    Thank you for this video!! I inherited a Singer 401 years ago and still adore it to this day. Today I used your video to clean the bobbin case.

    Thank you so much. This is a very helpful easily understood video. I was able to pause and start without getting lost in the instructions you were giving. You were very straight and to the point. I have been afraid to remove my case because of the screws.
    Thank you again

    Thank you so much for this! I have just acquired a 401A with about a mile of thread and years of lint stuck under the bobbin case, and was wondering how to remove the case to clear it all out and clean it. Had no idea it was so easy to remove - thank you again. I'll be right onto it tomorrow!

    SOOOOO helpful thank you!! I thought I broke my machine after using the wrong bobbin and started to panic! You were very helpful in your explanation!

    I have a 401A I picked up at a thrift store I've been resolving some issues on, like a frozen gummed up stitch selector assembly. I hadn't attempted to do anything with the bobbin case, until now. This video and another video made it easy.
    It probably makes cleaning easier, but one doesn't actually have to remove the needle and/or presser foot to remove the throat plate. If one raises the presser foot and rotates the hand wheel until the take up lever is at its lowest point, then moves the throat plate position lever to unlock, the throat plate should slide out easily.

    Wow that looked easy enough to do. I have the Singer 401A with the cabinet included. I purchased it at the swap meet over 5 or more years ago. I have always wanted to clean, oil, grease and switch out the knee pedal for a foot pedal. I was cleaning it and wanted to know to remove the bobbin case in order to clean it. Thank you so much for posting this video.

      All you need to do is slide the foot control out of the holder and you have the foot control...

    Thank you so much. I didn't know about just lifting the assembly to the right of the bobbin to take it out. I was frantically searching for a tiny screwdriver. Didn't need it. Wonderful video.

    Hi there - GREAT video!
    the part that needs to be pushed back to remove the bobbin case seems stiff - I’m not able to push it back - is there an area I need to grease or lubricate to assist in this process?

    Great video, thank you so much.
    I received a Singer 401sewing machine as a gift after the computer of my Empisal Galaxy's of 35 years broke down. I was at my wits end as the diagrams in the manual for the 401 are not very clear. I still have a lot to learn.
    At the bottom of the Singer 401, there is an arm in the middle of the 3 arms that is hold in place by a bullet shaped screw from the left on the outside, what i the function of the arm and the screw? I unscrewed the screw, not knowing that it wasn't necessary. ( I cleaned and oiled the machine)I tightened it again, but I am a little cautious that if it was done incorrectly it may damage the machine.

    Hi .. im having a problem with that part of the machine i cant identify. when the needle comes down the thread is picked up but before it has a chance to go anywhere it binds up and breaks the thread ... no matter what the tension is set at. it doesnt seem to want to slide up and over the bobbin it ends up wrapped around the back of the piece this video shows being removed. the part the bobbin sits in. Any ideas or suggested videos??

    • @Peppermint1
      @Peppermint1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start by replacing the needle even if it looks perfectly straight. If it still breaks the thread you may have a bent shuttle hook tip. Look up on TH-cam

      Make sure put in the right spot. Have you put some little oil by the bobbin case? See that work. Thx.

    • @markofashion1790
      @markofashion1790  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, easy to found they are very common similar to Singer 99 and 66 from 400-500 series Singer. Check on eBay or FB group sell those parts.

    That is a "early production" 1956 model… They were manufactured between 1956 and 1961 and one million were made..
