Funcom: We want players to stop spamming fish traps. So we made some tweaks so you you now have to spam fish traps AND compost bins. Mission successful.
We want to make the game as unrealistic as possible. Fish now go bad in a few minutes where real fish in a trap are fine for about a week, if there is still food in the trap they are good for much longer, but meh.
Didn't know you could get a perfected padding by dismantling the dropped armors. This is a very helpful info and greatly decreases the amount of oil needed! Thanks!
You can also press the generic seeds you use to make gruel, not a lot of people know and if you can’t be bothered waiting for hours for the fish and grubs you can quickly gather some seeds with a sickle and press them for oil.
I do a three-tier approach. I let the compost heaps do their thing and start accumulating grubs, while I go and use the sickle on as much vegetation as I can, getting as many seeds and insects as possible. The seeds go into the fluid press, the insects into the traps, and usually, by the time the insects have processed, the grubs will be ready. If you go hard at that process for a few days of game time, you can spool up a fair amount of oil. It's more grind-intensive than before, but provided that you're not trying to put a whole army of thralls into epic armor, it's not an endless grind.
It's highly recommend to just farm lots of insects. Players need huge amount of fiber anyway. The normal seeds can be dropped into the fluiod press for additional oil.
he has a bad way to get grubs, my way is much better, in the end i spend much less time processing grubs and fish to get the same amount of oil I have to spend about 5x more time farming grass for seeds and bugs.
I find that you need a lot of plant mats for a number of things so I harvest that get a lot of insects and seeds. The insects go in the fish traps the seeds go in the fluid press. I can get bears quite easily and dues to these changes, they are hard to feed anything except honey because of the difficulty in harvesting fish and shellfish.
Thanks for the tip about farming the Mounds and dismantling Cimmerian armor! I made a quick run-through last night which turned into a fairly profitable trip for armor padding. I even got a few oil and hardened leather drops from NPCs. Just need 30 more hardened leather (150 oil *cry*) before my horse can have a pretty saddlle.
Dunno if Firespark has done an update on this yet, but in 3.0 you need at least a T3 alchemist on an Improved alchemy bench and you can make Oil with ichor and bark.
Oh btw, grubs can stack up to 50 in a compost bin before they stop accruing. I don't know if they've been dinking with the rates or what but when I first started just a month ago I would commonly find 49 in the compost bin outside my house that I paid very little attention to (because frankly then you didn't need to)
Firespark, I love your videos my friend. I am relatively new to Conan Exiles (I've dabbled a little here and there since it first came out), and I have learned a lot from your guides. There are lots of things you talk about that I don't REALLY understand yet, but I was hoping that you'd do another back to basics to include the new changes. I know i'm not the only newish player joining the Conan Exiles Community, so I'm sure there are others who would benefit greatly from an episodic adventure through both Exiled Lands and Siptah! Either way, keep up the great work, and I look forward to your next video!
Yep, and if you just sickle plants instead of spamming ugly, lag-inducing compost bins you get bugs for fish traps + seeds for the press/gruel + fiber for gruel/twine/spice and whatever else.
So they finally fixed the bug, also if you use a sickle on plants to get bugs for the fish traps, the seeds can be put into the press as well and the plant fiber can be put into the dryer to make seeds, and then put into the press for oil, I know it's a lot of work but if you NEED a lot of oil for your clan this can give you an almost constant trickle of it. Depends on where you make your base really.
This works. But it takes absolutely forever. Between how long it takes to dry the fiber and how many seeds it takes (15 per 1 oil). Any significant amount of oil is going to take much too long to lean on this method. If you just need a few for weapon upgrade kits or something. It's a nice passive method. But making suits of Epic armor from scratch? It's going to take tens of thousands of seeds, Thousands of bark and countless drying hours to kit out a base full of thralls and yourself.
Composts are an immense waste of space. You get way better results by using a hatchet on bushes. By using a hatchet you get ONLY bugs. Bugs are just as effective in your fish traps as grubs and takes less time to get a hundred stack.
Awesome tips. Stacking bins is way more interesting. 1. Leave base for like 5-10 mins. Grubs decay more slowly when out of render (or something like that) = 50 with 1 compost. *caution* 2. Fish Traps are hard maxed at 5 slots (for some reason), meaning if you put more than 2 stacks of insects in a fish trap they will despawn any stacks created beyond the 5th slot. More compost per bin equals more grubs spawning.
@@Firespark81 from what I can tell. each grub decays in like 1 min in the compost bin, but when out of render this timer is suspended and the grubs begin to build up but cap at 50. You can get exotic fish from “handful of insects” as well, that being said, you’re way better off taking a sickle and just going ham on the dried out bushes. The fat grubs for whatever reason expire in 30 seconds after they’re created and getting lots of putrid meat is a major pain
Good video Firespark, very informative. The server I'm on you can not have fish traps unless you are right on the water, but you are allowed a main and a secondary, smaller base, so I built "Camp Firespark" the fish farm. :D All those flies buzzing around is kind of disconcerting though. :D

Did a few bugs in them traps. but it takes to long to wait for. but also... fish rots fast too! I put the insects in before going to bed. the next morning everything was rotten. so it is possible more productive to just farm seeds and press those for oil?!
Only if you have so little play time that you can't start your day by setting your fish traps and then check them an hour later, otherwise fishing takes much less time for the same oil.
The oil grind is real ... and a lot of things are unclear now. Like what do Tanners and Smelters do now? The different stations took away their only function unless I am missing something. Will have to experiment, but busy scrambling for oil after a reboot.
Is the grubs in the fish traps a new thing? (I haven't played in a long while) Used to when i was playing on the exiled lands, I'd just lay a fish tap down and fish automatically filled it. No need for grubs.
The only right way to get oil now a days is with a Named Alchemist in the beautiful alchemist bench (speed): 1 Ichor + 1 Bark = 5 oil. this is easily farmed. few spiders + a few bark trees and you get about 50k oil in less than an hour on relaxed farming. doable in 20 min but that's stressful!
Might be a PC change but the bark and ichor recipe on PS4 is on the witch doctor and it does need to be on a firebowl Edit. So yea ps4 is diffent as the rates for oil for exotic fish and unappetizing fish is inverted
@@Hakaishin_birusu I mean.. it's 15 seeds per 1 oil if I'm not mistaken. Depending on the server, that's going to take a while for big tasks sure.. but in a pinch and with a good sickle it's pretty fast if you just need that one thing crafted real fast.
The conversion of ichor and bark to oil in the alchemist bench is really good, it’s one ichor and one bark for 5 oil.I have a T3 alchemist in my alchemist bench and that has given me the blueprint to craft oil, but I do think you can have a lower tier alchemist and still get the blueprint for oil.
I don't get the padding by dismantling the armor. And I have the epic tool repair kits, they don't work either. So it's collecting fish again. Oil is the hardest material to come by. I rather trade with oil than with gold.
I find it easier to just farm hardened leather from npc camps. As for Isle, the floating boxes near the southern lighthouse, further south and in the water next to an npc camp, gives an insane amount of materials. These boxes respawn every time you relog in single player, and every few minutes when that section is not loaded in in multiplayer. The rewards are random (I got about 500 hardened brick when trying to get gravedigger,) but there are plenty of real chests in that camp too that can be farmed. In general npc chests are a lot faster for this sort of thing.
they do not disappear. that said i would highly recommend stocking up on Oil, hardened leather, and weapon/tool/armor modifications if you think you'll need any of it. who knows how long before anything is fixed, or if this is just our lives now.
15 : 1 oil? nah, fish much faster, don't waste seeds, might as well put them in there but for that to be how you get all your oil? you would spend 5x longer mowing the lawn compared to fishing, just fishing a lot of the time is passive.
Hi Firespark. This is totally unrelated, but I was playing with a friend earlier and placing the new stuff. I noticed that the new carpenters bench doesn't make insulated wood, only the old ones..is that a bug or is that also tied to a T4 thrall? My thanks in advance, keep up the good work, love your vids 👍
Best way I have found to get insects for fish traps is just to use the pickaxe or hatchet on bushes and you will only get handfulls of insects and plenty of fish

@@googanmcboogie9307 dont feel like that :) they changed so much, im confused too sometimes. Tested it yesterday with coal, was hoping it gives a bit oil... but meh. Still running around with light armor or the basic armors. I don‘t like the oil grind. Grubs seem to be easy fish food, but the chance to get the good fish doesn‘t seem high, its a nice way to passive farm fish tho 😂 Can also farm them very nice in north jungle. Turned seen we have to use bait solely to get fish now. This is very annoying news. Getting it be some what nice if the grub in the compost box went higher then 4. God this is tedious. Used oil for fuel and it was a huge time saver because I didn’t actively have to farm coal or something other. This was huge nerd, especially for solo players.
@@Michael-jx9bh I watch Wac's videos as well but I don't recall him testing the kiln. I just went through his videos real quick but unfortunately couldn't figure which video u r talking about
I would use insects instead. If you farm then via plant fibers, you will get so many seeds which you can press to oil as well. its 15:1 but you will get alot
This method is superior for a number of reasons: Grubs auto-generate as long as you have one compost in the box, so it requires no actions on your part to gather. You can place the boxes next to the fish traps, so you don't even need to run around grabbing them. Fat grubs give you "Tier 2 fishing" odds (Icon is Savory Fish) vs. Insects are "Tier 1" (Unsavory Fish) which means greater odds for Exotic Fish. (Exotic Fish are 1:1 Oil, whereas Savory are 5:1 and Unsavory 10:1) And Fat Grubs stack to 50, which is almost exactly the amount of time necessary for the first fish you caught to start rotting, so it's quick and easy to drop one stack of grubs into a fish trap without splitting and not worry about spoilage before you press them. I came upon this method on my own, and using 8 traps with8-10 compost boxes I can keep them running nonstop for ~125-150 oil per cycle. Then I have a preservation box for saving extra grubs if the boxes are full at 50.
It must be a bug, since you cant even craft iron or steel reinforcements on the new blacksmith's. Nor can you craft insulated wood on the new carpenter benches.
Steel and Iron reinforcements must be crafted at the 1st or 2nd tier smith, NOT the grandmaster ones. Dry wood in the drying rack, then place that in the improved carp, again not the grandmaster, to make insulated shaped wood. These things are not bugs, they remastered the crafting to make each trade seem more important and require more learning and understanding to manage the new benches. As you may have noticed aswell, tanners now make all the thick fur and layered silks ect... Immersion an RP seems was the goal here. Why would your Grand master Black Smith waste his time cranking out trivial reinforcements?? Ya know? All good changes IMO.
@@D.M.Transcendent the T3 carpenter's bench has the recipe for shaped wood and not insulated wood (or did, it has now been changed to include both) which invalidates your argument. Requiring a lower-tier bench to craft necessities is a pointless overcomplication.

The oil grind is real ... and a lot of things are unclear now. Like what do Tanners and Smelters do now? The different stations took away their only function unless I am missing something. Will have to experiment, but busy scrambling for oil after a reboot.
Is the grubs in the fish traps a new thing? (I haven't played in a long while)
Used to when i was playing on the exiled lands, I'd just lay a fish tap down and fish automatically filled it.
You saved my life and time man, thanks a lot!
which one is the beautiful alchemist bench? the improved or the precision alchemist bench?
@@Robinss0n Trade is crafting speed.
Might be a PC change but the bark and ichor recipe on PS4 is on the witch doctor and it does need to be on a firebowl
Edit. So yea ps4 is diffent as the rates for oil for exotic fish and unappetizing fish is inverted
Have you tried with the Witch doctor?
You can get oil from seeds using press!!!
Think this was before that recipe was added.
Anything changed for this oil? The fish does not give oil only the one for one.
farm 'seeds" put em in a fluid press, a lot easier, if its unlocked for u?
press seeds they give oil
You didn't need to have a purge thrall. I had the basic T4 alchomest at the summoning place and it would be able to make oil.
Do the armours still give heavy padding when put into the dismantling bench?
I don't think so... just tried it and did not get the padding.
yea i hate the new "crafting" of fish i used to just come back after a while and have a bunch of free fish
Any idea of when the expansion will hit consoles. I currently have chests full of oil do they disappear when you load the expansion?
they do not disappear. that said i would highly recommend stocking up on Oil, hardened leather, and weapon/tool/armor modifications if you think you'll need any of it. who knows how long before anything is fixed, or if this is just our lives now.
Also load up on some consolident. Like as much oil and cosolident as you can get.
@FireSpark, did you already got a answer, if it is a bug, no oil with the alchemist?
I have t4 alchy thrall in my basic booty chems bench and that 1;1 bark ichor recipe does pop up now :)
You need more compost in a heap, mine has 11 and I get 49-50 grubs each time I check.
Seeds in Fluid press?
Yep.
15 : 1 oil? nah, fish much faster, don't waste seeds, might as well put them in there but for that to be how you get all your oil? you would spend 5x longer mowing the lawn compared to fishing, just fishing a lot of the time is passive.
Shouldn't put all the fish in the press at once, they will rot if you have lots of fish.
Make more than one.
I have 10 presses for 20 fish traps, very very little is rotted
Hi Firespark. This is totally unrelated, but I was playing with a friend earlier and placing the new stuff. I noticed that the new carpenters bench doesn't make insulated wood, only the old ones..is that a bug or is that also tied to a T4 thrall?
My thanks in advance, keep up the good work, love your vids 👍
Thanks Firespark I was wondering how it was after the change
T3 thrall gives oil now
Best way I have found to get insects for fish traps is just to use the pickaxe or hatchet on bushes and you will only get handfulls of insects and plenty of fish
I can craft oil with a Hyrkanian Alchemist level 3 in improved alchemist bench
I love you 😍
@@HellfireStevooo I have checked some more and I think they just fixed it and all T3 have the recipe
where to find that at in exile lands
can you do this video for isle of siptah please
hmm, on workbench update day 1. I pressed all my fishes I got 10 oil per 1 exotic fish that day. that was kind off nice 1000 oil per stack.
You could make oil in the fluid press with seeds and fish I believe. Well thats just in ps4 rn.
seeds are 15:1 fish are 10 5 and 1:1 so yes you can throw extra seeds in there but the ratio is trash.
@@Firespark81 it is a trash ratio. I agree but still another way if someone has lots of seeds.
been watching alot of conan exile players explain how to get materials and they never get to the point or they go off topic to later show me common way to obtain mats lol 😮💨
So I am guessing putting coal in the press will not give oil anymore?
25 coal = 1 tar
@@Provokatze23 probably easier than messing with fish traps
Tar not oil :/
@@Provokatze23 yeah. I feel stupid now.
Gives around 17 grubs with a starmetal pickaxe. Tried to connect this new type of ‚bug hunt‘ with sobek cave - to get sobek armor - but its pretty rough with ...basic gear and bad outfitted thrall :/ Looking forward that they add the alchy table recipe soon. :)
Just what I want to...work harder. *eye-roll* "Funcom - taking the Fun out of everything" Maybe they should be called Grindcom ?
Oh no, you need bait now... So grindy...
We can craft it on siptah.
Level 3 stygian alch on upgraded alchbench.
Thanks man very helpful
the recipe bug got fixed, works with t3 now as well
My ocd is giving me aneurysms
FireSpark81 plz compare the kiln to the other furnaces (speed, cost, and capacity)
its on the list :)
@@Firespark81 Thanks :D
@@aDNAn.995 Ehm, Wak4863 has done that for this patch - on testlive though. About a week ago, I think. Sorry don't remember the name of video.
@@Michael-jx9bh I watch Wac's videos as well but I don't recall him testing the kiln. I just went through his videos real quick but unfortunately couldn't figure which video u r talking about
Whats the best way to get Ichor now?
Spiders with a pick axe.
There's the caves near the Black Hand camps (Deathwhisper Ruins) full of spiders and you get a ton of ichor harvesting them.
the red lizards by the rivers, and the giant krickets (reepers), give a lot too
Why dont you just put a bunch of seeds in the fluid press...?
because the ration is trash at 15 to one at least with two of the fish its 1:1 and 5:1
I hope you don't use seeds for oil.
Might be trash ratios but hella exp. from seeds vs fish.
@@mr_bbaggins5698 I dont farm xp from fish lol
Not saying don't do it. Just saying fish gets more with less work. It's 90% afk.
This patch is literally the worst patch yet.
Seeds in the fluid press gives you oil.
Liar 😔
you amazing i love your videos ❤❤❤
@@D.M.Transcendent This is wrong. They did a hot fix and fixed it for all T3. Except for the oil recipe ofc.
@@paulliu9893 Right or wrong, its what i was seeing at the time. More like dated info. I'm not a Dev or anything. simply a gamer like yourselves, expressing whats going on in the game as we have been experiencing. Thanks for the heads up on the changes.
@@rshackleton Fantastic... So whats going on here? They pretty much are just making more work to get to the items we already made before when T2 benches were the top tier? Only they forgot to program a bunch of the item recipes before launch and are trickling them in as we speak...Because at the time, my above statement was true. Hmmm, if thats the case, which it seem to be, then yeah, im starting to side with the people calling this the worst patch ever... :(
For some reason my game might be bugged or something cuz mine doesnt let me press the fish for oil
it's high amounts of fish for one oil
not really looking forward to having 20 crafting tables
What foundation is that?
I’ve never seen it in game
Must be a dlc
stormglass, from the island of siptah dlc
you can also get oil from the conifer tree seeds
Any and all seeds in the press will give you oil in the req'd quantity.
Seeds, easiest and cheapest way by far. Especially if your build isn't by water.
I just use insects. Can always use fiber.
Yeah, because programming is hard and content creating even harder let's just gate the existing content by making getting materials super grindy and slow. This "economy" update was the worst in whole Conan Exiles history.
They hold 50 grubs Firespark.
is this still valid in 2021?
Good question lol
Yes. I have 40 and it gives about ?600¿ oil. No upkeep but set up and when you get back from adventure, you can just go to your pond and set everything to tick again.
i can really see where this update is heading and even more how the other two economic updates will head.. grind grind grind.. every thing takes longer and/or need more to craft. i know what they try to do and that it is to limit build spam.. and i don't like it.. i mainly build on Conan and i already find it a bit to grindy and start playing less, but liked official servers.. i don't know.. i get why they do it but for me it will probably means i have to move to a unofficial server.
ps. and yes so much bugs in this update.. real simple onces as well.. they really pushed it to live to fast.. for exaple.. did you know you can't make iron and steel reinforcements in the new smith? you need to lower tier to make it, but that takes for ever.. on official im already 3 days in for about 6000 steel reinforcements :S
what? i didnt get any padding through dismantling bench? oh maybe because of the added mods on the server.. ugh
effing awesome content man ty
Clap , amazing video!!
Bugs work better than grubs. They give you a bunch more blue fish. 15 traps, bugs in each one each time. I do this like once a week. I run everything on oil so I don't need coal. I never run out of oil.
Actually grubs are better because they have a higher chance to give you exotic fish which is 1:1 handful of insects is actually the worst bate it's insects grubs bees quee bee.
Guessing you are a console player. With the PC update, now the exotic fish are the ones that give oil on a 1:1 not the blue(unappetizing) fish.
@@Firespark81 on ps4 blue fish are a 1:1 so I always throw insects in the fish traps. Easy hundreds of oil
@@O-D-X wow, I had no idea they were different! Wonder why?
@@StormBlase It will be that way only until you get the update we got on PC. They changed everything to do with Fish Traps and baiting and what resources you get from fish. So enjoy it and stock up on oil while you can.
