5:46 - 'As someone who's never actually encountered stick drift...'
As someone who has, I can assure you that it has plagued not only my own, but my boyfriends and my friends gaming alike.
The ability to swap out joysticks for a (fairly) reasonable price of £20 a pop is one of the main selling points for me personally.
£210 is a *shocking* amount to pay for a peripheral. But one that gets used regularly and often fails due to thumbstick failure? It's a no brainer.
I'd rather put the money up front for a device with a known failure point that I can replace for a reasonable cost than have to resort to replacing the entire unit, thus throwing money down the drain. 3 Dualsense controllers would cover the cost of a Dualsense Edge, I'm pretty sure I would go through more than this during normal use. I'm already on my 2nd Dualsense since the PS5 came out.

I think it's funny when people say that $20 bucks for a module is really cheap. A month ago I purchased a brand new Xbox series X controller for $39.99. I get that $20 bucks is a small amount of money but for an Alps module that costs less than a dollar I think it's insanely overpriced. Besides, in the US sony does not cover shipping when it comes to warranty. They sell you a broken product and make you pay for the shipping to get it fixed or even worst, they send you an used "refurbished" controller instead. I hate corporations and how greedy they are. Games went from 60 to 70 bucks at the very same time the gaming companies registered all time record on profits. And the fan boys said "oh but it's just $10 dollars more". These spoiled little brats ain't paying for their shit, they living off their parents.

I am a casual player too. I got the Edge for the back buttons. My favorite game needs the down stick pressed for some useful functions, like scanning. I almost sprained my thumbs pressing them down so often. It's much better to map the bottom buttons to the down stick & pressing them with my middle finger.

The back button help you if you can't do claw playstyle, but with back button you don't have to release thumb on analog stick when you want press square or other thumb press
The profile actually help so i can mess buttom remap in game and quick reset when go to main menu like swap press left to bottom

I'm a casual gamer... I got it because I was tired of dealing with stick drift... it was an issue on the last 4 controllers I got... and tired of spending time sending controllers back... Replacing sticks should be possible on all controllers... sticks wear out so fast that they should be replaceable...

The main reason for locking the cable to the controller is over time the connection will become loose from use and locking them together should hopefully prevent that.

I'm a casual gamer. I've had my controller about a month. Not only do I like it better than the elite series 2 controller I have, it's the most comfortable controller I've ever played with (PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360/one/series x, GameCube, Wii, WiiU, switch). My only complaint is the battery life.

Hey Russ, new sub here! Hall effect sensor only fix 2 of the 3 problems with stick drift. The 3rd problem is the spring tension for the thumbstick. Its the same in a hall effect stick so It will drift over time when the spring looses tension.

Stick drift is definitely a huge problem. It happened to me 5+ times on the PS4, and I’ve had 3 PS5 controllers get drift. Sony should make better analog sticks instead of having replaceable ones. Oh yeah the cable “lock” is stupid as shit in my opinion. I’d rather have my controller unplug than have my PS5 fall to the floor.

I don't agree with you : on Xbox, you can find controllers with back buttons or pads at affordable prices.. this is not the case on PS5.

I've rarely had stick drift until this recent generation. Switch and Xbox controllers all have it. I have several Xbox Series controllers with it, actually. I haven't used my PS5 controllers much so they're still fine, but it is definitely an issue these days.

  • @SamiiYou
    @SamiiYou ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was going to get one but the battery life, at around 2 hours, is just way too short. I'm thinking that what will happen is there will probably be a revision in a year or so where they fix this issue, like what happened with the orginal Switch. What this means is that if you get one now it's possible that you'll get left SOL when the new revision comes out since I can't imagine the resale value being that great if you want to upgrade.
Of course this could be a non-issue for you and you could be perfectly fine with having it permanently connected to the machine. But if that is the case why are you paying $200 for what is effectively a wired controller? And like I said if it's not an issue you could possibly get one dirt cheap if you're willing to wait. In my opinion Sony have released, what is, a defective product on the market and they expect their own customers to shoulder the cost.
If you absolutely have to go out and spend a ridiculous amount of money on a controller I'd recommend the Victrix Pro BFG, which, while it doesn't have the same build quality and doesn't support all the features of this controller like hepatic feedback - mainly due to Sony - is still a better investment than this controller, IMHO. Assuming replacement stick modules become available down the line, that is.

I'm an average gamer, and not a pro...
I'm a Microsoft fan but I also play on PS5 (I like some exclusive games on PSN...).
What I hate about Sony for the PS5 is simple : you CAN'T buy any third party controller with all the "gadgets" from Sony, ie, haptic return and vibration ... You can ONLY buy an official sony's controller.
When I see that EVEN the battery has a "lower life" of use... what's the next move for Sony ?? ....Trying to sell empty boxes at 200 Euros ??
Oh, by the way $ 200 is expensive ? NO, in Europe we have to pay 239 Euros !!
You can guess what I'm thinking of this "new" pro controller ....
