  • Jaeger has his own account for videos now on TH-cam, Jaeger Tracks. You can also find info at www.jaegertracks.com
    Jaeger Tracks first public buck recovery of 2019 was a nice buck for Christy. The deer was shot the evening prior, jumped and pushed, and looked for by a crew the following morning unsuccessfully before calling us. Congratulations Christy. Good boy Jaeger. #jaegertracks #dachshund #huntingdog #teckel #gooddog

    Excellent handling of your working dog. Doesn't hurt that he's your bud too.

    What a track, they would have been screwed without Jaeger! What area are you located in? We are doing a Kentucky hunt this season, if we end up needing a track it would be cool to have jaeger come out and do a little collaboration video or something...

    I put my dog on a deer my in-law shot and was amazed to watch him trail it 300 yards straight to a dead doe. He was never formally trained or anything, but that was fun enough that I want to start putting him on more deer. How do you train your dog this late? Idk how to get him on more deer.

    Would rather do the tracking than the actual whitetail hunting which I do enjoy,wish I would have gotten into tracking when I was a little younger,to late for me

    Did you make a GPS track at all to see how far the deer traveled after the shot? If you did, how far did he go? That looked like a really long track but those one lung hits can go for a surprisingly long distance.

    • @DamonBungard
      @DamonBungard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not. If I made a guess it was roughly 1000 yards from hit site to recovery site. I counted around 700 paces from their last blood/point of loss to recovery site.

    Super awesome! I love how pumped she was!(huntress)
    Question, as I'm gonna train my next pup to do this.
    How come you didn't start him on the blood at the road crossing?

    • @DamonBungard
      @DamonBungard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You always want to start at the hit site and let the dog learn the scent of the particular hit deer as much as possible.

    • @caseycharter5731
      @caseycharter5731 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DamonBungard that makes sense.
      However, would the dog not learn the scent from there on?
      Not questioning you in a negative way, trying to learn as you're obviously very successful.

    • @DamonBungard
      @DamonBungard  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@caseycharter5731 they could, but there will always be more scent at the hit site from the shot. If you want to give the dog the best chance of success, that's where to start. What if there was a different buck that crossed the deer trail just across the road that morning after the buck that was shot had passed? It would be very easy for a dog to try to follow that fresher scent. The more time they have to learn the deer you're after, the better.

      Not only that but then you know for sure he is on the right deer because the hunter should know exactly where the deer ran after impact
