This is easily my most anticipated game for next year. Heck, this by default just becomes my favourite switch game. I can’t believe this game is actually getting a remake. I can’t wait to see more.
Same!! I only played this game for the first time in 2020 through dolphin emulator (definitely not the age range to grow up with a gamecube) and it was one of the best games I've played! I'm so excited to play it on official hardware next year and contribute to it selling enough to show nintendo we want another paper mario in the old style.
@@santaisreal I first got it I'd say roughly a year after it released and I was around ten at the time I played it and it quickly became my favorite game of all time and it has remained so, uncontested to this day. It's straight up the most amazing Mario game for me. I really hope the remake gathers a whole new audience and, more importantly, I'm glad more people can experience this game in a much easier way.
The footprints in east rogueport and the noose swaying were actually in the original too! Unless you were specifically pointing out how much easier the footprints are to see
The change hoping for the most is that we’ll get a cutscene at the end showing what happened to Bowser and Kammy after you defeated them in the Palace of Shadows.
I really, really hope the N64 title theme in the trailer was a teaser that this isn't just "TTYD:HD", but "Paper Mario RPG Collection". When I saw The Book, and then the N64 theme played, my thought was this is both titles remade. (it's just, Nintendo HAS to know ttyd remake is more hype than a n64 remake, so perhaps thats all they wanted to tease)
I've never really tried TTYD, I've only played Super Paper Mario on the Wii and I LOVED it!! I'm not a big fan of the combat in RPG's but I might give TTYD a try!
Great analysis as usual! TTYD is one of my favorite games of all time so I can't wait to play this remake which looks stunning and has so many additional details as you mentioned here! 12:24 To be precise, the footprints were also in the original, but barely visible so if they're meant to be a hint they didn't particularly help there. 16:27 Another case of a detail already being in the original, but less noticeable compared to the remake (although unlike the footprints I did notice the noose swinging while playing that version). 17:30 It's worth mentioning that TEC's camera was already red in the original Japanese version and was changed elsewhere most likely to avoid resemblance to HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey so we might see some also other graphics from that version in the remake (although I doubt we'll see the wine, the bunny-suit Boos and especially the chalk with blood)!
@@yellowwinner1 Yep, would be a good compromise indeed, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this remake in general and the potential stuff from the Japanese version kept this time around in particular!
Imagine this came with a Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass addition. Id be a cool mini RPG or if its too time constraining for the team then it'd be cool if it was 2d like Super Paper Mario, plus it would give them some practice in case they decide to remake that game down the line. This is just wishful thinking obviously I'm just happy that we're getting a TTYD remake in the first place!
That would have been cool if it was a Paper Mario Trilogy Remaster thats packaged with 3 games featuring Paper Mario 64, Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario from the Wii but I'm happy we're getting remaster of this game and can't wait to play it again.
9:31 why is everybody pointing out that they changed the line being spoken by the professor instead of Goombella, but nobody is pointing out that the exclamation point (!) at the end of thr text has been replaced by a period (.) Seriously, when I watched the trailer, THAT was the thing that I noticed, and not the other thing. Because punctuation matters 😂🤣
There is ONE odd little change I didn't see mentioned Mangus Von Grapple for some reason has little yellow wings/horns after he does his spin right off the back of his bubble.
If I remember correctly, the speakers are there in the original, but we never see them because of the aspect ratio of the camera. There's a GameShark code or a mod for emulator that activates a 16/9 mode where you can see them.
I really hope that the 30fps doesn't affect the gameplay in this remake. If the Super Mario RPG remake is getting 60fps, then why can't this game have it as well?
The battle in the update interests me. Instead of battling four Goombas, there're now five. Is it because of the wider screen? Is that why an extra enemy is present? Or am I misremembering something? As for the dialogue changes, those are okay. Junior is more precise than just saying 'student' and calling someone a 'lunkhead' instead of 'airhead' shouldn't be a problem. Both are insults, after all. And, going by the definitions of those words, the change makes Bowser meaner (IMO).
Great pickup! I’m not to sure > could just be for the trailer to show off the wider screen. Either way, small changes like these I don’t mind! As long as they don’t change things like Toadsworth for a Toad haha
I’m hoping they forget to change a couple localizations that they changed in the original international versions Obviously, TEC’s camera is now red instead of blue The boos in the casino/item store are wearing bunny ears instead of cat ears Chalk outline in the “Bandit’s” house is present Mario gets possessed when you work with the shadow queen instead of him just sitting there Vivian being trans is now localized
6:26 ok hear me out what if this ends up being a secret like in the original paper mario where if you wait on the start of chapter screen it starts playing the overworld theme from the original super mario bros, the fact that they actually made this game line up with super paper mario makes me think they would actually do something like this
So far, I still prefer the original GC version. Changing the word airhead to lunkhead.. As small as they might be, I don't support dialogue changes. I bet they didn't even remove the western Flurry censorship about who/what she really is. Also, now it looks more cardboard then paper. (Me nitpicking..) That said, I wonder if there will be a faithful translation patch from fans. 🤔
I dont like the lighting change, the charm of the first was the book look, now theres shadows that look a bit too realistic for me, i think ill keep my gamecube version, thank you
paper mario fans complaining about the white boarders when i show them the menu animation for super paper mario on the wii menu (the characters and objects have white outlines)
I'm personally a big fan of Paper Mario, TTYD and Super's original design. I'm also a BIG fan of the TTYD Remakes Design to... I enjoy the white outline, but not when it's to thick. But that's just a personal preference. :)
tbh the white outline “argument” is fucking stupid imo like complain about the game mechanics and story, not some outlines that affect nothing about the game in the first place
While I do like most of what I've seen so far, I think they are still leaning too heavily into the paper aesthetic. I preferred it when the water was closer to what other games had done and had less of a papercraft look. I have always been of the opinion that the English renaming of the series really hurt it overall and things like this just feed into the very mentality that led to the decline of the series.
Interesting! I can understand your point of view. I’m super glad it’s not overbearing like Colour Splash/Origami King! Literally fighting utensils haha.
@@GKoopa I don't think it looks gorgeous at all. If anything it is tacky and distracting. Instead of looking like a video game pop-up book it looks like a papercraft diorama which is less immersive than what we had before. I thought that TTYD leaned too heavily into the papercraft aesthetic and was glad when they toned it down again in SPM. Similarly, I didn't like the arts and crafts styles of the recent Yoshi games and Kirby's Epic Yarn either for the same reason.
@@Swiftjar To me, it is very close to reaching that overbearing point. Then again, I've disliked the arts and crafts style in the vast majority of games I've seen attempt it. The most recent Yoshi games, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Little Big Planet, Sackboy's Big Adventure, etc. I've been able to tolerate some of them if the gameplay and internal story are good enough but most of them don't have that.
This is really thorough and everything, but he kinda just threw around words like ‘realistic’ and ‘immersive’ and _’more better’_ whenever they didn’t fit
0:56 "Full blown remake" - This is a remaster, not a remake. It's so blatantly clear Nintendo is updating the old game, not creating a new game from scratch. "Full blown remake" is a "full blown lie."
It's ridiculously funnier than the first paper mario and it's much longer because it has a huge side quest post game. There's a lot of cultural references too.
I think the original looks just as good and even better in some ways honestly and it isn't even necessary for a remake. I think a port would've been better especially with the frames now being lowered to 30, and since I can play the original anytime I want, anywhere I want on my steam deck, I wont be getting it personally. But if this leads to more Paper Mario RPG games, then I hope it does well.

One thing I hope is that they add Luigi’s story as playable content like a shorter side story like Nintendo’s done for a lot of other remakes
Yes!!! Luigi side story based on his stories would be epic!
Looking forward to the play where Luigi is cast as grass in the background!
I hope this game gets many sales so nintendo understands they have to bring back the old gimicks of Paper marios
As do I!!!

For real!!
I don't know anything about this game, besides the fact it's most people's favorite Paper Mario game
I'm quite excited to play this remake myself

I've never really tried TTYD, I've only played Super Paper Mario on the Wii and I LOVED it!! I'm not a big fan of the combat in RPG's but I might give TTYD a try!

If you have NSO Expansion Pack, give Paper Mario 64 a try for about 3 hours. If you enjoy that and even complete it, you'll LOVE TTYD!

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the chalk, just without the blood. It would be good middle ground 😅

Great analysis there. I am so excited to play this I may fire up my gamecube version and start now!
Glad you enjoyed it! I cannot wait myself. I haven’t played in years and I hyped myself up by making this.
I can't wait to finally play this game. This is the best Paper Mario Game there is in the series.
That would have been cool if it was a Paper Mario Trilogy Remaster thats packaged with 3 games featuring Paper Mario 64, Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario from the Wii but I'm happy we're getting remaster of this game and can't wait to play it again.
Would also be cool! But I’d rather them remake them individually to ensure polish and no shortcuts. 😅

If I remember correctly, the speakers are there in the original, but we never see them because of the aspect ratio of the camera. There's a GameShark code or a mod for emulator that activates a 16/9 mode where you can see them.
I believe you’re correct! Either way, I am loving the little added details. 😊
You can see them when the camera rotates for Shy Guy spectators running on stage.
i betting its a duel realease or a switch 2 exclusive
I hope they have a feature where you can still play the original soundtrack during the game as well
I pray to God, they don’t sneak in the invisible paper, peach joke that traumatized me
About TEC’s eye, it’s red in the GCN JPN version of the game, but it’s new for other releases
Never knew that!!! Thanks for letting me know and commenting friend. 😊
You can tell they put a lot of care into this. I hope they do this treatment for the original!

The Goomba Bros in the Glitz Pit had five Goombas. It was always possible, just not common.
Fair point. I didn’t remember that. It’s been a VERY long time since I last played this game.
I can't wait for this game! Great analysis!

The shape of Bowser’s dialogue box when he screams is also different!
I'm a bit worried they changed the dialogue a bit. What if they made this change in the new remake of SMRPG? I hope not
Let’s hope they haven’t taken it to far! I’m confident they haven’t!
I’m EXCITED and this video is excellent
Thank you so much!!! Glad you enjoyed it.
17:37 Though TEC's light was red in the original Japanese version...
When will you make your updated predictions for wave 6?
Hoping in a week or two!
