  • A sessions judge in Kerala gave bail to 74-year-old activist Civic Chandran and commented that the woman wears sexually provocative clothes. The judge also said that since Civic Chandran is an activist who works for a casteless society, it was impossible to believe that he would molest a woman knowing she is from a Scheduled Caste Community.
In this episode, Dhanya Rajendran poses a few questions to the judge. TNM also speaks to Supreme Court advocate Karuna Nundy about why this misogyny prevails in court.

Shouldn't action be taken against such judges in an exemplary manner?... why the looming silence from the part of the Kerala HC?

Exactly. Sruthiji! yes, such people sitting on the sacred seat and behaving in such atrocious manner. They should be taken to task.

Did you even read the full verdict? Dont go by these spreaders of misinformation just looking for their hot takes on headlines. The main reason for quashing the case was the activist was a physically handicapped person and the judge determined that he cant possibly harass the woman by dragging her into his lap.

One of the objectives of exemplary punishment is to act as a deterrent for future perpetrators. Judiciary should apply the same principle to its judges as well. Insensitive tools like the judge here should be put out to pasture and made an example for others. But what can one expect from a system with zero accountability and has been MIA when it is needed most

Provacative dress - what does it even mean???
It's all in men's eyes and mindset. In our country we have pedophiles, molester, rapist, predators & guy with morals.
A guy with moral will be provacated only by his wife or gf.
For the rest, the provacation occurs irrespective of dress or sometimes even irrespective of relation (ex. daughter, sister, etc)
Imo, these are generational thgts of ppl born in 40s, 50s, 60s. Hopefully they all will be gone in 20 or 30 years time. Mindset will change for new generation unless they don't pass on their shitty thoughts.

For criminal acts there is no time limit the lawyer appears to mislead us,if the old man has nervous health problems he needs to produce the evidence of treatment and explain why he was running around freely a women's freedom to wear dress of her choice is a fundamental right under article 21

Simply atrocious. How can you say that an activist for Scheduled caste could not have sexually assaulted a scheduled caste woman. So, does it mean he would do that to others? what a joke? and what is judiciary coming to finding fault with the woman's dress? calling it provocative.....when anyone harasses another in whatever and whicever way please do not find excuses to bail him or her out. Study the case properly and punish him/her. Not blaming the victim.....

The judge is North Indian. East and South India are far ahead in times. North Indian judges in South and East India is like putting a 10th pass person as a evaluator for PhD thesis

Aren't the lawyers from South India? As established in the audio. This blame game is not helping anyone. The whole world needs to take accountability to punish any prejudiced man on a prestigious position of being a judge. If the South is so ahead, why wasn't this case under the scanner of Kerala HC yet?

Absolutely 💯 Dress code only cannot be a scale for provacative. But Ms.Dhanya you should have added that dress code matters at a time if a woman sexually aspirate a man (by means of her actions) wearing such inappropriate clothes.
