Yay, I think they are a great canister, we've been using ours for over a year and love it. We only have to clean it every 5-6 weeks and that's with dirty Goldfish. in fact the last time it was 9 weeks...oops! The tank was still crystal clear but boy the dirt in those canister pads! We have been thinking of getting another one for the 75 gallon tank.

I think so..This model I am pretty sure is made for up to 200 gallons though I think they come in a smaller size..I have used it on a 55 gallon system though..I dont think u need this for a 37 gallon but to each his own ..its your tank.do what u think works for u.
Hi, I have a sunsun 704b I just set up. Its running smooth and nice and quiet, but it does not seem to have the waterflow power I was expecting from the outake. My 350 magnum seemed to throw more water and it was a lot smaller than this monster and 35 yrs old. What could be wrong? As a matter of fact the intake suction is a lot less than i expected also. Real worried. Maybe I should have stuck w the antique. Please help.

I never really used carbon in any of my tanks. I only add it if I've used medication and need it to help clear the tank. With regular maintenance of a tank, carbon is just a fishkeepers preference rather than necessity. I don't like that carbon has to be changed every 2-3 weeks for it to be fully beneficial. I'd rather have much more bio filtration which is a necessity with goldfish. One of the HOB filters has carbon in the cartridges but again after 2-3 weeks it's useless unless I change the cartridge. So I guess what I'm saying is, it's just my personal preference.

Yes, I personally would replace the bio ball for the bio plus it’s much better at housing bacteria. I don’t use anything other than sponges and biomedia. The other things are only really needed for removing medications. They are also only effective for a few weeks and then have to be replaced.

Does the water level needs to be all the way up high? Mine is about halfway of the pipe and water keeps flowing out from the connection between the J pipe and the one connected to it whenever I try to prime it.
Lifewithpets umm, I mean the water level in the tank. Does it have to reach a certain height or point before I can properly prime the filter and start using? Becus I can't prime it well when the water level in the tank is about slightly more than half of the intake pipe.
i bought a 6w but i cant get it too work... its as if the pump is so weak that i cant draw the water out. I havent exceeded the .80m height limit either.

We got ours on Amazon, although the only ones we replace are the fines. I think we’ve only replaced the medium ones once. We wash the them in aquarium water and reuse them.
It would be for a baby Oscar but it will outgrow it quickly. They grow very fast! We used to have 2 in a 125 gallon tank. They need a lot of filtration because they're extremely messy. Great fish though!

We really like the Sunsun canister filter and would recommend it. We've had no problems with it and it's very quiet. We had it for about 8 months. I've no idea if you can get spare parts.
ummmm unless I missed something..u did not put your bio balls in?? I saw you opening the packages in the beginning but when you put everything back together I only saw the zeolite and the padding..Also if you order the sun sun filter it does give you an option to purchase the bio balls with the filtration set up..I bought mine on amazon..I have 2 of them and they are totally awesome filters.. when I went to clean my filter ..there was all kinds of slime on my bio balls..so I wanted to make sure that I had my set up correct.
We will be doing one next month when it's been up and running for two months. We plan on doing a review and cleaning the canister video. We're very pleased with it. Highly recommend it!
We didn't use the carbon and changed out the bio balls. There is no need for carbon in a tank unless removing medication. We got the sponges from Amazon.
@@Lifewithpets72 thanks for the reply. I found some sponges on eBay, amazon won't ship them where I am. I'm having trouble priming. I just spent a solid 30 mins trying to get the water to suck into the tubes and it does a little but the tubes aren't full by any stretch of the imagination. The depth of water in my tank isn't huge (set up is for an injured turtle.) it's about 4 inches deep so it covers the intake cage thing by about an inch. I don't know what to do 😔 I don't want to break the filter. I had to import it so it cost a fortune 😭
Natalie Oughton Try pushing the inlet tubes upwards so they don’t dip lower than the canister. You may have to try pushing the pipes up in different places. This is what I did when mine would not flow. However, not sure it will work with 4 inches of water.
@@kooky2 I got it going but it was a pain. The canister is lower than the entire tank. I had to just totally submerge the pipes and then once it was going I could hook it back onto the side of the tank. I know other people use them for turtles so with lower water but for sure mine is particularly low. Thanks for the help ♥
Great job, very professional. My suggestion would be to definitely cut those hoses to make it more clean-cut looking and to increase your flow a little. But yes it'll look much better hiding those hoses by cutting them shorter and indirectly increasing your flow rate with the shorter hose but not too short you just don't want to have all those hoses drooping and curving. Also if you're unhappy with that spray bar you can definitely get rid of it. I'm debating about taking my office I have plenty of circulation and area action in my tank. That too will increase your flowrate. Spray bars are nice if you don't have much aeration but I really wouldn't keep that on that's just my opinion though it does restrict the output. Again great job.
It won’t make any difference to the cycling. I’m not sure why they give the instructions the way they do. For this filter the water comes in down the side and then up through the middle. As the water flow is bottom to top then you want the bio media on the top so it stays clean for the bacteria to colonize.

Hi, have you had an experience of this filter leaking? I've read some reviews about sunsuns and most of them has issues with leakage on the sides.
We had the filter for 3 years and it leaked through the seal last month.

If too powerful for a 30 gallon tank. They do smaller versions though so maybe see if one of those would be suitable.

Yes, the tank needs to be filled before priming it otherwise it won't work properly.

We always fill our tank to just above the black rim but we start the filter back up when there's about an inch of water still to go.

We have several filters in other tank plus the tank has two other filters on it.

No we didn’t use the bio balls as explained in the video. The bio media we used is much more effective than the bio balls provided.
