    Thank you for your video. You just saved me a chunk of change. My machine was almost in the car to go to the repair shop and my sister said to look you up. This one only has one a number 8. I'm going to do a clean, lube, and probably check the motor brushes on this one. It seems a little weak and has a odor when run for a minute or two like the brushes are arcing on the commutator.

      @@customcutter100 not sure what a “top hat” is. As far as reconditioning the motor brushes, disengage your hand wheel clutch and run the motor wide open until it reaches top speed rpm. It may take several minutes to warm up the motor brushes and armature and burn off all the particles that are present. Don’t stop running it until it reaches top speed. It may smoke a little and smell a bit but just keep it running until a high pitch rpm is achieved.

    • @photographteacher
      @photographteacher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shana I have never seen a 328k in person But I think it is actually a different hook system than the 401 in this video. I think they are both drop in class 66 bobbins - so they look a lot a like. But the 401 is a full rotary hook (the bobbin case does a full 360 circle as you rotate the hand wheel). I think your 328 is an oscillating hook, meaning it only goes 180 degrees and the goes back 180 as you turn the hand wheel. If that is the case there will be some important differences. I would search on singer horizontal oscillating hook maintenance videos to get more exact information for your machine. the 328 all aluminum machines are cool- could easily be worth a $50 clean lube and adjust from a professional

    • @randyyoursewingmachineman9954
      @randyyoursewingmachineman9954  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check all the obvious and the basics. Proper thread (all purpose/dual duty), needle installed properly and brand new, threaded properly, tension set on four.
      The needle hit something, causing it to break. Check everything along its path of movement to see if there is a burr or a ding, any rough place that will snag the thread.

      Most likely it has a broken gear. The early model touch n sews had steel gears. They went to composite gears and that was problematic as the gears didn’t hold up. If yours lasted this long, they may have been replaced already. It may be time for replacement gears again.

      @@peachmomo1470 most likely it will need to be repaired by a technician who is familiar with gear replacement. If you can get the white nylon gears that are matched pairs, be sure to get those. There will be five gears total. Usually the top (upper bevel ) gear is the first to break. It is the one that is driven by the main upper shaft and gets the most torque. The newer replacement gears are made of harder nylon than the originals, and they will be LOUDER when you run the machine. If it was me, I would take the amount of money you’re about to spend, and buy an older touch n sew with metal gears. Get a 603-E or a 600-E or equivalent. Same platform. All your parts and accessories will work identically. Gears are unbreakable.
      Try shopmygoodwill.com. I see them for sale on there quite often. Just be sure to email the location after you win the bid and remind them to pack the machine properly for shipment. Pack it tight. No movement and plenty of LARGE CELL BUBBLEWRAP. NO STYROFOAM PEANUTS.
      Good luck.

      the 600 was the first of the touch and sew models so you could check and see if other early touch and sews would be good donors -- all touch and sews after the 600 have plastic gears that chemically degrade over time, by the 90s they were all worthless - so they are usually free or less than $5. But with the 600 being a rotary hook metal gear machine it might be able to use parts from the 401 or 500 machines like in this video. But there are also lots of 600 parts online, ebay etc. these are good machines - definitely worth the less than $25 to fix bobbin issues
