Thank you so much for this in depth gear guide, Toyoben! I will definitely refer back to this in the future and send this to my friends if they ask about it. Wish you all the best!
I just joined my college’s competitive team and I was trying to form some general gear ideas to share but I came across this video and it is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I learned so much myself and thank you for taking the (probably many hours) to make this!
I have a quick question, and I'd greatly appreciate it if you can answer it for me cuz I don't know jack about Splatoon. In Splatoon 3, how many weapons and abilities can your Inkling have at once?
@@TwiMil2008 you can only have one weapon in a match per player. abilities are a bit more complicated, but you can probably find a "what is Splatoon gear" guide very quickly. But basically there are 3 pieces of gear you can wear. Each has a main ability slot, and 3 sub ability slots. Any ability can go in each. So you can technically have 3.9 total (main.sub) of one ability alone.

4:4111:43 You can use sub power while using undercover due to when setting it up, it can allow it to help it with fights, on top of the larger 35 damage hit box allows undercover to 2 shot from decent range
Main ink saver on some ink-efficient weapons can be useful just because of how absurdly long you can fire them. I run 4 subs of main ink saver and ink recovery on splattershot jr, and it's like playing an eternal sprinkler with bombs!
Toyoben: Makes comphrehensive and detailed guide for players everywhere to better understand and play the game. Me: Haha Max Swim Speed Max InkRes Dualies go brrrrrr
heavily disagree with the undercover brella abilities tbh...ignoring ink mines on the kit past two subs of sub saver (when 2s ink recovery lets you use two mines from full near-instantly, plus how fast ucb can start recovering ink on its own) and not capitalizing on their assist potential (good for repairing your shield) is a missed opportunity. they even combo relatively well with reefslider's far explosion, which, with the special power up the build in the video has, should be easier to pull off. i don't think you need special charge on it at all, and that space on the build would be better off being put towards either Run Speed or Sub Power Up.
Awesome video! I definitely appreciate the dedication that went into this video, dspecially covering almost every single weapon in the entire game. Also, this is a small little note but I personally use Ink Saver Sub with the Gloogas as well as Ink Saver Main. It enables you to throw more Splash Walls and take more space without needing a lot of paint, which is something I think the weapon struggles with sometimes.
I swear, unless I missed it completely, the game NEEDS to mention at some point that sub abilities are less powerful than mains. I got into the series back in July, and I swear I went 80+ hours thinking mains and subs were equal.
I tend to use Object Shredder (OS) on supportive shooters that lack damage but fire rapidly (such as Splash-o-matic and N-ZAP). However, this prevents one from using Stealth Jump (SJ) since both OS and SJ are main abilities for footwear. The removal of Ink Armor as a special weapon (still briefly present during respawn and during a squid roll) reduces the use of OS, but having OS for Rainmaker is still valuable if popping the Rainmaker shield more quickly is still useful.
9:48 in my experience with wiper (I have 5 stars on this weapon) 27-30 AP of QR is what i usually aim for. Comeback and Stealth Jump are essential, so you have to decide between Utility Subs or Haunt. I usually pick the subs but that’s just personal preference
Is this why you appeared in all weapon catagorys? Also its nice to actually see some sorta helpful gear ability video so i can think about flex more than retreating back to the 2 weapons i see consistancy with being Slosher, Range Blaster, and Carbon Roller Deco
Do you mean optimal colour chips for all the side order weapons? Because if you want to ask what gear to use on the min multiplayer you can just copy the gear of the normal weapon since they're just a reskin. (Splattershot -> Ordershot)
I've found that Opening Gambit, Swim Speed, and Ink Refill give the Heavy Edit a big boost in getting an early-game advantage. I should definitely see about getting more special recharge on my HE loadout though.
I’m curious if you are going to make this video again but add the Chill Season 2023 weapons and what abilities they should have. Because I’m curious as to what you would think be good for weapons like the Foil Squeezer and the Undercover Sorella Brella.
I don't plan on doing full videos for every new update but maybe I'll do a short. If you need ideas for builds or want to see what top player use just check out Sendou.ink
I really like ur videos but i really dont think this one is it chief. a lot of the ability rundowns are short to the point of being reductive. For example, ink resistance does way more than just add buffer frames, it significantly improves mobility in enemy ink, and reduces dps of enemy ink. Swim speed is useful for way more than what you mentioned, it helps you rotate and avoid threats faster. Ink recovery you could have at least said is good for lower cost sub weapons, and invests in both main and sub at the same time. You also forgot about object shredder, and said you need 2 subs of sub resistance to stop those combos, when you only need 1. I think trying to give such fast ability recommendations for every weapon sends a bad message of there just being 1 objectively best way to build around a weapon, even tho that depends on mode, team composition, rotation, meta, whether its solo or comp, and personal preference. There's also a lot of weapons that just have multiple very good build styles one can make that all do very different things
Doing gods work for the ranked community. I've been using Heavy Deco since release, I've been using pure gears of Run speed, Main saver and ink recovery been working really good i most likely won't change gear since I don't have really any mixed gear yet but this is still really good to know I'm really close to 5star anyway so I'll probably take a big break after that anyway. On the topic of abilities cam anyone tell me what abilities work well with Tenacity,LDE,RP,SJ,OS and Drop roller their the only main abilities I don't have sets for. I have been thinking of getting charge up with tenacity but idk if it would stack with the extra passive charge.
Doesn't matter too much since Undercover is shit either way, but the weapon benefits a lot from roughly 2 mains of Run Speed since it likes to strafe a lot, as well as 3 subs/1 main of Sub Power Up to make mines bigger, as baiting people into them is one of your main fighting tools.
The dude from squidschool says gear is totally irrelevant. It doesnt affect if you win or lose a game. I disagree on that. Good video for people who are not die hard splatoon comp players. Keep it going!.
Quite interesting choices for the HES, it's true that Run Speed Up is very good with it, even with only 2 main ones btw. However, I preferred to put Intensify Action on the mine instead of SCU, for accuracy. But hey I'm keeping the idea for Sub Resistance Up, it's quite interesting. ⚓
What about the inkling stringer, I really like the weapon, but I generally suck at gear building, also, is thermal a good choice for it due to the chip damage
Thermal is alright on stringers though there's going to be matches where it feels like you get a lot of benefit from while others feel like you barely get any use out of it. Also keep in mind it will only take effect on people you hit directly with one or more of the arrows not the explosion. Other then that the recent buff to explosion damage means you are more likely to combo with you directs and other sources of chip damage for a splat and get less use out of Thermal. As for other abilities OS and run speed are good on it with a few subs of swim and main saver. You can try special charge if you like but personally I don't find it as useful as just running more run or swim speed. Edit: LDE is also good if you really want to minimize your downtime.
Thermal is good for stringer! Even if you can't kill or follow up on a shot, you can still track your opponents for a bit so you know where to expect them, which is one of the main jobs of a backline weapon. A lot of frontline weapons like to try to sneak onto backline weapons, so at least being aware of where an opponent is or where they're going can heavily influence your own gameplay so you don't get into a disadvantageous situation
Nice vid but i mostly run a lot of utility subs on all of my sets bc they feel a lot smoother imo. As for squeezer i dont run runspeed up bc it doesnt make much of a difference. I run lde and ink rec and main saver as mains. 2 subs of swim speed, 2 of super jump and sub power up, then one spec saver, inc res and sub res. This worked best for me so far.
Now that we know Heavy Edit has the same run speed as a Mini and the range of a Naut, is your speculation build still optimal or this there something to reconsider?
I am a goo tuber main, do NOT listen to this, there are so many better gear options that offer much better benefits to the vanilla goo tuber. Id actually reccomend running more swim speed. Goo tuber is already fine at painting, and there is no need for that much special charge up. If you want to actually learn how to play vgoo for the main weapon, do not listen to this guide thanks!! For the custom goo tuber gear id reccomend trashing the 3 subs of quick super jump, its not often you're going to get into a bad position with ultra stamp active, and its just a failsafe for an extremely unlikely occurance. Id reccomend running ink recovery, swim speed, or quick respawm for a much easier time getting back into the battle. Especially if you know how to use the ultra stamp, you will never be in abad spot with it, and still be providing for your team by throwing the hammer. I also run opening gambit on cgoo, but last ditch effort is also good. (The reason I run OG is because I play hyper agressive dont judge me)
the point of the video was to provide an easy build for the new players that like to spam questions like "what build for clash blaster neo" in youtube comments. not the best build for every weapon for every playstyle for every skill level.
Yes but there needs to be a basic understanding of each weapon's strengths and how to use gear abilities to enhance that. I never play goo tuber but even I understand and agree with the above comment; goo tuber plays a close range sniper and its main gimmick is being able to hold a charge for more than 10 seconds while swimming, so it would make sense to run QR (due to playing so close range you have a high likelihood of dying without killing anyone) and swim speed for that charge hold. Using qsj doesn't try to apply the goo tuber's main gimmicks at all.
I know JP scene is different from NA but.... that much qr on Dynamo? I've mained the weapon since 2016 and I've only run into other dynamo players who use that build a handful of times. I personally use Ink Saver and Swim Speed the most, with some special power/charge when playing vanilla. Good vid for a general overview but... idk about some of the sets being shown haha (then again I play mini and L3d for ultra stamp soooo.... do what makes you happy!)
Reminder that this video is already 6 months old and metas are evolving all the time. Dynamo has become slightly more viable and now usually gets played more with special power and charge up
I have my Heavy Splatling build more on survivability. 2 main Ink Resistence, at least 1 main Run Speedup and multiple subs of Sub Defence. I don't jump with the Heavy Splatling, so zero Intensify Action.
