I just turned 46. I had my truck for over 10 years. Im swapping in a turbo bbc 4l80e this winter. I will be rigging up AC using the 454 compressor. The sad thing is my dad retired and sold his salvage yard a few years ago
Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle seems to be the answer most people think it means. Civilian Utilization Contract Vehicle also gets mention as what it stands for. I will research and do a video about it in the coming months.
The ambulance model of the CUCV came equipped with GM factory air conditioning. So, their is a pattern for it. All the GM parts are listed in TM9-2320-289-20P. Probably be real expensive, more than that 40 year old truck is worth.
While the M1010 had factory A/C. It also had unique alternators compared to the other CUCV trucks and nothing on that system will transfer over to the other CUCV models. Thanks for watching.
So what do you recommend? Vintage air with Nostalgic mounting brackets? I read online that the people that make the mounting brackets for nostalgic, no longer make the brackets. So im at a loss, need to get ac for my cucv. What do you think about a 12v DC RV rooftop AC unit in the fiberglass top? just an idea.
Yes, Vintage unit with Nostalgic brackets. I know before COVID the brackets were made by a shop in Fort Worth. At least that is what Nostalgic told me. I have not called Nostalgic in a few years. I suggest you call them. If you are going to put a 12 volt roof top unit on. Might as well go ahead and covert over to a serpentine belt, make the entire truck 12 volts, install an AD244 alternator and just bolt in a Vintage air system with ease. I don’t know enough about roof top units to comment on them.
@@timsteachablemoments1786 any 12V DC unit is going to be *very* weak or overload the existing alternator and belts... so it is very much worth doing it the normal way ( I looked into this for a compact car and it wouldn't even be adequate for that). There are 200VDC units from Tesla and Prius that would work but the where do you get that voltage on a CUCV so you are back to doing it the normal route as the best option.

i put a valve on my heater core line to block the flow. Cause yes enough heat does trickle through otherwise, to make it sweltering in hot weather.
