      I’ve been experimenting with larger balls and smaller balls of powerbait to see if I notice any bite difference, and I can’t say that I’ve seen much of a difference. So I’m starting to lean towards “less is more” ☺️ saves me from buying so many spare bottles!!

    • @UntilJourneysEnd
      @UntilJourneysEnd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lakes like Gregory heavily rely on trout stocking. Once the fish have been caught, the population of fish pretty much disappears. So you might have been there weeks after their stock, or, it could’ve just been an off day! This video was a week after their last stock. My dad and I went a few weeks ago, again only 1 week after their last stock, and the weather was so warm that the trout weren’t biting.
      A lot of factors come into play, but your best bet is to go a few days after a stock. 👍🏼👍🏼

      @Malvarez909 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UntilJourneysEnd Thank you for the information! Very informative and helpful. I totally agree with you. I plan to hit Big Bear or Lake Elsinore this weekend. Lake Elsinore has huge Carps and Catfish believe or not. I caught 4 with my dad the other day and we deep fried them. Bomb! You have to make a trip when your in the area. Keep up the great work on the videos! Hope you hit at least 100k in the next few months. Always cool to watch this kind of stuff. Outdoor chef life and Fisherman's Life channels are fun to watch too.

      @Malvarez909 No problem dude! I’m looking forward to the day when I have a bigger audience. But, until then, I’m really enjoying being able to have conversations with people like yourself!
      I’m not a huge urban fisherman, so I probably won’t make it out to Lake Elsinore. BUT, if you’re after some big carp, I just got back from a trip to Big Bear 3 days ago and my underwater camera picked up DOZENS of big carp, 10ft from the shoreline!
      It sounds like you and your dad know how to live well ☺️ If you end up heading to Big Bear, I hope you make some good memories! 🤛🏻

    Cool vid! Years ago I caught my pb bow at Intake 2 up in Bishop, CA. I was using 2lbs test as well. The fight was about 10 mins but it felt like an eternity. As soon as the fish was in the net, the jig popped off. 2lbs test is no joke when you get into 4lbs or bigger class. Gregory is a good lake to fish. Too bad they charge a fee, now 👎🏽

    • @UntilJourneysEnd
      @UntilJourneysEnd  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hahah dude, I know what you mean by an eternity! 😆😅 It’s a great feeling in the end though right? hahaha
      Well, I know it’s not ideal to have to pay $10 to fish when you already have a license. But Gregory specifically, does a ton of private stocking of some big rainbows and the lake isn’t very big so it’s easier to find the fish. In most cases I’d agree with you, but for Gregory it makes sense. In order to stock that many fish, they have to bring in some extra money.

    That’s a monster for Gregory there’s few huge bass and huge carp in there but that’s probably the biggest trout lol lol I’d love to know how long he was held over maybe planted few yrs ago I’m guessing? I dunno I wish was a way to tell how many seasons or years those holdovers are in there

      I would love to know if the trout holdover in Gregory! I’m going to look into that more...
      I do know however that this fish was most likely not a holdover, as they had been steadily stocking the lake with some big fish in the weeks prior to me fishing there. Right after I left that day, another guy caught a 5lber at this exact spot!

    Do you have any tips for using a lighter line? I use 4 lb test, but it snaps constantly when I hook up on fish. The line snaps even with minimal pressure with my hands so Idk how anyone can be fishing with 2 lb line 😭

    • @UntilJourneysEnd
      @UntilJourneysEnd  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 1st thing I’d recommend is to make sure your drag isn’t too tight. The way to check, is if you’re able to pull line out by hand from the reel without much pressure, and you can hear your reel “squeal” a bit while you’re doing it.
      The 2nd thing, is I would switch over to 5lb Pline. It’s fluorocarbon coated which will help with abrasion resistance and visibility, and is still small enough in diameter for trout in clear water. Here it is on Amazon 👇🏻

    • @rumdab
      @rumdab 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@UntilJourneysEndThank you so much for the detailed answer! I set my drag pretty tight, so that's probably why it snaps so easily(still a newbie 😅). I'll definitely check that line out. Also, do you use a leader, or is it all on that line?

    • @UntilJourneysEnd
      @UntilJourneysEnd  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @rumdab Of course dude.
      I use what are called “Carolina Keepers” (the clear version). This will go on your main line and replaces the swivel, so you don’t have to tie on a leader. Saves time! Sometimes, you might need to clamp a small splitshot underneath the Keeper if it starts to slide down to your hook. (water temps or the size of your slip sinker above your Keeper can sometimes cause the Keeper to slide during your cast).

    Just my two cents, but you'd be safer fighting a big fish like that with your rod tip up, letting him fight the rod and not the reel. It's what the rod is for, not to just to cast but to wear the fish out.

    • @UntilJourneysEnd
      @UntilJourneysEnd  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree…which is one of the reason’s I stopped using 2lb line like in this video. I was more so concerned the line would snap which is why I let him take as much line as he wanted. After a few months of using 2lb though, I found the trade off with supposed visibility just wasn’t worth breaking off and losing the fish.

    • @william44660
      @william44660 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UntilJourneysEnd OK, I can see where that might have accounted for your keeping the rod so low. Sorry, it's hard to tell from these videos why people fish the way they do. There's no perfect strategy for fighting a fish, and you were able to get that one in without breaking the line, and that's what counts.

    • @UntilJourneysEnd

Do you use 2lb izor on all of your bait and wait poles? I usually mini jig with 2lb and then bait and wait with 4lb. I’m too scared to use 2lb as my bait and wait but hey maybe I’ll give it a try.

    • @UntilJourneysEnd
      @UntilJourneysEnd  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I absolutely fish Socal! 😆 The good trout fishing around here is slim. But I’ll be on the hunt this summer for secret spots!!
      So, I am currently experimenting with 2lb izorline to see if I notice a significant difference with skittish trout. So far, Socal fishing I haven’t noticed a huge difference. Up in the Eastern Sierras, where the water is much clearer, I’ve visibly watched trout spook when I was throwing lures with 4lb line.
      By the end of the year, I’ll post a video about my experiences with both 2lb and 4lb line!

      Hey James! The trout in this lake are entirely hatchery raised fish and likely all sterile, with no feeder creeks going into the lake to allow spawning opportunities even if some of the fish were fertile. So in essence, this lake is stocked so that people can catch fish and also to keep them if they want food.

      These are all stocked trout that most likely will not make it through the summer 😕 So taking them home is the best way to not waste these guys.
