What are the rubber protection strips on top of the panniers ?
Those are just that… rubber protection pads. They’re actually Ninja tank pads. I put them there because it is a typical area where your boot can accidentally hit when mounting the bike.
Nice overall review of all your mods. That's a sweet bike. I test rode a couple different K1600 during BMW Demo Days. I currently have an R1250 RS and love that torquey boxer engine. However, the smoothness of that K is amazing. It was like riding on a cloud. Enjoy and safe journeys to you.
Thanks for your comment. The 1250 is also super cool. I was looking at the new R 1300 GS but found a good deal on a 2018 Fat Boy 114. It’s significantly different from the BMW so it’s nice to have two very different rides. Ride safe 👍.
@@Josh23913 Wow, those are very different rides for sure. What are a few pros and cons of the K1600? Although I did test ride them a couple times those were only about 20 minute rides not enough time to really reveal the pros and cons. I was toying with the idea of getting an R18 Bagger. To be my different ride from my RS.
@@Texas2Tires I can think of absolutely no cons about the K1600B. It is a fun bike to ride, it corners very well, massive acceleration, and very comfortable. I've been very happy with this ride.
@@Josh23913 Great to hear, really glad your enjoying the bike. Thanks for sharing your insights.
The start up at the end of the video sounds sweet!
Ok thanks
Enjoyed the video ! Does your bike use oil between changes ? Thanks
@@TheoStephens-n6q I have not experienced any oil usage/loss but I’m also not riding long distances. I typically go out for 1 hour rides.
Thank you for the info
👍
Just bought one of these bikes and really like your taste in upgrades. Which phone holder is that you have?
It is a TackForm Mount. A link is in the description. Thanks for watching 👍
Did you check out the k1600 GT version? If so why choose the bagger & why not the GT?
I simply like the styling of the B over the GT. They're both great bikes.
Very nice bike. Do you still own it and how has it treated you?
Yes I still have it and it is a joy to ride. No issues with it so far. Thanks for watching.
Dave, when you put on the bar riser extensions, did you have to modify anything else (cables, etc)? Thanks.
Hello, I did not have to change/modify anything. There was plenty of cable length. The only minor issue it caused was visibility in the rear-view mirrors. But this is because I wanted to have my hands and arms a bit higher. I can see fine, but I do see my hands and grips as well.
This is a very informative video, based on the information you’ve provided I am thinking of purchasing the ear buds by Tozo, the question I have is can you answer a phone call? I understand it is good for music etc but I wonder if it would pick up my voice while unswerving a call. Thank you
I've never tried using the phone during a ride. I would think that the combination of wind and engine noise, plus the muffled acoustics inside the helmet, would make the audio on the other end pretty bad. In my opinion, if you expect to be using the phone during a ride, you might be better off going with a Cardo PackTalk system that has a separate microphone positioned in front of your mouth. But the audio quality for music will not be nearly as good. Thanks for watching!
I ride a HD and it’s a loud bike I run the cardo freedom 4 and the audio is awesome in my helmet. Plus having the ability to hands free calling is great callers can’t tell you’re riding your bike
So, after riding with the Corbin Smuggler seat for three plus years, I can confidently say that it is the worst seat imaginable. I can't see how this would be much different for any other rider. I really like the way it looks, and having the extra storage, but instead of breaking in over the past three years, it has become un-rideable for any length of time. The padding has remained hard and the sides of the seat create hot spot on the thighs. So, I am in the process of having the seat reworked by a third party, and will post the results once I have it back. Some Corbin seats may be good - this is the only one I have experience with, but I would advise to stay away from this one.
Corbin seats changed over the years. In the '80's, that was the first thing I would buy. No longer. They became too hard to the point of being painful.
I just had my Corbin seat reworked by a guy in California. It is now much more comfortable, and a bit lower as well, so that has also helped.@@RandyTownsendman
Add a spring to the floorboards, between board and bracket so there is tension on it if flick it up by accident. a spring similar to what is on a kickstand. Really nice bike!!
Interesting idea. Might have to give that a try. Thanks for watching :)
Very well done 👍🏼

@@romesyoutubechannel5356 I've had mine up to 115 with the windshield halfway up and didn't notice any wobble, but my heart rate was elevated 😁
@@Josh23913 Thank you for replying. I'm looking at buying a 2018 K1600b next week.
@@romesyoutubechannel5356 Congrats on that. I'm sure you're aware of the transmission recall they had on the 2018/2019 models. Can't imagine the one you're looking at hasn't had that upgrade completed. Hope it works out for you...
Corbin seats 🤢🤮. They look great and that’s it! Worst customer service out there and their seats are like riding on a wooden bench! You don’t “break-in” their seats…. you break-in your ass! I have one on my Softail and hate it. It’s been on there since 2015…. so it’s definitely “broke-in”. Lol
Yeah I now have to agree. It’s not getting any better. If it were not for the look I would get a new one.

Great review 👍🏻
Thanks for watching 🙂
Not sure about the Posi-taps. you no doubt used the ones that pierce through the wire as a tap. This leaves a hole in the tapped wire. Not sure I like that. I notice you tapped into a red/yellow wire. I guess this is switched? I would have to look at the wiring diagram to confirm before punching a hole in a wire. I own a 2021. I think you said yours is a 2019? wiring may be different. I guess you added this just for accidents of perhaps road rage issues? Good video brother.
Thanks for watching. My thinking at the time was to create a connection that had the least likely hood of voiding the warranty. Solder connection would certainly be better. The dash cam was added strictly in case of the types of things you mentioned. The video and sound quality are crap.
I would have soldered the wires rather than using a mechanical crimp if I was to do this. The Posi-Taps he used actually pierce the harness wire in the center. Leaves a pretty big hole. I really don't like this. Instead, I will find the BMW seat connector and pins. Install that on the corbin seat. That way you just plug it in like factory. I noticed he used only two wires. He left the third wire unconnected. My 2021 K1600B uses all three wires. Not sure what he is doing different. I guess it works.
The seat I have is a solo. The third unused wire is for the passenger seat area, and therefore not needed.
I have heated passenger seat@@Josh23913

The Remus sound great, but am I correct in understanding that each side is around 1200 USD?
Yes. Not sure if they are still available today but I paid about $2500 for the set in 2020.
Where did you get the pads for the top of your saddlebags?
Search Amazon for “KAWASAKI Ninja 300 (2013 - CURRENT) Snake Skin TechSpec Tank Grips”
Did you have to buy new wires and cables for the throttle, brake, clutch, switches when you installed the risers?
No, there was no issue with cable lengths. Installed very easily with no problems.
nice job thanks Dave
Thanks for watching
What an awesome beast! Just a suggestion for your next mod. Stage 1 or 2 flash tune. I guarantee you, you'll have a smile on your face when you give it the beans
Actually I installed a Flash tune from Brenttuning a while back. Didn’t notice much of a difference. Was your tune something different?

What a great video full of very interesting upgrades. I too have a K1600B GA. You’ve given me lots of great ideas. On my bike on day 1, I added a large V Technic windscreen. I’m 5’9” and large windscreen has always been my preference over bugs. Full, clear and excellent visibility through the screen and air when I want it by lowering the screen and deploying the hydraulic fly by wire side vents. :) This is my third V Technic. Two on my previous K1200. LOVE this shield in every way except cleaning needs to be done gently with only micro fibre cloth as it get fine scratches easily. I had never considered changing saddles until I saw this. What a classy look! I’ve never met anyone that does not love their Corbin Seat. I just has a 400 mile day and was wishing I had a back rest. On a 4500 mile West/Northwest coastal trip, my stock inferior peg rubbers came off frequently, (standing under 35 mph is my preferred way to stretch and limber up). A handy friend modified a pair of aggressive dirt BMW Adventurer spring loaded to stay down foot pegs, no slip, wider deeper and really a very stable way to stand while rolling. High function over attractiveness but they’re awesome. I never knew those nice side 6 covers were available, a new must have for me. I too have those side bag guards from the same company, money well spent. I also added a side stand widener from them. No more worrying about using the side stand almost anywhere except very soft sand. My most enthusiastic find has been my tires. The originals factory B stones were terrible. Rough ride, poor handling and 3500 miles both front and back were cupped and worn out. Went to Metzeler RoadTech 1 HM (heavy motorcycle). 6000+ miles F&B with sport bike handling, touring comfort and amazing traction. Thanks for the well done and informative content. Have you discovered how to reduce the glare on the navigation screen?
Hey Clayton, thanks for watching the video and for your comments. Regarding the nav screen, I honestly haven't noticed a glare, but then again, I'm not using it extensively. They do make anti glare screen sheets that can be cut to size. Not sure if it would help but maybe something to check in to. Regards :)
The suzuki 1000 gt also has terrible tires
Out of curiosity, what was the total cost of your upgrades?
Total cost of all upgrades was ~$6000 at the time. Thanks for watching 😀
Oh, baby Remus exhaust just beautiful!! You have a magnificent bike sir!
Thank you kindly. Glad you liked the video.
I am 5'11" and do not feel cramped. I must admit that sometimes the leg-back position can get a little uncomfortable. But switching to the forward foot boards resolves that issue. Not sure how much difference 2" would make. Hopefully you can do a test ride to find out.
Thanks. Was looking at them today and will try the newer K5 based on a review comparing the K2. Mine will be mounted on a 21 K1600b
Very good video, very good information. I liked your K1600 very much.
Thanks for watching :)
Which Tackform mount did you use?
I purchased the “Short Reach” model. I can’t remember which exact one, but the only difference between them is the diameter ranges. You’ll just need to determine your handlebar diameter to pick the right one.
Thanks so much; your bike is beautiful
Thanks and thanks for watching 👍
Really cool bike. I think the updates are very tasteful and bike look awesome 👌
Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Well done! Very informative and easy to understand. Just purchased a 2022 K1600B and having installed several of the items you mentioned.
Congrats on the new ride! If you're like me, you are going to really enjoy it. Glad to hear the video helped you with some upgrades.
Enjoyed your video, great job!!! May I ask where you found the saddlebag protection? Working on my own B!!
Hi Greg. Here's a link to what I used for the panier protection. It's actually a Kawasaki Ninja fuel tank grip panel, but the shape worked out pretty well for my purpose (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVOVMEK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I had to keep applying pressure on certain points for a few days until the adhesive really took hold. But after that and a few years later I've not seen any lifting.
Thanks man, I'm just in the process of deciding whether or not to turn in my 2011 CVO street glide for a 2018 B. Thoughts ? Your video was awesome and very concise, and I love the mods you did. Gary
Hey Gary. Thanks for watching. I came from a series of Harleys, and couldn’t be happier switching to this BMW. I did a test ride on a 2018 K1600B and it was a blast. The 19s were out so went with that, but would have been just as happy with the 18. Do a test ride first if you can, but I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed.
Did you need to change any cables when doing the handlebar risers
No. I had plenty of slack to work with. No issues.
Well thought out and tasteful mods. I now have seat envy.
Thanks for watching. The seat is a looker but they seem to take forever to break in.
