Hi Dave. I purchased a few items based upon your review. I purchased the Grip Puppy, LidLox handlebar helmet locks, and the Mo-Door garage door system. Thank you!!
This is a very nice bike and I like how you’ve put some of your own personal touches to it. I had a Corbin seat that was hard as a rock. When I bought the bike used I told salesman that’ll be first think I change. He said before you do ride it for awhile. I did just that. We went on trips and put on 1000’s of miles. Most comfortable and supportive seat I ever owned. When I traded bike off it wouldn’t fit on new bike. I should’ve bought one for new bike but never did.
That's good to hear. I'm not a long distance rider - typically out for an hour or two then back, so I'm hopeful it gets a bit more comfortable over time. Thanks for watching and for the info.
I’m not in the market for a bagger, but was curious enough about them to search them on YT. I watched this video all the way to the end, because it is so well done. Very nice video. Keep up the good work.
Great video! Loved it and took some great idea from it. I just bought 2020 B (I did rode 2018 B for 2 long distance rides but it was rental - New out of the box) and wanted to see the must (like the rear guard), the improvement and the good to have and your Bike / video has it all.I still did not find seat I like (I like the stock seat, so maybe I will just change the color of it) Thank you for the video!
Beautiful set up brother! thanks for all the detail. I am currently looking for a 1600B and your set up is exactly what I want to do so thank you for taking the time to spell it out.
Thanks. I’m having some fit issues in the cockpit of the one I test ride today. Feel a bit cramped and need to look into lowering the pegs or raising the seat. Any insight?
Add a spring to the floorboards, between board and bracket so there is tension on it if flick it up by accident. a spring similar to what is on a kickstand. Really nice bike!!
Nice overall review of all your mods. That's a sweet bike. I test rode a couple different K1600 during BMW Demo Days. I currently have an R1250 RS and love that torquey boxer engine. However, the smoothness of that K is amazing. It was like riding on a cloud. Enjoy and safe journeys to you.
Thanks for your comment. The 1250 is also super cool. I was looking at the new R 1300 GS but found a good deal on a 2018 Fat Boy 114. It’s significantly different from the BMW so it’s nice to have two very different rides. Ride safe 👍.
@@Josh23913 Wow, those are very different rides for sure. What are a few pros and cons of the K1600? Although I did test ride them a couple times those were only about 20 minute rides not enough time to really reveal the pros and cons. I was toying with the idea of getting an R18 Bagger. Bar riser, lift handle, oil cooler guard, etc. BMW foot peg lowering kit. I’m 6’ 2”. Akropovic pipe. DK shift kit. Cuts the throw. And the biggest improvement....an RDL seat.
You would love the RDL. Pricey but worth it. And they do charge more if not the stock pan. The Corbin may hold a slight appearance advantage but the RDL is by no means ugly. And it is easily a better seat than the Corbin.

Full, clear and excellent visibility through the screen and air when I want it by lowering the screen and deploying the hydraulic fly by wire side vents. :) This is my third V Technic. Two on my previous K1200. LOVE this shield in every way except cleaning needs to be done gently with only micro fibre cloth as it get fine scratches easily. I had never considered changing saddles until I saw this. What a classy look! I’ve never met anyone that does not love their Corbin Seat. I just has a 400 mile day and was wishing I had a back rest. On a 4500 mile West/Northwest coastal trip, my stock inferior peg rubbers came off frequently, (standing under 35 mph is my preferred way to stretch and limber up). A handy friend modified a pair of aggressive dirt BMW Adventurer spring loaded to stay down foot pegs, no slip, wider deeper and really a very stable way to stand while rolling. High function over attractiveness but they’re awesome. I never knew those nice side 6 covers were available, a new must have for me. I too have those side bag guards from the same company, money well spent. I also added a side stand widener from them. No more worrying about using the side stand almost anywhere except very soft sand. My most enthusiastic find has been my tires. The originals factory B stones were terrible. Nice job ! I like the mods that u did. I've been brand specific for way too long ! I'll b ditching my street glide for a Brand New BMW 1600 B in Mars Red !
Nice additions to your bagger. I don't own a BMW K1600 yet but am considering purchasing one, since I retired a year ago, but I've had trouble finding videos that show what types of accessories are available. If I buy one, it'll likely be a K1600 GTL because I'd like to do some long distance touring. I like the idea of the shifter extension and the foot boards. Probably reduces foot fatigue on longer trips and is more comfortable as well. I see you put links to most of these products in your video's description and I'll certainly take a look at some of the products. Thanks for the well put together video!
@@Josh23913 Dave, I’ve own a couple of touring bikes, a Yamaha 750 and 1100 and put foot pegs on both of them. Did some interstate riding years ago but now live in Southeast Alaska which is a temperate rainforest so the bikes went the way of the dodo bird. Might be moving to the East Coast in the next couple of years and will definitely look at the BMW then.
@@Josh23913 No worries. Watched all the way thru. In terms of the windshield how much does it help with the side to side wind buffeting? I probably go a bit faster than you on the freeway based on your admission of speed on the side wings. When I approach a big rig within about 50-75 yards the wind buffet/wobble is ridiculous on most occasions compared to my R1200RT I used to own. The RT cust thru wind like a hot knife thru butter. Thoughts?
Hi Dave.....thanks for taking the time to make this video👍. I am looking to move back to 2 wheels after a few years on 3 wheels (new hip now). I’m a taller rider (6’6”), and having sat on a 1600B out here in Aus, I believe it provides the best option for me, albeit with the Ilium lower foot boards, handlebar risers (possibly even the new handlebars I have seen without the centre bar), taller screen and a Daylong seat that would be a bit longer and higher than stock. I’ll probably also go with the heel shift as well, all long as I can fit the size 15s in there. The 15s are an issue with the stock peg and the brake, as the peg puts my boot toe hard up against the bodywork. Without your video I wouldn’t even have known about Ilium, and would have given up on the B. From what I can see, you have no “showstopper” issues with any of the Ilium gear you have bought?
Thanks again, Dave.....just wondering, have you seen these aftermarket bars for the 1600B from Helibars.... made without the cross bar? I know nothing about them, but saw them in my searching for 1600B aftermarket accessories www.helibars.com/shop-by-bike/bmw/bmw-k1600gt-gtl-b/helibars-replacement-handlebar-for-k1600-bagger-ga/
Dave, two more questions and I’ll leave you in peace. Did you get the lower boards, higher seat and bar risers because you are tall? ...... and do you ever find yourself scraping the lower boards? Based on a couple of your replies, it appears that you are more of a cruise for enjoyment rider, (like me), than someone who really punts it hard through corners. I hope that doesn’t insult you 😉👍.
Gee Dave, I hope you were wearing boots when you felt your toe scrape the pavement 😉😆😆😆. Yes, your comments (and video), have helped enormously. Many, many thanks.....Pete
@@Josh23913 I just traded my harley for a GA and found the bars about 2" off. First thing that went through my mind was "Great, another bike I have to spend a wack of cash on bars". Only cost $105 for the risers. I'll pay that any day. lol
Dave, I have a BMW K1600 Grand America, your video gave me some ideas on what to upgrade. Curious why you didn't get the heel shifter? Thanks for the video.
When I had my HD Heritage I had a heel shifter, but found that I never really used it. On the K1600B, if I'm using the forward foot rests I find it easy to swing my foot back to do a quick shift from 5th to 6th, but I typically use the lower foot boards while I'm up or down shifting. I feel more stable in that position.
@@Josh23913 Thanks for the reply. Did you install the Remus exhaust yourself or have it installed? I am thinking about getting them and do not know if I should try to install them myself or have it done. Thanks.
Dave Great upgrades. wish you talked about the mileage you have and if you had any issues on the maintenance side. I own a Road Glide Ultra with 28,000,00 miles not an ounce of problems. I love it. That said trade in value will be in near future and with a BMW Dealer right down the street I am strongly considering the K1600B. I'm retired and my Harley weighs over 900 lbs. At a stand still and moving it around that weight makes a beast to handle. I hit your subscribe button, Hopefully you will give that info. I want a machine that has a windshield and tunes. Even though the Goldwing is a great bike I have no interest in it!! IMO BMW has some class. Ride Safe!!!!!
Sweet ride I have the blue one. Unfortunately that color came out just after I bought mine😡 I have the Remus complet exhaust as well and a tune. Jumped ship from 2 Harley cvo's. 1 with a 124 inch. Harley who? Bmw is an absolute dream to ride
one of the best videos I have ever seen, detailed explaination. I sold my R1200RT and looking to buy K1600GTL. I am not sure of K1600 B , as I don't like the shape until I saw your video. My knowledge is not that much that I can do this modification , therefore I will go with GTL. I am trying to but 2019, 2020. Any advise ?
Wow! Looks great. Well done. Nice appointments. Really like that Corbin saddle and rear storage compartment combo. Be nice if there was a small LED brake light trim around the edge of that storage compartment. Really works with the bike. I noticed what looks like a pair speaker grills on the panniers?

After 300ish miles my stock GTL seat starts really bothering my butt. After 700 miles I'm in PAIN on it. I have a Corbin low rise on my KLR-650, and love it but with that being said, I think that I'm going with a Russel Day Long on the GTL.
Hi Dave, I've done several of the same upgrades, and have a few questions on the ones I'm still considering if you don't mind: 1. Corbin seat - has it broken in yet after a summer of riding? Better than stock for you? 2. Filling tank with bar backs - do you put the nozzle thru the gap in the bar? Looks like getting the nozzle under would be difficult. 3. Lowering floor boards - shift extender looks in a much better spot as is, how about the rear brake? Did you adjust the brake lever position? Thanks again Dave, really enjoy your videos :-) Andrew
Didn't see the link for the rubber panniers protectors you have installed on the top of your bags.....great addition. Can you tell us where you got them?
Outstanding video and super-informative, Dave! I've purchased many of the accessories you feature here. Two questions: 1) do you know if the Gerbing 12V port and the Hotwired battery connector would work for Warm & Safe brand of heated gear? 2) to install the Mo-Door opener on the bike's panel, does the plastic tip detach/reattach from the activation button easily? I assume that's the approach to get it mounted properly. Thanks again for an awesome video!
@@Josh23913 after receiving my KGA, I did install the Ilium bar risers, passenger floorboards, and side panels, the heated gear setup you suggested with Gerbing/Hotwired, the Mo-Door opener, Stubby antennae, Wunderlich windshield, and TrackMount. It all looks pretty damn good! Thanks again for all the recos....
Nicely done! I have the same bike... even the Monolith paint. There are only 50 Bs with this paint. I have some of the same mods you do, and you have some that I would like to do. The seat is very intriguing as I ride solo too and could use the 1" rise.
As I said earlier that I did not like K1600B, after seeing your video, I have started looking for it. May ki ask you app how much such modification cast ? app idea ?
Dave, thank you for your video. I too bought a Corbin Saddle for my 2021 K1600B and was surprised to find the different seat heat connectors. I like what you show in the video but there are 3 wires on mine, not 2. Did you omit one of them, or did I miss something? Can you please direct me to the connectors and taps you used, including their sizes? I would really appreciate your guidance.
Hi Davryn, thanks for watching. The Corbin Smuggler seat only had two wires, likely because it is a "solo" seat. If the Corbin you purchased is a two-up seat, the third wire is likely for the passenger seat area. If that is the case, you can still do what I did, or you might be able to purchase the stock BMW seat connector and create a cable that attaches directly to the bike connector - that would be ideal. I provided a link to the posi-taps and connectors I used in the video description. If you need a three-wire connector, you can search Amazon for "HIGHROCK 5 Kit 3 Pin Way Car Waterproof Electrical Connector Plug with Wire AWG Marine". That one should work well.
Hi Greg. Here's a link to what I used for the panier protection. It's actually a Kawasaki Ninja fuel tank grip panel, but the shape worked out pretty well for my purpose (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVOVMEK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I had to keep applying pressure on certain points for a few days until the adhesive really took hold. But after that and a few years later I've not seen any lifting.
Thanks man, I'm just in the process of deciding whether or not to turn in my 2011 CVO street glide for a 2018 B. Thoughts ? Your video was awesome and very concise, and I love the mods you did. Gary
Hey Gary. Thanks for watching. I came from a series of Harleys, and couldn’t be happier switching to this BMW. I did a test ride on a 2018 K1600B and it was a blast. The 19s were out so went with that, but would have been just as happy with the 18. Do a test ride first if you can, but I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed.
Hi there. The side frame panels are great. I'm sure they look nice on my GTLExclusive. Thank you for the tip. Mr Dave......the boots on the video.....witch brand are they ? I've been looking on the net but can not find nothing similar.
This is a very informative video, based on the information you’ve provided I am thinking of purchasing the ear buds by Tozo, the question I have is can you answer a phone call? I understand it is good for music etc but I wonder if it would pick up my voice while unswerving a call. Thank you
I've never tried using the phone during a ride. I would think that the combination of wind and engine noise, plus the muffled acoustics inside the helmet, would make the audio on the other end pretty bad. In my opinion, if you expect to be using the phone during a ride, you might be better off going with a Cardo PackTalk system that has a separate microphone positioned in front of your mouth. But the audio quality for music will not be nearly as good. Thanks for watching!
I ride a HD and it’s a loud bike I run the cardo freedom 4 and the audio is awesome in my helmet. Plus having the ability to hands free calling is great callers can’t tell you’re riding your bike

Love the detail! thanks for all the links as well.
Would help to have times noted in your description so one could jump to items of interest. Thanks for the detailed review.
Thoughts?
Very informative, keep up the good work Dave...
I know nothing about them, but saw them in my searching for 1600B aftermarket accessories
www.helibars.com/shop-by-bike/bmw/bmw-k1600gt-gtl-b/helibars-replacement-handlebar-for-k1600-bagger-ga/
Yeah......I did see your phone.....ideal position.......the “gotchas” always kick in somewhere, eh 😉😆😆
Many, many thanks.....Pete
thank you so much for info.i didn't how many upgrades exist
Awesome upgrades - great presentation. Thank you!
Awesome looking machine. Congrats!
Excellent presentation,breliant upgrade 🙌
Just placed an order for the riser and side panels. Great pricing. thanks for sharing the links
@@Josh23913 I just traded my harley for a GA and found the bars about 2" off. First thing that went through my mind was "Great, another bike I have to spend a wack of cash on bars". Only cost $105 for the risers. I'll pay that any day. lol
@@Josh23913 Curious, did you sell the original seat?
Dave Randall ah gotcha. Was wondering if you wanted to sell it lol
Great video! Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks.
@@zeus66061 That's the one thing I let the dealer do for me. I really didn't have an interest in doing it myself.
Dave Great upgrades. wish you talked about the mileage you have and if you had any issues on the maintenance side. I own a Road Glide Ultra
with 28,000,00 miles not an ounce of problems.
Great job on this video.
Excellent video, very informative, thank you.
Awesome upgrade and your bike looks great
Dave Randall Dave, I am looking for arm rest for my grand America and other accessories. Could help me ?
muy original y bella motocicleta. felicidades
Great review. Many thanks!
one of the best videos I have ever seen, detailed explaination.
I sold my R1200RT and looking to buy K1600GTL. I am not sure of K1600 B , as I don't like the shape until I saw your video. My knowledge is not that much that I can do this modification , therefore I will go with GTL. I am trying to but 2019, 2020. Any advise ?
Great Video, nice looking bike.
Thanks!
Wow! Looks great. Well done. Nice appointments. Really like that Corbin saddle and rear storage compartment combo. Be nice if there was a small LED brake light trim around the edge of that storage compartment. Really works with the bike. I noticed what looks like a pair speaker grills on the panniers?
It might be scuff protection?
That's some serious money you put into that girl! Enjoy the ride!
Thanks Steven. I am enjoying it much. Ride safe :)
@@Josh23913 I'll be picking up my new to me k1600b this week... trade in my 16 r1200rt for a 21 challenger.. 6 months of the challenger in ready to go back to the Germans..
@@skippynj1979 Before purchasing my K1600B I was seriously looking at the Indians, because all I rode before were Harleys. I'm so glad I went with the BMW. Congratulations!
@@Josh23913 I have 2 Harleys and 2 Indians aswell still in the stable... I like them all but... I prefer the brakes, handling and engine of the German bikes... my FTR1200S will be gone soon... fun.. but just takes room up in the garage..
@@skippynj1979 WOW! I'm sure its nice to have different bikes to ride. I had to settle for a beater truck and no car payment to afford the K1600B. Happy riding!
Great job
Great video. Well done. Thank you.
Thanks for watching 😀
After 300ish miles my stock GTL seat starts really bothering my butt. After 700 miles I'm in PAIN on it. I have a Corbin low rise on my KLR-650, and love it but with that being said, I think that I'm going with a Russel Day Long on the GTL.
Great video and your house and drive look wonderful 😎
Excellent video. I'd like a carbon copy of this bike.
Thanks for watching.😃
Hi Dave, I've done several of the same upgrades, and have a few questions on the ones I'm still considering if you don't mind:
Thanks again Dave, really enjoy your videos :-)
Andrew
Good detail
Looking into camera
EXCELLENT Video!
Didn't see the link for the rubber panniers protectors you have installed on the top of your bags.....great addition. Can you tell us where you got them?
Great review 👍🏻
Thanks for watching 🙂
Are those external speakers in the paniers ? What brand and where to purchase? Please inform as this was not an option when I purchased my K1600B
Excellent video thank you
👍
nice bike! someday Ill get one.
thank you! great review!
👍
You've turned it into a two wheeled 850!
Very well done 👍🏼
Thank you 👍
Outstanding video and super-informative, Dave!
@@Josh23913 awesome tips -- thank you! Will post pics of the finished product once I'm done...
@@Josh23913 here's my testimonial! th-cam.com/video/BZDJHRIm6sc/w-d-xo.html
Harley guy..but I really like your video.
Very well done.
Nicely done! I have the same bike... even the Monolith paint. There are only 50 Bs with this paint. I have some of the same mods you do, and you have some that I would like to do. The seat is very intriguing as I ride solo too and could use the 1" rise.
@@Josh23913 Dave, just wondering if the Corbin seat is softening up yet? I really like this set-up. Thinking I might have to do it.
@@Josh23913 Thanks Dave. Yes, very helpful. I'm going to buy it!
nice job thanks Dave
Thanks for watching
Enjoyed your video, great job!!! May I ask where you found the saddlebag protection? Working on my own B!!
@@Josh23913 , thank you my friend. You're the best. Regards.
Great looking motorcycle
Enjoyed the video ! Does your bike use oil between changes ? Thanks
@@TheoStephens-n6q I have not experienced any oil usage/loss but I’m also not riding long distances. I typically go out for 1 hour rides.
