This video has been so helpful thank you! When connecting the wires, does it matter which goes where for the hot wires? Also what would you recommend if the old pump didn’t have a bond wire? 😬

If it's wired for 220V then it doesn't matter which hot goes on which screw. That only matters for 110V, in which the hot wire goes on the + or black terminal and the white goes on the - or white terminal.
You can add a bond wire by driving a ground rod into the ground 3 feet and add a #6 wire from the rod to the motor. You can get ground rods from the hardware store or use a piece of rebar. make sure all of the ground connections are tight.

@@kudasindustries thank you so much! What would I need to connect? There is no metal by the pool. All I have is the pump and there is metal in the box to switch the pump on and off.

Curiosity, why wouldn’t you just replace the motor and not the whole pump?

The challenge is finding a 1.5hp replacement motor. With the new regulations, all pool pump motors over 1hp have to be variable speed and finding an original equipment 1.5hp fixed speed motor is hard to come by. My local pool store only stocks replacement pump assemblies. If you were to replace just the motor, you will probably want to replace the mechanical seal as well since you have to take it apart to get the motor out.

Where did you get the Hayward 1 1/2 HP super pump? All I can find is a 1 hp or a 1.65 hp Good video.

What if you don’t have those clips..mine wires are over 20 years old and I know there’s no clips

Do not order this pump!!! Garbage!!! It won't last 2 years. Find another manufacturer. 1 year warranty and then you're screwed. Garbage for the landfill.

Which pump are you referring to? The one that broke or the one that he installed?
