Weapon Freshness is actually one of my personal favourite new additions to S3, especially with how the weapon licenses are tied to it (and leveling normally, but shhhhhh). Encouraging you to try different weapons with the allure of stickers and badges is honestly super addictive to me, and helps me find more weapons I enjoy playing! Just getting a full page of weapons I like to 4 stars and seeing the little 4 stars above them just feels great, in a way those tacked on turf point badges in 2 never did tbh.
I'm looking to get every weapon to max freshness. Currently I have everything at 3 stars and 26 weapons at 4 stars. One of the things to note about the bonus points in turf war is that it was originally added as a system to splatoon 1 in an update to curb a problem where players were way more likely to pick a high paint weapon and ignore their team in favor of a high score at the end. An aerospray could easily score you 1800 points which was often times more points than any member of the enemy team got even with the 500 win bonus. It was a very unfun play experience so they moved away from giving you experience per point painted and went for a threshold system instead to cap it. The system exists so that low painting weapons are more incentivized since you only care about clearing a certain threshold for points. Which is why a 1000 point threshold would defeat the purpose. One thing from Splatoon 1 that I greatly miss is how ranked modes used to give gradually more experience and money the higher your rank went. I believe it was 500 points more per knockout and I don't remember if it went all the way to 5000 but I do remember 4500 being a threshold. As an S+ player in 3 it would be nice if I was at least rewarded with more points per win for playing with such difficult opponents but oh well I suppose.
Really simple, comprehensive and awesome explanation of this. I didn't know the point system of winning a match had many details about it. This video is really useful.
I’m in the process of 5 Starring Flingza. Now that I know how it actually works, I don’t have to completely focus on painting anymore. Update: I've done it!
Wow, I just assumed it worked the same as player xp. The turf war freshness actually does have a small cosmetic use. Upon hitting certain numbers, the weapon's flag on the equip screen changes to green at 5, bronze at 10, silver at 15, and gold at 50! In Splatoon 2 you would also get an xp bonus for hitting green, bronze, or silver for the first time with a weapon, but that was removed in 3
Thanks for this! I've been trying to figure out exactly how many wins are needed at the bare minimum for a full 0-5 star freshness journey, but this really puts the numbers in perspective, especially, considering a good 100, 200, or even 300 extra games might be needed due to bad losses or poor performance in won matches.
I have 5 Stars on only one as of right now - the Octobrush - but I have four stars on Inkbrush and Vanilla Splatana Wiper. I plan to grind for 5 Star Wiper (both of them) soon and this video is really helpful to put the numbers in perspective. Time to practice more Wiper! (And after that would be Painbrush and my rollers but it’s been a while since I’ve touched any of my rollers…)
I used to focus so much about the Freshness *rating* (That number thing you see on the side when you're about to select Turf War) but because I mostly abandoned Turf War, I focus on Ranked. Now this vid inspired me to get the stickers. I knew someone who got gold Ttek Splattershot sticker and seeing how he played and his knowledge of the game of his age, I'd say he definitely deserves it because for me I go kamikaze with Painbrush when my team acts too cautious.
And then there's me, someone who 100% completes any game I play including splatoon 3, I might be crazy and I know that I will never get every badge in the game but I can try to do my best!😁
Did some quick maths based off the numbers in this video. Assuming they only do 2 kits per weapon (probably not, but idk), you're looking at somewhere around 10,000 hours.
@CurtisVito it's theoretically possible to wait until a lot of players have left the game to make it easier to grab. When splatoon 4 comes out, for instance, you can come back to this game and have a much smaller pool to compete with. Keep in mind that this is the inverse relationship with top % badges. The more players playing, the more players get to be in the top %. So those ones are generally easier the earlier in the game's life you do them as the players that leave a game tend to disproportionately be the worst ones.
For some perspective, I first started trying to 5 star Tri Noveau but stopped after getting tired of trigger spam. Then I switched to Octoshot and am en route to 5 star that weapon. I did a lot more turf war than anarchy with Tri Noveau where as I did a lot more anarchy than turf war with Octoshot. The result: I reached about the same amount of freshness points with 269 wins for Octoshot compared to 289 wins for Tri Noveau. So playing anarchy can definitely expedite the process, even though there have been times where I went on a 50 minute losing streak with some tough, close losses.
Even though it's slower, I just like grinding freshness in turf most of the time. Took me about 21 days from Sizzle season's start to get all the way to five stars with Big Swig Express. I'm assuming the absolute fastest you can get to five starts is 3 days of nonstop grinding? You'd have to truly be gifted in the art of KOs lol.
Turf War is actually the fastest way to grind Freshness since a Battle takes only 3 minutes and it's easier to win if you are good (see the calculation above your comment by @pkchiptune). I find the matchmaking of Anarchy to be so bad that many times it does not even matter how good you are. You can have long losing streaks in Anarchy due to being matched with teammates way below your rank while being Overall Splatter and Splat Assister each time. And if you do have a long winning streaks, you can be sure to encounter very good teams that have badges with green and silver X's (I have never encountered a golden X yet, which you get when you are a top 3 player in X rank), which are the best players that play solo.
I only have (as of now) one 5 star weapon and it’s Tri-Stringer. It took almost a full year because I only use it in Anarchy modes (because I feel like I’m throwing if I use it in Turf Wars) but I am and have been committed to the bow and got it around the end of July. Although I’ve been playing a lot of secondary Nautilus 47 and Ballpoint which are both around 4.5 stars but I have used them in both Turf, Anarchy, and even Splatfests during the current (sizzle) season
I'm a five star Hydra player, I don't really pick it up all to often any more, but everything I learned during that makes me the worst nightmare of most Hydra players I encounter
Just got a 5 star rating on my dark tetra dualies before I saw this video! I'm working on getting 5 stars for my 4 star N-zap next but I had no idea how I got Freshness points on it specifically other than "just play a lot". So now I know what those battle points are for, lol. Thanks for the video!
As someone who has a minimum of two stars on every weapon, this is a great video ..I also got 4 star all zip weapons. I thought that they’d only add Squiffer.. but then realized that the Side Order replicas and now I have 4 more weapons to do
That’s very interesting. I currently have 4 stars on my main weapon, the inkbrush, and I plan to 5 star it in the future. I’ll use what you talked about in this video to help me get there! Thanks!
I know it sounds insane and no one’s gonna believe me, but I’m trying to get ALL of the gold badges for all 55 base game weapons (yea, every single one) and even tho I’m on my 4th weapon that I’m getting to 4 stars first (I’m doing all the 4 stars and then 5 to get a feel of what it’s gonna be like), I still don’t understand how the entire thing works, so this really helped me! Thank you!!!
Cool video! Lays it out in a easy to understand format, idk why the game itself doesn't explain this much 😶 I did a few calculations on my own, and this is what I came up with. It's From best to worst, 1) Anarchy Win KO 2) Anarchy Win Time (67+ pts) 3) Turf Win 4) Turf Loss 5) Anarchy Lose Time 6) Anarchy Lose KO This is when the amount of objective points is held constant, and assuming you score 500p. So, KO-ing in anarchy always gives the most points, even if it takes a whole 4 minutes and 59 seconds to KO. What's tricky is that, winning Anarchy from Time running out is _not_ always better than winning in Turf. You get more raw points, but you have to remember that a full anarchy game takes longer than Turf. I'll put the calculations in a reply to this comment, since it's a bit complicated. But basically, you need to score 67 or more objective points to "break even" compared to turf. That means lowering your counter score down to 33. So there's a few more things to consider: • If you're specifically grinding to get 5 stars, don't bother with Anarchy unless you're confident you can win _and_ overcome this 67 point hurdle (which means the counter drops to 33). Playing in _Open_ with some friends is a good way to ensure this confidence, since u control your team comps that way, and can communicate. Playing in modes that your weapon dominates in (blaster -> tower), or (inkbrush -> clam blitz) is another good way to ensure that confidence. I get that it's kinda obvious advice, boiling down to "play in the best conditions to get 5 star faster". But it matters more than you might think, because just winning in anarchy isn't always good enough. It's actually kind of difficult to break even. ...well anyways, it's not the end of the world if you can't break even. It's still more efficient than losing in turf. I was just curious how the numbers worked out :D Calculation for 67 thing below:
So for the 67: A turf win with 500p inked is, 600 + 300 + 500p = 1400p. Over 3 minutes, that's 466.6 points per minute (PPM). An anarchy win due to time running out, with 500p inked, is 500 + 1500 + (5 * x), where x is the amount of objective points you score. To get 467 PPM, solve for x in: 500 + 1500 + (5 * x) / 5mins = 467. x equals 67 objective points 👍
This is literally the type of vid I was looking for. Assumed battle points were what was given to u but I wasn't certain. I have stamper 5 starred but I'm half way to getting light tetras 5 starred
Splatana Stamper is my only 5⭐️ weapon so far. My next closest weapons are Tri-Stringer and Ballpoint. It took me around two and half months to max out Stamper. Imo, I feel like the requirement to get 5⭐️s should be lower - at least get rid of the additional 160,000 pts from 1,160,000 pts and reduce it to 1,000,000 pts. This is coming from a person who doesn’t like grinding too much btw lol
This was really helpful for me as I didn't know how freshness worked, thank you! btw if it took you 2 months to get 5 stars on your dualie squelchers, how long did you play a day? because im trying to calculate it for myself as I try to get 5 stars with Enperry Splat Dualies
I don't know exactly how long I played on average but I usually tried to get 20k to 30k points a day when I could! So the time varied depending on how much I won/lost
I started playing June 15th of this year and I already have the N-Zap '85 5 starred, and the N-Zap '89 and S-Blast '92 4 starred. I almost exclusively play turf and salmon run 😅
Thank you, been trying to get 3 stars on ALL weapons but they keep adding more every season. Plus pausing the game for 2 month didn't help much. Anyways ty again.
I have 5 star Vanilla Splat Brella it took me about 5-ish months because at the beginning it was suffering from the Bugs & Kit is not suitable that’s why it took so long for me
I have yet to 5 star any weapon. Or even get halfway there. I got 4 stars on bamboozler mk2 day 1 of its release but I can't even get close to 5 stars. I've made a commitment to only play bamboozler mk2 for this season and haven't touched other weapons but I'm still under a quarter of the way to the top. I play a lot of salmon run and unfortunately that doesn't help at all. This game is so much more grindy than the previous games and it's pretty frustrating.
So, you're telling me that if I want to get every weapon currently in Splatoon 3 to 5 stars, I would need to log 50 days worth of non-stop K.O win grinding in series to reach that goal?
I've got 52 gal., e liter scoped, and my aero spray rg to 4 stars. I only want my rg to 5 star for now then the golden dynamo. I've started to get 1.8k games in turf war because I thought the points inked translated to the freshness 😔
very good video for me it took like 6 months to get 5 stars on krak on roller because i was playing like 3-4 hours per day with krak on roller, why dod i subject myself to torture to get 5 stars? idk lol
you didnt mention this but exp tickets do not effect weapon freshness if you get a knockout with a 2x exp ticket and get 5000 exp, you'll still only get 2500 points for your weapon freshness
OMG thanks, i toughts points were how many did you paint in the game... That's why when i was fighting someone with 2 badges 5 stars of E-liter scope and unscope, i was like "Bro How many hours did you have in the game!!! 🤣" So my main is nautilus, and i don't have 5 stars on this weapon, i'm only at 500 000 - 600 000 points, i don't remember the exact number. I tryhard to level up my freshness but it's difficult but i think it's because i have 4 star on spaltdualies, ballpoint, splatana deco and dynamo too 😂, it's very difficult for me to focus on 1 weapon, i always change, that's why i play 52'gal, n zap, S blaters, Range blaster, carbon deco, and heavy deco too. And when i saw the trailer, i was like, omg the new splatling will become my new main, kit is soo cool And i have a question, did you know if title for banner depends of what weapon you play more? Because my first title was "Nautilus user" so idk if i had chance.
I'm starting to get a bit bored of Splatoon, especially after finishing 5 star Napples (which makes 2), the weapons I play are all Reefslider weapons, and I'm starting to wonder if I can even play a non-Reefslider weapon. I realized that, truthfully, if I wanna finish what I started... weapon freshness, and patience, are my new best friends... First stop, Dark Tetra Dualies... Then, Undercover Brella... Then S-Blast... Finally... Dread Wringer...
Ill probably get hate for this but i actually try to just get around 2-3 stars for all my weapons cause i like being a well-round weapon type of player
Once Kensa Octobrush comes back, I can and WILL get 5 stars on every Octobrush Is it a good idea? No Do I care that it's not a good idea? ALSO NO!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Whenever I see someone on the other team with 3 golden weapon badges, they scare me

Cool video! Lays it out in a easy to understand format, idk why the game itself doesn't explain this much 😶
I did a few calculations on my own, and this is what I came up with. It's From best to worst,
1) Anarchy Win KO
2) Anarchy Win Time (67+ pts)
3) Turf Win
4) Turf Loss
5) Anarchy Lose Time
6) Anarchy Lose KO
This is when the amount of objective points is held constant, and assuming you score 500p.
So there's a few more things to consider:
• If you're specifically grinding to get 5 stars, don't bother with Anarchy unless you're confident you can win _and_ overcome this 67 point hurdle (which means the counter drops to 33).
I was just curious how the numbers worked out :D
Calculation for 67 thing below:
So for the 67:
A turf win with 500p inked is, 600 + 300 + 500p = 1400p.

You wanted a JPEG for your splash tag? I'm getting one for every brella.
Help
the sheer menacing aura of someone who rolls up with a 5 star badge on their splashtag for every brella in the game
Congrats for 1k !!! 🎉🎉🎉
Ty 🫶
Very cool thanks!
The funny thing is that I was looking for a video like this a week ago 😅
I've already got the ballpoint 5☆ and very much looking forward to grinding ballpoint nouveau as soon as it releases so this video is perfectly timed😭
This is super helpful thanks you! I always thought it was paint lol
Yea I remember getting 5 stars on vanilla slosher and blob 100 hours on those weapons is painful but at least I got the badge
I started playing June 15th of this year and I already have the N-Zap '85 5 starred, and the N-Zap '89 and S-Blast '92 4 starred. I almost exclusively play turf and salmon run 😅
Would you ever upload any gameplay? It’s sooo difficult to find dualie squelchers gameplay and I crave to see the ingenuity of other DS mains.
I currently can't really make gameplay videos but I definitely will when I can!
@@mossyquartzz okay awesome! Thank you 😊
Hey I'm your 1000th sub :D congrats!!
I'm on the grind to 5* CDS myself so this helped a lot
Thank you sm! Good luck with CDS
I will 5 star all the brushes (but Orderbrush) and this will help me a lot
The devs are in a roll with the weapon balancing and glad the game is still growing and getting better
Thank you, been trying to get 3 stars on ALL weapons but they keep adding more every season. Plus pausing the game for 2 month didn't help much. Anyways ty again.
I just looked it up last night trying to figure out why some points weren't counting in a splat zones. I thought it was just paint amounts
I have 5 star Vanilla Splat Brella it took me about 5-ish months because at the beginning it was suffering from the Bugs & Kit is not suitable that’s why it took so long for me
I’m happy I found you channel
Seems like the only reward from freshness that's Worth it are the Sheldon licenses
Both of my Zaps are max freshness, there's a certain level of pride in having those badges
i have the first badges for like 7 weapons and i’ve been trying for a while to get the gold mini splatling 😭
I wish Salmon Run helped out with weapon freshness just a tad bit.....or player level for that matter
See I never dedicate to one weapon so i have like a crap ton of 4 star weapons 🤣
oh I'm quite close with my og splatter shot yay I'm at 4 stars rn
Thanks for the informative video. Also the way you speak reminds me a lot of nicobbq
I 5 stared inkbrush and am around 50% of the way there with both big swigs
So, you're telling me that if I want to get every weapon currently in Splatoon 3 to 5 stars, I would need to log 50 days worth of non-stop K.O win grinding in series to reach that goal?
I've got 52 gal., e liter scoped, and my aero spray rg to 4 stars. I only want my rg to 5 star for now then the golden dynamo. I've started to get 1.8k games in turf war because I thought the points inked translated to the freshness 😔
5* vanilla dynamo user here, before buff, one word to express my grinding: PAIN
You're a warrior fr 🫡
I had to 5* CDS before the chump buff and it was also very painful :')
@@mossyquartzz we are ALL Warriors honestly hahahaha
Oh... So it takes only 2 months just to five star a weapon? Oh... I thought it takes longer then that.
very good video for me it took like 6 months to get 5 stars on krak on roller because i was playing like 3-4 hours per day with krak on roller, why dod i subject myself to torture to get 5 stars? idk lol
Does xp food affect this at all?
No it does not! XP food only affects your level
you didnt mention this but exp tickets do not effect weapon freshness
if you get a knockout with a 2x exp ticket and get 5000 exp, you'll still only get 2500 points for your weapon freshness
Where was this video when I started playing splatoon 3.
I only have one, but I need more
OMG thanks, i toughts points were how many did you paint in the game... That's why when i was fighting someone with 2 badges 5 stars of E-liter scope and unscope, i was like "Bro How many hours did you have in the game!!! 🤣"
So my main is nautilus, and i don't have 5 stars on this weapon, i'm only at 500 000 - 600 000 points, i don't remember the exact number. And when i saw the trailer, i was like, omg the new splatling will become my new main, kit is soo cool
And i have a question, did you know if title for banner depends of what weapon you play more? Because my first title was "Nautilus user" so idk if i had chance.
Tbf the extra bonus for 1000 points makes sense to not exist because I average 1200 points every game with almost all my mains
I got 5 stars on Tri-Stringer just yesterday
i got 5 stars on reef-lux 450!! i love my silly bow and arrow
dualie squelchers W
how youy know freshness it at?
I'm starting to get a bit bored of Splatoon, especially after finishing 5 star Napples (which makes 2), the weapons I play are all Reefslider weapons, and I'm starting to wonder if I can even play a non-Reefslider weapon. I realized that, truthfully, if I wanna finish what I started... weapon freshness, and patience, are my new best friends...
First stop, Dark Tetra Dualies...
Then, Undercover Brella...
Then S-Blast...
Finally... Dread Wringer...
Ill probably get hate for this but i actually try to just get around 2-3 stars for all my weapons cause i like being a well-round weapon type of player
i have 4 weapons on five stars and 15 weapons at 4 stars
Woah that's crazy, congrats! How many hours do you have?
@@mossyquartzz around 1150
😮😮😮
Same for me but without the 5* 💀
Can you lose weapon freshness ?
No, once you got the points they're there forever
@@mossyquartzz thanks
What if a match lasts 6+ minutes?
Once Kensa Octobrush comes back, I can and WILL get 5 stars on every Octobrush
Is it a good idea? No
Do I care that it's not a good idea? ALSO NO!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Doesn't help to get to any level if you mainly play Salmon Run. I'm nearly getting to 5 stars on Bloblobber I've played since release day.
Well the vast majority of people really don't play salmon run
I just want the 5 star Jr so I can stop playing it at this point
I’m at over 900k so I WILL finish
What's with the super chumps hate? 😭
