My primary hope from this announcement is that whatever stick they have up their butts about people not liking TTYD combat gets shattered when they see the amount of interest from switch owners.
Between Super Mario Wonder and TTYD's Remaster, I wonder if they're finally starting to realize that people are tired of the stagnation that consumed the series throughout the 2010s. They sterilized the series to the point Paper Mario is viewed with open contempt by players, the Mario & Luigi series got so bad that it killed the studio that produced them, and people stopped purchasing the 100000000th New Super Mario Bros game because they all felt the same. It really could be that with these specific Mario games (Wonder, TTYD, and RPG), they're testing the waters to see if more creative Mario games sell well. Not going full Hopium, but my opinion on the Mario franchise as a whole is definitely a bit more optimistic than it has been in a long, long time.
God, i sure hope so. I'm still somewhat sceptical and believe that these remakes have found some sort of loop hole, where they're allowed keep all their original stuff. Then again, this remake (as well as the SMRPG remake) didn't get the same creative restrictions that the M&L remakes got, so Nintendo might actually be getting more lenient again.
I wouldn't say that Mario and Luigi went bad. More that it stagnated after a combination of Paper Mario's Sticker Star-ness infecting Paper Jam, and poor choices on AlphaDream's part, mostly BISDX being made for 3DS.
Honestly pretty sad that remaking their best game was their demise, they prob did that because it was the safer choice, and they didn't know if the switch would flop so I can't judge them for not releasing it there
That is true, I suppose saying they were "layered" now wasn't the best wording, it is that the layering and depth is much more noticeable than it was before.
I think the reason why they went with shiny material for the environment is because it's supposed to represent a cutout of the type of paper that's commonly used for children storybook, which I think what inspired TTYD artstyle in general. So, it's pretty neat.
Another quality change I want that you didn't discuss is: MORE BLUE WARP PIPES! With the required General White backtracking quest and the General White trouble center quest it would have saved so much time.
I think the reason everything's so "shiny" is because they're trying to replicate the surface of a children's pop-up book. You say the lighting's unrealistic? I say the child's reading these laminated pages under any light source they can find, so the colors won't always be perfect.
THANK YOU, i was worried i was the only one who got upset with the reflections, its just too much, even the carpet in marios house is shiny, hope they tone it down till release, to fit the surface. World 1 the grass, too....
I think Rogueport's so reflective because it's supposed to be wet? Like, you can see puddles all over the place, so there must be a lot of rain in that area.
The remake needs to let you rematch the bosses whenever you want. (Preferably with higher difficulty.) Biggest problem I had with the OG is that you had to play through the entire game again just fight a boss you really like. Super Mario RPG Remake is letting us do just that so I can't imagine the TTYD Remake being any different in that regard.
Origami King really took the papercraft look as far as possible, with the world looking like it was made out of layered construction paper. Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but also kind of bland since everything is solid colors. Here, they've given surfaces distinct patterns and details by making them what appears to be wrapping paper, which explains why they're glossy.
I dont think they will reveal the next gen console on next February's direct since we still has some games are still coming out next year like Princess Peach Showtime or Luigi's Mansion 2 aka Dark Moon and its still likely we can still see more DLC in some games also like Super Mario RPG's remake since they official confirmed post game content on that game and they also revealed NOT in the trailer was a difficulty settings in which you can set to currently medium/normal and easy, But i have the feeling that they might include a hard setting in a future free update.
The new console would most likely be a new switch but better, and include all the previous games, it would be very dumb not to do that, so these new games would be played on the new consoles, maybe some even come out after the console releases
The Mario series appears to Jane been loosening it's shackles for a while now. As far back as Odyssey, the sports titles and more SMB Wonder. Hopefully that 'IP Team' are firmly locked in the basement.
Great video been watching alot of videos on the Mario series keep up the great work would love to see more Mario reviews like Mario galaxy lugis mansion and alot of great Nintendo games/ series you explain everything about the games very well the good/bad what you like/don't like
5:03 that does seem to be a stylistic choice since it seems like damn near everything is made of a cardstock paper and with that scene in Boggly Woods the pattern on the floor has a sort of translucent holographic pokemon card look to it
I don't have a Switch but TTYD is making me want to pull the trigger - maybe wait until the Switch 2 is out. I have fond memories of playing this as a kid but I never beat it, I think I got stuck on the final boss.

the game to me looks absolutely amazing and im so excited to see more on it, that being said, i wonder what they're going to do with the action commands, being that it looks like they're targetting 30 fps compared to the original's 60
I agree one hundred percent with your thoughts. Right down to some surfaces looking just a little too shiny. A less reflective surface would go far in a lot of scenes shown I think
6:56 I think the PM64 music was meant to be a misdirection to make people believe this was a remake of PM64 at first until it was made clear that it was actually a TTYD remake, which makes me believe they're actually aware of the fact that a PM64 remake is what was more expected but TTYD is the one we actually wanted. If they're that aware of fan expectations and desires it actually gives me a lot of hope for the future of Paper Mario and other Nintendo franchises that haven't been doing so hot.
I thought it was a "Paper Mario 1+2" remake collection, at first. So I was a bit disappointed when I realized that it's +just+ TTYD.... But that disappointment faded as soon as I saw how damn pretty this game is. But you still have to wounder, why did they play the N64 theme? And they weren't very specific with the release plan
I did see that, but I'm not 100% convinced that's from a hard mode. There's a cut in-between that damage, so they could very easily just used different footage for those shots. It could be from a hard mode, but I won't point to that as guaranteed proof just yet.

I guess I could get a little weird and say this is part of their testing software, like an open this test battle, but that implies a programmer would have recorded this footage, and that seems unlikely and they probably wouldn't do that. It could also be a coincidence I guess.
Nintendo will probably learn for one that a proper Paper Mario will sell well when both new fans and old fans actually buy this. I have not touched Paper Mario since even TTYD to be honest, so I'm actually excited to pick this one up.

All we need is for this game to outsell "The Origami King" 10 to 1 and even outsell "Super Paper Mario" in order for Nintendo to realize "Wait. People actually want original stuff in "Paper Mario".........WHAT HAVE WE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST 12 YEARS?!".

I’ve noticed this too. Paper Mario (at the beginning) was modeled after a pop-up book. Real life pop-up books use the glossy card stock. I’m glad the game is replicating that. Even the character sprites are card stock paper cutouts.
Nintendo deserves praise but let's not get ahead of ourselves Nintendo could throw us a bone and totally go back to their stubborn old ways so I'm not holding my breath that thing are going back to the old style. Is a higher possibility now than before? Absolutely but nowhere near certain.
I have this issue with the game and Idk if i´m the only one This is one of my favorite games ever. I played it like 20 times and I used to replay it every summer until like 2018 or something... so yeah, I basically know this game from start to finish From a visual perspective, sound design and music, the game looks 10/10. Literally looks amazing. But gameplay wise, it looks exactly the same. Like I did not see anything new. Don´t ge me wrong, if it ends up having nothing new I will still buy the game and play it a ton, but to me personaly would feel kinda dissapointing to have a remake that doesn´t add anything. Maybe new characters, a new are with harder battles, different challenges in areas we already know.... and who knows, maybe even some new side story content. This is the first trailer and the game doesn´t even add a date on, so in the next months we might see new stuff announced and this concerns may dissipate. But, in the meanwhile, am I the only one worried?
oh yeah i just saw the toad. That gives me some hope! You know what would be great? If they add more battles to Glitzville after completing the chapter. They could give us super tough battles there that don´t neccesarily give you XP (so you dont break the game) @@ScionVyse
This is a remaster, not a remake. Nintendo can update 10,000 art assets but that's what a remaster does, not a remake. Just look at the Grodus intro and it's a frame to frame copy paste of the original boss animation. This alone shows Nintendo is updating the old code and not doing things "from the ground up."
My big takeaway was how incredible and timeless the original's artstyle and graphics were that this remake in some respects looks slightly worse visually, somehow. Can't say I'm a fan of the white outlines you can see when the models move in certain ways
To be fair, Pokemon remakes have NOTHING to do with Nintendo at all, that's all on The Pokemon Company choosing to have a company that's not Game Freak handle things.
I'm honestly disappointed this wasn't Super Paper Mario; I love that game so much, when TTYD is just...meeeh. Super just has the far superior world theming (due to being separate worlds, not different areas of one world - outer space, underworld and heaven, 8-bit retro, etc.), the far more interesting and memorable characters, far better story, only one bloody Peach segment, and overall better gameplay. ...Hopefully we do get a Super Paper Mario remake one day, one with traditional controls instead of uncomfortable sideways-Wiimote (and occasional pointer usage - that rarely worked well).
Why does everyone think that the music from the intro of the trailer is from PM64? It’s the same as TTYD. The N64 game had different music and even melody.
I'm really sorry. I know this is a really really REALLY hot take but... thousand year door doesn't really need a remake. yes I do get that it's a very good game but I just feel like it would be similar to the bowser's inside story remake
I don't really understand how people can say BDSP was bad. Underwhelming and low effort, sure, but it's still Diamond and Pearl at its core, and has improvements on the original. Besides, that wasn't even developed by Nintendo
The shiny floor reminds me of waxed floors. Like the kind you find in a school gym, or a theater (which makes sense cuz of the theater setting of the fights)

TTYD actually always had layered sprites to give depth, it just wasn't very easy to tell. The remake definitely makes it more noticeable.

Chapter 4 isn’t very big to begin with. Adding pipes would make it shorter than chapter 6 from super paper Mario.

My only hope is that they make it where the cutscenes can be skipped. Really, the shadow queen boss is stuck after 11 minutes of cutscene.

It looks like there IS a hard mode. In the first battle with the goombas they do 3 damage to them, which is more than their base health (2 HP)

Goombas, base goombas anyway always do 1 health where spiked goombas do 2. This may have been confirmation of a hard mode or new game +

The trailer does show at least one completely new npc, which is a good sign, as chances are there will be even more additions beyond that.
When things got quiet and they went to the peach section I was 100% expecting them to show off new content there.

Super just has the far superior world theming (due to being separate worlds, not different areas of one world - outer space, underworld and heaven, 8-bit retro, etc.), the far more interesting and memorable characters, far better story, only one bloody Peach segment, and overall better gameplay.
...Hopefully we do get a Super Paper Mario remake one day, one with traditional controls instead of uncomfortable sideways-Wiimote (and occasional pointer usage - that rarely worked well).

I'm really sorry. I know this is a really really REALLY hot take but... thousand year door doesn't really need a remake. yes I do get that it's a very good game but I just feel like it would be similar to the bowser's inside story remake

I don't really understand how people can say BDSP was bad. Underwhelming and low effort, sure, but it's still Diamond and Pearl at its core, and has improvements on the original. Besides, that wasn't even developed by Nintendo
