circle hit you when you're almost on the ocean. This should also be when he next spawns bubbles, and then the cycle repeats itself. On stage three (it doesn't really matter when he reaches it), it's...not very hard. What I would do is go _towards_ him (while going up or down accordingly) so you're as far away from him as possible when he finishes charging. This gives you much more breathing room when he turns around and charges at you again. Just remember his pattern of charges as one, two, three, repeat. Note: this strategy is heavily inspired by ningishu. Thank you ningishu for being a god at terraria.
The last time I did a pre-mech Duke, I did Melee Banarangs and Frost Armor. The Clinger Staff is good to just put down for randomly putting the cursed fire debuff on him, and destroying all bubbles. The Queen Slime mount is amazing for quick vertical movement, and helps a lot. I usually used it for the final stage. Oh, and something from a Queen Slime fight I did. If you plan on using spider summons, you can add walls in the background for them to reach the boss. That would be quite tedious tho.
featherfall potion is also a great potion to use in this fight. not only you fall slower and manipulate of taking or not, fall damage, but you can also jump higher. technically speaking if you have bundle of baloons you dont really need wings for this fight and use additional artifact slot for more damage output equipment.
Thank you so much for this guide. I finally did it for my first time with the bananarangs as the melee class after like 40 tries. luckily I got the flairon so now i can grind for the wings
May I also offer an alternative option for my more lazy player: Buy some wire and teleporters from the mechanic. Place two teleporters in the sky roughly 200-150 block apart from one another and few walls to block tornado. Wire the teleporters with pressure plates (a third one way teleporters for quick access after spawning in Duke), a hole or hoik block to shoot in the middle at Duke, and a block right above both the teleporters to warp between the two teleporters. From there is just reaction time to hit the jump button to teleport and dodge Duke while chipping away at the boss. I used this strategy to kill Duke Fishron in the getfixedboi/Zenith seed pre-mech bosses because the ocean being in space makes it impossible to fight without draining a large chunk of ocean for a massive arena. It even works in multiplayer since the boss solo target you, just single handedly kill Duke or have friends help with the only danger is the boss accidentally swiping then and tornado. Just be careful warping to main target or stepping on teleported it can mess them up
the golden shower actually helps aton for mages so deff get one of those as early as possible its a great support weapon, it reduces defense by 20 (it affects most bosses) it also can pierce multiple enemies and easy to get tbh
Tried the range setup with less potions (too lazy) and it’s actually not that hard. I recommend bringing a slimy saddle or gelatinous pillion though for faster falling just incase. On my first try I made it to the final phase, only dying because he spawned a sharknado right before the transition (his dashes in his final phase are timed near perfectly with the shield of cthulhu cooldown, so by mashing towards him you basically never get hit) which messed me up. I’ll definitely be doing this more on later playthroughs!
For expert and master mode’s third phase, duke fisheron will most of the time teleport to whatever side you are moving to, making it a bit easier to understand
okay coming from a fellow terraria YTer excellent video, beats my editing by far nice looking arena too you finally realized the power of ranger mixed set. finally someone. After nohitting expert duke with a handgun I can confirm most of the stuff here.
I feel like bringing a weapon to destroy the bubbles is also highly beneficial, especially if you only bring a single inferno potion (or, well, if you forget to bring them at all...) The Golden Shower is an obvious best choice, and whips work perfectly as is, but there are other options for melee and ranged for challenge runs. On melee, the Flying Dagger or Stippler Crippler are probably fine options, but I haven't done that yet so I don't know for sure. On ranged, funnily enough, the Hellwing Bow excells at this, and is what I personally used to beat him (granted, it was technically post-mech, but i used entirely pre-mech equipment anyways. Toxicarp too op please nerf.)
I don't see many people recommend the queen slime mount its vertical and horizontal speed can outrun the duke really easily, you can remove all the mobility accessories and go for all damage one
Id recommend an arena of 1 line across the ocean and a platform as high as your wings take you ( without double jump ) Also a medium or large world is almost essential.
My loadout is dedalus stormbuh+ichor arrows Titanium armor Magic Quiver, star veil, charm of mints, obsidian sield, SoC, Bundle of baloons and amphibian boots. It took 3 mins and 11 seconds and I was max health at the end I took 6 hits (idk if its good or bad)
theres a thing you can do with the shield of cthulhu in third phase where as long as you time the dashes right, the s from landing a charge will save you from third phase dashes because they're so fast
for me hardmode is usually an absolute breeze because I always go summoner, especially on expert. I get bundle of balloons and the shark balloon, terraspark boots, and a shield of Cthulhu, then the rest is summoner items to increase damage or minion slots. Use the imp staff and either cool whip or the firecracker, I usually use obsidian armor (but sometimes forget to make it and fight everything up until plantera with ninja gear because I forget to make armor until hallowed, which I use to the end of the game) No arena, some basic buffs, and that's it, maybe some platforms for campfires but I only sometimes do that if I'm struggling with him. Duke fishron is probably the only boss that I can say "don't get hit and you will win" because every other boss you can get hit and be fine. But because of how easy he is to dodge there isn't any reason not to. I would also say to use gills and flipper potions as you might need to go underwater throughout the fight to not get hit. Just make sure to keep going back and forth across the ocean and when he fires his sharknado make sure to try and lure it away from the centre of the ocean as it makes it easier to dodge fishron and the sharknado. This is why phase 1 is usually the hardest part, because you cant control where is sharknado's go, phase 2 you can, and when he dashes he does longer dashes so it makes them easier to dodge despite its increased speed. Phase 3 is by far the easiest because of how predictable the attacks are. In Phase 3 he will teleport to the top right or top left of your player, and will dodge in a pattern; 1, teleport. 1, 2, teleport. 1, 2, 3, teleport. And then repeats. If you dash away from him and jump up for dash 1, he will miss, then for his second dash, he should dash to you as you are falling and so will miss, for dash 3, just repeat as if it was dash 1. If on dash 2 you are still in the air at the top of your arc as fishron dashes treat it as dash 1 and dash away and jump, then on dash 3 he should miss. The only hard part of phase 3 is realising where he is after a teleport as I'm not 100% sure on what determines which side he teleports to. (my theory is that he will be on the opposite side to the direction you are facing after the last dash before teleporting). Hopefully this helps anyone that finds it hard to fight duke fishron!
I prefer to use the following: (Master mode) Palladium melee armor (regen is through the roof) Fairy/Harpy wings Bundle of balloons (usually have that pre hard mode) frog gear Terraspark boots Yoyo bag (With amarok) Berserker glove Shield of Cthulu All reforged to warding. and amarok reforged to ruthless/godly. It does draw out the fight slightly. but overall you can't really go wrong with this setup. and you don't even need to mine for orichalcum/titanium, you can just go into hardmode, mine some palladium, get the yoyo. catch a truffle worm and go for it right away
tbh the only critique i have with this is that hex doll isn't mentioned in the mage segment, otherwise it's great also holy SHIT this is well madei knew you'd be cooking since you were looking for info in traecord
Glad you liked it. Probably shouldve mentioned hex doll, but i think the range is just too short for 2nd stage to really recommend, although its definitely still viable
Fighting duke fishron pre mech is the most important part of every playthrough i do, so much so that i dont really know any pre plantera to pre golem progression
Guys the best way to practice is to make a journey mode character, go to one of those infinite item servers to get good itrems, then come back to a journey world and turn god mode on and off to restore your health. I was able to kill phases one and two with a zenith and then practice dodging phase 3 for a few minutes at a time. Then I worked my way back.
I was expecting this to somewhat help I wasn't expecting my first serious attempt to beat him I then got the bubble blaster so I now have to do it again
Did a flails only master mode run where I rushed fishron using the drippler crippler, got the flairon first try then proceeded to just clown on the entire rest of hardmode after that we're on the grind 💪💪💪💪
Ok but like, I struggle a lot in the first and second phase more than the actual *hard phase*. His last phase is actually so easy since you don't really need to move much like the first two phase. I usually just go grav potion strat, since playing like PC player, flying here and there while also attacking, in mobile is just not possible. If you attacking, you can't do good manouver, if you decide to do a manouver, you throw your damage. The easiest way for mobile player to do nearly the same thing like PC player are using Flying mounts. Ironically the best would be the cute fishron mount from the Duke.
I find the Cursed Flames to be more reliable than the Crystal Serpent in terms of DPS; the Cursed Flames average around 700-800, whilst the Crystal Serpent averages around 500-600. This is also ignoring the debuff. Both are good options, though, and the Crystal Serpent has a less noticeable mana drain.
TFW a pre-mech guide recommends accessories only obtainable after defeating a mech boss (the Ogre, which is what drops the OOA accessories, only starts appearing in the second and third tier of OOA)
Maybe i missed it, but which difficulty is it tailored to? Masters? Or is it semi viable for Legendary as well? On a side note, i have no clue why YT recommended your channel, however i already can see it it will blow up like crazy, awesome content, good video pacing and superb explanation. You have an easy sub from me!
@@calvin659 If it is for the worthy legendary then these loadouts would be great, but in the zenith seed you have to do the whole fight in low gravity which changes the meta.
For me i just ditch wings and use gravitation potiosn instead. For me i find them hella reliable and help me dodge almost all attacl easily and can make space for 1-3 more damage/survivability accessories
Ichor darts do wayyyy more damage. They split into individual darts with no i frames and you can very frequently get them all to hit fishron for some absurd damage

I'd also recommend the Queen Slime mount, it's incredibly strong and can even potentially allow you to forgo wings, freeing up another accessory slot
That’s true saving accessories slots from wings and shield of Cthulhu can allow you to use more damaging accessories

I get bundle of balloons and the shark balloon, terraspark boots, and a shield of Cthulhu, then the rest is summoner items to increase damage or minion slots. Use the imp staff and either cool whip or the firecracker, I usually use obsidian armor (but sometimes forget to make it and fight everything up until plantera with ninja gear because I forget to make armor until hallowed, which I use to the end of the game)
No arena, some basic buffs, and that's it, maybe some platforms for campfires but I only sometimes do that if I'm struggling with him.
When I was doing this I found that using the queen slime mount for the last phase was pretty much a fool proof way to be him.
Yeah pretty good for some weapons, but other weapons will have a hard time hitting him if you do that
I prefer to use the following: (Master mode)
Palladium melee armor (regen is through the roof)
Fairy/Harpy wings
Bundle of balloons (usually have that pre hard mode)
frog gear
Terraspark boots
Yoyo bag (With amarok)
Berserker glove
Shield of Cthulu
All reforged to warding. and amarok reforged to ruthless/godly.
It does draw out the fight slightly. but overall you can't really go wrong with this setup. and you don't even need to mine for orichalcum/titanium, you can just go into hardmode, mine some palladium, get the yoyo. catch a truffle worm and go for it right away
I found using this info + farming destroyer (with Daedalus storm bow) to get a full mech boss armour destroyed the Duke
tbh the only critique i have with this is that hex doll isn't mentioned in the mage segment, otherwise it's great
also holy SHIT this is well madei knew you'd be cooking since you were looking for info in traecord
Glad you liked it. Probably shouldve mentioned hex doll, but i think the range is just too short for 2nd stage to really recommend, although its definitely still viable
Hex Maniac pfp talking about the hex doll, how fitting.
The arena looks awesome! What kind of materials did you use for the arena and dock area? Id like to try recreating it in my world
ebonwood bathub (horizontal barrels), living mahogany, spooky wood, bamboo fences, rich mahogany walls and palm wood platforms.
@@poliomango Thank you so much!
the magic dagger is also a very solid mage option!
No that balloon double jump mess my momentum
my ears are enjoying resurrections
You deserve the subs
great guide
I was expecting this to somewhat help I wasn't expecting my first serious attempt to beat him I then got the bubble blaster so I now have to do it again
Such a good video, should deserve more likes.
But Im not ashamed to admit that I just cheesed it with the teleporters, now that the mechanic sells em.
For ranger, the Marrow is another powerful option that is often overlooked. I used it in legendary mode against pre-mech fishron
Need that vanity set at the start of the video!
I just cheese with teleporters but you just gave me a reason to actually try
Tysm! This helped a lot :)
for summoner you could alternatively fill in the whole ocean with walls so your spiders can climb walls and hit duke easier
Just get sanguine staff at that point
I find dodging duke fishron easier with the queen slime mount, and you dont even need movement accessories
I beat duke fishron pre plantera in master mode for the worthy because plantera was too hard lol
Did a flails only master mode run where I rushed fishron using the drippler crippler, got the flairon first try then proceeded to just clown on the entire rest of hardmode after that we're on the grind 💪💪💪💪
Realy Amazing Thumbnail!
Shield of cthulthu
Inferno potions
Bundle of balloons
Queen slime mount
A reliable weapon
Easy😊😊
Dude the Celeste music was amazing 🙏🙏
ngl yo content crazy helpful
Kinda surprised you didn't mention the Gellatinous Pillion mount, imo the best mobility item for this fight
Got nerfed. 30% less horizontal speed and less flight time
the pillion/slime mount's vertical speed is too op especially for duke
@@acid9033 I thought that nerf would ruin it, but it's surprisingly good against ftw master mode duke fishron.
great guide!
I would prefer using for melee setup shadow flame knife + frost armor + magma stone + cursed flames for some extra debuff damage
The Crystal Assassin Armor is the best armor imo for the upgraded dash compared to Shield of Cthulhu
I always defeat this fish pre mech to show my dominance and then beat all the 3 mechs at the same time
For mage, isnt it possible to get the devil's trident? And the golden shower is also a great option for popping his bubbles' attack, no?
Im doing a bow-only world and im wondering if ichor arrows or holy arrows are better for the Daedalus stormbow
TFW a pre-mech guide recommends accessories only obtainable after defeating a mech boss (the Ogre, which is what drops the OOA accessories, only starts appearing in the second and third tier of OOA)
Sanguine Staff is easily the best summon for Duke.
The bats are fast, accurate, and have great range.
Tru
@@shoeilette The Cool Whip and Fire Cracker are good whips for Duke aswell
What s the music on 9:00?
Maybe i missed it, but which difficulty is it tailored to? Masters? Or is it semi viable for Legendary as well?
On a side note, i have no clue why YT recommended your channel, however i already can see it it will blow up like crazy, awesome content, good video pacing and superb explanation. You have an easy sub from me!
@@calvin659 If it is for the worthy legendary then these loadouts would be great, but in the zenith seed you have to do the whole fight in low gravity which changes the meta.
Do you have a link for that map? would really wanna practice duke fishron on that map
Thanks, now I have a fisher price bubble gun
Can you tell the measurements of your arena? I wanna build one like this, that seems so clean and clear
Is there a reason that the cross necklace is used rather than the star veil?
How high did you build each of the platforms?
I would expect specific measurements to be important due to sharknado height, but you didn't specify.
so question, would either the hand of creation or the treasure magnet be good for a mage? asking because it seems to affect heart and mana drops too
is the dart rifle any good compared to the dart pistol?
For me i just ditch wings and use gravitation potiosn instead. For me i find them hella reliable and help me dodge almost all attacl easily and can make space for 1-3 more damage/survivability accessories
thoughts on dart rifle and cursed darts? cursed darts deal double dmg on direct hit, and dart rifle deals more with good aiming.
Ichor darts do wayyyy more damage. They split into individual darts with no i frames and you can very frequently get them all to hit fishron for some absurd damage
Lava shark is really good if used under water, alot faster than the others and more mobile
Love the video
