Thank you so much for your video. The instructions were poorly written and in teeny print! Your video helped a lot. I have a 75 gallon and have gone through two Fluvals. Tiny pieces constantly broke on the Fluvals and then they stop working completely and they are expensive units. I thought I'd try this one because it got great reviews. My feeling is if I have to buy one a year the price is fine for that. I hope I don't have to but I'm sure tired of spending a lot of money on filters!! Fingers crossed on this one and thank you again.
sixtiesgal My fluval stopped working too because of the tiny plastic white stick that's attached to the disk. It won't even turn on anymore and I don't have the money to replace it. Did yours stop turning on because of that piece too? I'm wondering if replacing that piece will make it turn on again.
***** I finally had to return it and bought a different brand. It was a very nice unit but I had a great deal of trouble with the instructions and the broken piece. The company refunded my money so I'm happy.
sixtiesgal very late on this but there is NOTHING you can’t fix on a fluval. No disrespect you shouldn’t buy a fluval not thinking your gonna have to replace parts @sixtiesgal there is off brands that work for fluval for the piece your talking About
My fluval 405 wouldn't turn on anymore, so I had been using my aquaclear for my 75 gallon. The water gets cloudy pretty quickly now, but I didn't want to spend another $200 on another fluval. I saw this on ebay for $42 and this review really helped me in deciding.
I bought the 404b version few months ago. It's still going strong. Not sure about the smaller ones. But be careful with unlatching the lid it's easy to break! Nice vid man
Can we get an update? Mine just got here via amazon. Temporary use to supplement a sponge filter, I didnt want to drop a 2 inch fish in a 90 gallon tank when I got my baby oscar so I have him in a 30g and the sponge wasnt cutting it. Numbers are good but clarity isn't. Looking for an update because I need it for a few months while the little dude grows, then I'll be putting this filter on the 90 to seed the next canister.
I own two of these filters... the SunSun 403B /w UV and the Aquatop CF500 /w UV. I've had them running for over a year now... and I love them. You can't get a better value for the money. They are serious work horses and I highly recommend them. Also, I found that if you play with the configuration of the intake tubes, you can make the skimmer work... I've got the skimmer running on my 55 and it goes all the way to the top. I did have to raise the 'U' shaped return pipe up a little bit so that it was not resting directly on the lip of the tank, but is works great.
Good to hear about the skimmer. I actually don't need it on this tank anyways. I do daily water changes. I'm still going to see if I can get it to work though for future reference. Thanks.
Great review video! I also use one of those canisters although it is a larger model. They work great. I agree with you on the quality of the intake and spraybar.
Good to hear Mike. I didn't need much, just a little something extra given all the waste. I hope it holds up over time. So far I like it every bit as much as my Fluval and Filstar Canisters.
This is one of the canister filters I was considering buying, but was unsure, I'm not now, thank you! Definitely going to give this a go. What I would say is that you can buy it for $49.99......Here in the UK it's £49.99!!!! Which is $82!!! As always we get ripped off in the UK.....Even on Chinese knock offs!!! :(
The skimmer extension piece is asymmetric in length. You could flip the skimmer extension off the intake pipe upside down and gain the extra height required.
The concept of the skimmer is good, but ineffective and useless if water levels are kept high. Overall I like the filter and for under $50 its doing a great job.
Thank you for your effort! Sure would have liked to see your tweek of filter media, then your video would have been different form all the others. An update would be appreciated to finish what you started. Thanks again
I just put a sunsun on my 55 gallon. I took a Marinland 400 hang on the back off. My sunsun is a 304b with uv. You say you should not use this canister filter by itself. Why?
I've heard a lot of people say that these are really good filters. Never had one myself, but will keep it in mind if I ever need a new one... The discus look great! Are all of these going in with the others once they get big enough?... I'll tell you Tom, I really love my discus! Gorgeous fish!! :)
Thanks Amber. Actually I am planning on getting rid of most the small discus. I have three more coming from Kenny and might even add a fourth to my order since I am already paying shipping. I have too many discus and will likely plop a few of my 4-4.5" fish in there to finish them off. I have some decisions to make. Thanks for watching.
how do you do a water change with this? i hooked one up yesterdAY on my 29 tall, and it runs pretty good, got rid of the skimmer because i didnt feel the need because my wave maker blows all the stuff from top all around anyway. also i think i put the filter pads and media all wrong. i put the pads on top of bio balls and ceramic rings etc, i tried to fix it but almost flooded my upstairs and was scared, so i figured id ask you before i switched the media the right way how you unhook it to switch it. also the ceramic rings came in a mesh bag, can i take them out? or should i keep them in the bag?
It's a good filter for the money. I have the biggest sun sun on a 125 gallon african cichlid aquarium. It's heavily stocked and the water could not possibly be any clearer. It's as clear as my other 125 gallon african cichlid tank that has an fx5 and305
Honestly its all about flow rate and the amount of media you can stuff in it in my opinion. The N-Bacteria that are key to our aquariums dont care if they live in a SunSun or an Eheim. Now longevity, I guess we'll see how these hold up over time. Thanks for watching.
Will do. Havent heard many negatives. Like all brands and models there are bound to be lemons. For me this is working good and the price was great. Hopefully it lasts.
Brandon Cortes I think you have to fill it first then press the primer button on the top then plug it in. It will blow some bubbles for a little bit until it’s air free.
i am agree with you, i saw a lot of videos, and you can put more filter media in this sunsun, for less money, i was wondering if i should go for one of this and try how it works, i heard from a lot of people its even better than other brands.
i have a 40 gallon breeder and im dying to set it up but cant decide hows the filter been holding up? and do you run it by itself because that is my goal for it to be the only filter for my tank
+beginner geckos/ native fish I've been running it and cleaned it several times for over 8 months now with no issues, it's a little slower flow from the spray bar then I'm used to, but works great otherwise.. I do run a small sponge filter along with it but I do that in most of my tanks for extra insurance..
+beginner geckos/ native fish Rinse and reuse the sponge and fine particulate filters as long as you think after a rinse, water will flow through it without too much resistance. When they get to gummed up replace them..
Light layer of sand. Lot of people keeping in bare bottom too. I just don’t like the look of BB display tanks. Most my plecos are wild caught and it’s believed that sand better replicates their natural habitat and makes them feel more comfortable.
Great freview, best in my opinion since this filter came out. I would use it on my 55g, but it would be raised about a foot or so off the floor. I think they look great, very sleek units.
Hey there,You really have a great setup going.Like your aquarium. :) Not able to get hold of your email address. Needed some tips and advice for my aquarium. Please do let me how to reach you. Thanks.. !!
Woody's Discus Wrong!!! Discus Love water flow A lot of Discus keepers have more than one wave maker, air stones, spray bars etc . I watch my Discus play in the current all the time. Really like the filter and the fact you can buy it without media. Bio Home media would be the hot tip ..Pondguru on here has some great videos. Woody
i think you should add some decorations to give your discus do something.. like hiding.. maybe wood will do !! discus need something to hide !! :)) just sayin
I didn't want the built in UV for two reasons. First, this is a grow out tank and I do daily water changes which makes the need for a UV non-existent. Second, the built in UV is just one more thing that can break, and if it does, the filter is out of commission. I'm sure they are nice, but if I ever decided to add a UV sterilizer it would be a separate external unit. Just my personal preference. Thanks for watching.
Ah Ha! When you look inside your freshly unboxed canister, under the last basket on the very bottom, you will see black, rectangular caps... one of your basket needs to have a basket plugged! Flip overnight your baskets and you will see one has two holes under the handle... plug then with the black caps. This stops water from bypassing the first basket! All the gunk stays there. Yes this will cause that basket to her real dirty faster but it saves the other baskets from the filth. I have 7" koi, I need this feature, you might not. That's what those weird black things are for
Dude, you have like 5 people asking for an update on the filter! Check your emails once in a while. I to would like to know if you've had any problems with the filter. Cracking, leaking, tubes getting clogged and so on.....
Having seen a lot of very poorly done reviews on TH-cam I can say that yours is very well done and it was extremely helpful. Thank you!

after running one day , my fishtank water is very clear already and not yellow any more , work s well ,,,,happy with it

I've been debating on purchasing one of the larger units to add to the filtration in my sunfish tank. Thanks for the review. It really helped me.
Thanks. Good luck on your purchase.
Thanks for such a detailed video on this filter.
Excellent video. I just ordered mine today for a heavily planted 55g.
I've just bought one off eBay last night and hows your filter going ?!?! :o
+mr potato still going strong!
Andrew Ewing YYAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY , I've spend 94 aud on it ._.
I bought the 404b version few months ago. It's still going strong. Not sure about the smaller ones. But be careful with unlatching the lid it's easy to break! Nice vid man

I bought one today for $39.99. I plan to use it as a supplement also. With standard sponges and biomedia it will probably only make 150gph.
Mines for some reason doesn't suck up the water properly. Smh it works but it keeps stopping so often
This is one of the canister filters I was considering buying, but was unsure, I'm not now, thank you! Definitely going to give this a go. That is the same model I have on my sons turtle tank, I've had it on there for over six months and the water is still crystal clear.
Good to hear. Thanks for watching.
Brad Johnson what was the size of your son's turtle tank?
Great filters for the price. I've had good luck with my aquatop. Agree with your ratings. Mine was missing the skimmer part.
The concept of the skimmer is good, but ineffective and useless if water levels are kept high. Overall I like the filter and for under $50 its doing a great job.
can i put it on my
24*16*16 inch
20 gallons tank
Can I put under my fishtank ....
2feet cabinet
Thanks to u. When power goes off and come back on, it starts on its own right?
Your review is right on. You didn't miss a thing.
i have the same filter and i can say that is grate, silent, big, grate plastic (for his price) and its cheap nice investment:)
I have 18 inches of clearance inside my cabinet with the back open trying to find out if this will fit inside
Nice review. I might get one to replace my fluval ( too noisy ) keep us up to date on how it works in the future
Thank you for your effort! Sure would have liked to see your tweek of filter media, then your video would have been different form all the others. An update would be appreciated to finish what you started. Thanks again
Sir is this Canister Filter working till now??
I just put a sunsun on my 55 gallon. I took a Marinland 400 hang on the back off. My sunsun is a 304b with uv. You say you should not use this canister filter by itself. Why?
Mine is making a humming noise. Tried everything tilting it, applying vasaline to impeller but no luck. Please help
I've heard a lot of people say that these are really good filters. Never had one myself, but will keep it in mind if I ever need a new one... The discus look great! Are all of these going in with the others once they get big enough?... I'll tell you Tom, I really love my discus! Gorgeous fish!! :)

I hear they are ok filters keep us updated. Little discus are looking nice by the way
Thanks, although I plan on getting rid of most of them. I have new fish coming from Kennys Discus and need the tank space.
It's a good filter for the money. I have the biggest sun sun on a 125 gallon african cichlid aquarium. It's heavily stocked and the water could not possibly be any clearer. It's as clear as my other 125 gallon african cichlid tank that has an fx5 and305

Keep us updated on the filter. I've been thinking about buying 1
Will do. Havent heard many negatives. Like all brands and models there are bound to be lemons. For me this is working good and the price was great. Hopefully it lasts.
Looks like a great filter for the price.
Have you had any issues with the canisters cracking? Just something ive read from other reviews and now im kinda nervous since i just bought one.
JessicaForeverHis mine is 3 years old... and still running fine, no crack
Its about how you operate it when you clean the filter media
Hi, how's the motor on this canister filter after 11 yrs on?
I ordered one do they work gooood
I bought two of these for my 75gallon tanks.
Why
I've heard good things about these filters. It just might be my next go to filter if I set up another FW tank.
For the price it is worth a shot. Seems like a great value.
where do you buy? eVilBay is not a sale site, is a crap :p please send a site correct, thanks
Sir this filter good one a 4 feet 18 tall 18 trench tank to
Good review, seems like everyone getting this filter
Good video. Just bought one myself!
They are a great value, just like your slim HOB's. Can't beat the price.
D Arnett
Which model did you get?
Aqua top 500
Any update regarding this filter?
Great review, thanks!
Are you in Minnesota like me?? I gotta ask
how do you even start it up im having problems anylinks to how to prime and start this fillter?
Brandon Cortes I think you have to fill it first then press the primer button on the top then plug it in. It will blow some bubbles for a little bit until it’s air free.
would you recommend buying a cheap external filter instead of a fluval c3 HOB filter for my new 15 gallon tank? i'm planning to go the planted route
i am agree with you, i saw a lot of videos, and you can put more filter media in this sunsun, for less money, i was wondering if i should go for one of this and try how it works, i heard from a lot of people its even better than other brands.
Kenneth Badders Thanks, you convinced me haha, I think Im gonna choose the model with uv light
Just ordered one of these for my new 40g Breeder, how has yours held up over the last year and a half?
i have a 40 gallon breeder and im dying to set it up but cant decide hows the filter been holding up? and do you run it by itself because that is my goal for it to be the only filter for my tank
+beginner geckos/ native fish I've been running it and cleaned it several times for over 8 months now with no issues, it's a little slower flow from the spray bar then I'm used to, but works great otherwise..
I do run a small sponge filter along with it but I do that in most of my tanks for extra insurance..
+Pauls Planted Aquariums do you reuse all the media that came with it or does it have to be replaced?
+beginner geckos/ native fish Rinse and reuse the sponge and fine particulate filters as long as you think after a rinse, water will flow through it without too much resistance. When they get to gummed up replace them..
+Pauls Planted Aquariums thank you for all the help ill be ordering mine today
How big are you going to grow out your juvy discus before you put them in a display tank?
I actually plan on selling them off soon. I need the tank space for other things. But until then, I wanted to give them the best water I can.
Hi.
I am about to buy one of these and i do have one question for you.
Does this filter have adjustable flow?
( fish and tank are great )
nope
Is it still working great..??
What is pump power???
Would you recommend substrate in pleco tank like sand or small gravel
Light layer of sand. Lot of people keeping in bare bottom too. I just don’t like the look of BB display tanks. Most my plecos are wild caught and it’s believed that sand better replicates their natural habitat and makes them feel more comfortable.
So I just purchase a SunSun and I can't get mine to suck up the water in tank.
Lamond B fill it with water, press the button many times than shake it gently for the air bubbles to come out
mmazgalin thanks it's working now. I had to make the hoses a little shorter.
Thank you for the review.
Great freview, best in my opinion since this filter came out. I would use it on my 55g, but it would be raised about a foot or so off the floor. I think they look great, very sleek units.
Cosmetically it is a nice looking unit. Thanks for watching.
Hey there,You really have a great setup going.Like your aquarium. :) Not able to get hold of your email address. Needed some tips and advice for my aquarium. Please do let me how to reach you. Thanks.. !!
I had two Eheims break, might as well stick with the cheaper filters.
Every brand will have a lemon or two. Give this brand a shot. Thanks for watching.
how is your HW302 filter, is it still working?
Ben Aries Galido I've had the older version for 5 years now not 1 problem.
is it loud
Woody's Discus
Wrong!!! Discus Love water flow A lot of Discus keepers have more than one wave maker, air stones, spray bars etc . I watch my Discus play in the current all the time.

Gahh, why did you give the directions a D- and then not show the setup?
se donde se puede compral?
Are you still happy with this filter? ??
i was wondering the same
Thanks for the great info
I use it alone on 44 extra tall . Wouldn’t go bigger
Ah Ha! When you look inside your freshly unboxed canister, under the last basket on the very bottom, you will see black, rectangular caps... one of your basket needs to have a basket plugged! Very good video thank you 🙏
Is this video by DIY king
Did he just say "Evilbay"
good review video
Dude, you have like 5 people asking for an update on the filter! Check your emails once in a while. I to would like to know if you've had any problems with the filter. Cracking, leaking, tubes getting clogged and so on.....
you talk like ceramic balls and carbon are really big features included. cheap stuff to a seller.
enough with the extra 3 dollars , hehe
thanks for the review
Nice!
Thanks.
the chinese ripped this off from the german sera filter the way the russians ripped off the B-29 and produced the tupelov T-4 !
My Ehiem just went
Your input/output tubes are too long
If you watched the entire video you would have seen them cut to size at the end of the video. :)
That's funny. EvilBay.
The intake system is far too temperamental and makes the entire system unreliable. Highly NOT recommended.
Looks a complete rip off of the Marineland canister filter C series. I hated my C-530, no self prime and bubbles that never stopped.
Türk'ler neredesiniz yorum yapın da uşaklarım :)
Lol. EvilBay.
