hi sir as a console (ps4) player form venezuela of the game i suscribe each word of that you are talking about as a member of the community that have been kick out of the game for frontier development the losing of eddb is a heavy blow to all of us that stil play the game even mentioning the last thought about cancelation of console develop now as a logical the game turn into a complete pc title in form and the tools as you mention will turn complete to apply the data on the pc level of the game letting us console players out saddly
We just got a bunch of new weapons, modules and utilities to help Cmdrs join the fight against the thargoids without having to engineer anything. There are eight Maelstroms encroaching on the bubble. We just got caustic sinks to allow us to get deeper into the Maelstroms to see the hidden, protected structure buried within. Update 15 and 16 are due this year, with one of them next month. And people are saying 'I don't forsee any new content for Elite' as if they're standing with their back to a raging forest fire saying 'I can't feel any heat'.
I've not been playing ED for few years now and hearing the EDDB is no more, it adds to my reluctance to go back. I loved this tool. I would prefer seeing it to change the developer / owner, open sourced etc.
2:54 Yes, I highly agree that it's reeeeeally foking dumb, that we have to look for everything ourselves. However I also think that giving us every information on silver plate is not good either. I think the best middle ground would be, giving us a new type of a space station (it could look like big box with landing pads), on which we would have access to "internet". Accessing "Internet" will allow us to check where we can find parts we want, where is a ship we want and where is a station with specific addon we require right now (like black market, interstellar factor aso.). The only thing that would be inaccessible would be the price market, because of how fluid prices are. Although we also should be able to get informations about where we can mine valuable resources. Maybe by paying a miners, who mine in the specific location we are looking at. Disembark option should be there as well, so we can find stuff we want on foot. In the end it's heartbreaking to see such important part of Elite Dangerous getting shut down, thanks everyone who wasted time reading my comment and I'm wishing you all the best.
I think you may be wrong about Elite's community not being as dedicated as they were. EDDB shut down because it's sole developer is moving on to other things. EDDB was a labor of love for him, as the various third-party tools are for their developers. Eventually, they too will either shut down or be passed on to others to maintain. At the same time, new tools can be developed. Some of that is already in progress as new plug-ins for EDMC have been deployed for the Thargoid War. With new space games coming out that are only single player, and Star Citizen in forever development hell, there aren't any real "sandbox" games as big as Elite Dangerous. I can see a future, even ten years down the road, where Elite still sells, still makes money for FDev, and still draws in new players. Simply because there is nothing, neither planned or existing, that can offer what Elite does: The ENTIRE galaxy to play a semi realistic space game with thousands of other people.
The overt reliance on 3rd party tools because the game simply doesn't provide the same information should be a slap in the face to the developers of Elite Dangerous. It's not like a killboard or fleet participation record that you get from EvE Online, this is.. Where do I buy ship item b and module name size n. That should be pretty easy to locate in a game set in the year 3309 while also featuring FTL travel. They could add such functionality to the game quite easily. Along with making trade routes far easier to spot and profit from, however they haven't, and it's unlikely they will ever plan to. This means the current and future players in your ten year hypothesis is going to continue to rely on 3rd party volunteer developers. What happens if they go away? They've already collectively went on strike for a weekend in April 2017. From that I believe FDEV developed the bare bones required to support some information, however I could be wrong and FDEV may not have noticed the activity of such external behaviour. Will I play Elite Dangerous again? Probably if I'm in the mood. The grind does put me off however so if there's laundry or dishes to do I'll get them done first and then play something else. Will I praise the game of Elite Dangerous? It had a lot of promise at the beginning but quickly the sheen faded and has never been completely buffed up again to the point where it can shine anew. There's a lot of simple things that FDEV could do to make Elite Dangerous, interesting, engaging and FUN enough to pull players like me and new ones to the game. Personally they should make up their mind if it's online or not. If it's online scrap the group & solo modes. If it's more solo with group activity, scrap the solo mode and have private and open modes only. Simple. Introduce narrative quests ala Warframe. Players can play it through once and can continue their journey through the stars if they want. Bringing me on neatly to reducing the number of NPC corporations. There's too many of them and for that reason collectively it's meaningless. If there 100 corporations through out the bubble you would be able to see allies and hostiles far more regularly. Make working for or again NPC corporations matter in the long term. I could go on but only because I love the memories of Elite & Frontier 2: Elite, so I know we could have more modern game mechanics to showcase & highlight the lore and the human bubble and beyond.
@@sidrat2009, I respect your opinion, but I stand by mine. Elite is pretty flexible in game play, and I like that I'm not the main character. I'm just some guy in a ship. I can play the game _I_ want with the people _I_ want to play with, if any. There are a LOT of space games out there, but nothing like Elite. For those of us that still love the game, nothing else comes close. I _would_ like to see some form of the third-party tools integrated into the game, and if they ever go away completely, that will probably be the end of the game. But I think there are enough players that still enjoy the game, that also know how to code with the Elite API, that the chances of ALL of the third-party tools going away is slim.
@@Cee64E I just ultimately think its a tragedy that the FDev isn't as invested in ED as the players/community that keep it propped up. You're right that there will probably be a die-hard core that support the game until FDev decides the servers are too expensive to maintain. And yes, initially, the game was "space EuroTrucker", where you individually didn't matter that much to the universe. But then they also put in the "background sim" of the universe narrative they wanted players to invest in. Only to never let you really interact with that narrative at all. There's no 'story' that players have the option to be a part of, and you never directly interact with any of the primary characters in the sim narrative. The galaxy might as well be static and background sim narrative not even exist, for all the effect the narrative has on the individual player. And that's a major "miss" for the core design. Yes, there is no other real-galaxy-spanning space game out there that is exactly like ED. But what IS out there could give lots of ideas to FDev to keep the game relevant if they wanted to. FDev saw SC--despite it being in "development hell" for a decade now--as a serious competitor years ago. It's why they attempted to add the "space legs" and multi-crew features to keep players that were looking for that (with dubious success). And I think the fear of that competition is what threw off the devs and some of their original plans. And, I think at this point, they've conceded that they've lost to SC even in its current state. And by "lost" I mean that a new person looking to jump into a space-sim is more likely to consider SC than they are ED in their relative current states. A situation ED is either unable or unwilling to attempt changing. ED will continue to exist as long as FDev thinks it pays its bills. But I don't expect serious investment and innovation in ED by FDev going forward. As fan-tools eventually fade, so will the quality of life for the remaining players. Those fan-tools run on servers that cost ever-more time and money to maintain, too.
@@JB-bb4su I can respect that. I don't completely agree but you have some fair points. I don't see SC as that much of a competitor _yet_, not like NMS, both of which I play. IMHO Star Citizen will never be "done", because Chris Roberts doesn't understand that perfect is the enemy of good. As it is now, it _looks_ very attractive, and it plays okay until the bugs show up, and they are Legion. Plus the price of entry is kinda high, not just for the game, but the specs needed to run it well. No Man's Sky is another very visually appealing game with some very engaging game play and LOTS of free updates. It's a bit more for casual players, though, and doesn't even have good controller support, like a lot of Steam games. While there are a fair few things they do that Elite doesn't, and I _still_ hope to see ship interiors some day, I think Elite is fairly well positioned against them both. So I'm not really sure that Elite _needs_ a lot of innovation to stay relevant. I imagine there are a fair number of players that would LOVE to see Base Building added. As much as I love exploration, there are just as many players that would love to be able to strike out deep into the black and start their own colonies, and it's something that FDev may be considering, according to some speculators. While Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is getting long in the tooth, it builds on a game idea from back in the 8-bit days that is STILL popular and still showing up in new games, over and over. It runs well on mid-level hardware and doesn't cost a lot to get into. I think it still has a future. But we can agree to disagree.
I recently got back into playing. Decided to try and just play the game without use of 3rd party tools. Its been tough, but its kind of fun, relying on myself to make decisions on where to go next, and what to trade. I've only just got a hauler, so I'm sure I will find it harder to progress. But assuming the servers are still online in a years time, I think I will be more than happy to slowly work my way to Elite.
I agree with pretty much everything you've said, and since I returned to the game a few months ago, Inara has become my primary tool. The pure fact that outside tools are necessary to play the game has always been a sticking point for me. And I think it's actually a good thing that EDDB shuttered because it is reflective of how Frontier take fundamental tools for granted. That dude pretty much carried the game for many years with his voluntary time. Frontier should have found a way to include him in the development process as a paid consultant. The mining tool (edtools) won't even work now because they directly sourced info from EDDB. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. A lot of the big accounts seem to gloss over the efforts the dev for EDDB has made over the years, and it's a shame.
wat.. the data base was obsolet as soon as inara launched... i know you probably get horny on doom posting but bro move on go post memes on the internet or someting.
EDDB's big edge for me was a clean interface. It had no frills, and gave all the required info in one place. One downside to EDDB was that the developer did not develop a support system like EDSM and Inara have, that actively recruits monetary supporters. One thing that bugs me is that it feels like there are items of low-hanging fruit that could be knocked out with minimal programmer time, as well as monetizable elements that are ignored.

They're also the systems that have received the least amount of update by the Devs over the years.

My friends support ticket towards fdevs has not been looked at for days, he cant play with anyone. Fdevs not giving a flying fuck about it and trying hard to stop us from playing the game, kinda IS the end.
can someone buy the rights and fix it up?
EDDB was mid af. Inara is much better.
It is. The game is dead. No new content. No new developments. It's not even on life support. It's a failed project. A ghost. Stop trying to be a contrarian, you are just not right. If Inara falls too, the game will become unplayable.
Also, a lot, and I mean it, of the third party apps depend on EDDB. So... F.
We have new contract game still have alot players game still enjoyable maybe you the one who need stop jump around copy paste other dummy ppl siad
Not for me it isn’t.
No, eddb is a front end for accessing common databases. It's not what gets the feed from EDMC etc
you can say the n word on 4 chan now so you can get your adreneline going . but now since you consider elite dead can you move on now?
