Hi, great lesson, thanks. quick question! It really looks like you are muting that D string (the G note) in the Eb9 at 1:45. Are you? Seems like you really only hit the top 3, sometimes 4, strings anyway -- so ... ?
James Brown wasn’t really an instrumentalist. He was a fantastic, energetic dancer with a screamin’ voice, but not much for developing guitar chord voicings, so I give most cred to his geetar man
Boy, there are a million guitar teachers and preachers on TH-cam but these lessons by far are more helpful to me because she's not trying to show her chops just smiling and teaching. Thanks! I'm sold.
I grew up in Southern CA in the '60's, listening to James Brown (along with all the other greats of that period). NEVER, in my wildest dreams, did I ever think that 50 years later, I'd have a white, teenage, girl, from Canada, explaining the technicalities of Mr. Brown's music. Life is FULL of surprises, isn't it?
Alya, you rock!! There aren’t many lady guitar teachers out there on the internet and it’s inspiring to learn from you and watch you shred! Thanks girl
Ayla = MUST WATCH! Great material and dive into the mechanics. I also wish that we could rate associated commercials since the SONAR Works mini-tutorials are outstanding and I never skip them 😎.
Extremely nice attitude, clearly puts music first, impeccable groove and doesn't fall into the "i'm a girl and I play the guitar please look at me" scheme, which is so damn soothing.

I use a variation of that dominant 9th chord, a minor 9th, in bossa nova all the time. It's a great chord. Also I love that Stratocaster! I've always been a telecaster kind-of-guy but that strat is gorgeous.
@@Big_Bag_of_Pus Yeah that's it exactly, you don't fret the high string, so it's x7577x. By moving the index finger to the fifth fret you are flatting the third of the chord.
Thanks great lesson. Because I have short stubby fingers my fingering reach is somewhat limited. I cannot bring my finger down flat enough to bar that lower E string and for the Eb9 chord I have to slightly move my fingers off the pressing of that cord to give me the reach to the 8 fret. Despite these limitations this is something I can incorporate into my playing. Great that you show the chords on the left side in a good size and provide the link. I take a photo of them with my smart phone and pull them up when I practice. I was unlucky not to be born with long bony fingers but I am able to get by with what I have. Thanks and have a great day.
Hi Ayla. I stumbled upon your videos today. I think you should expand on the topic of funk with a discussion of strumming technique. Thanks for the great videos. I'm looking forward to watching more.
Thank you so much for all your good advice and had I not found your site I will still be but with your help I think I've moved follihair so thank you again so much for being generous God bless you

😆 No doubt

Unselfish attitude. Nice lesson. Easy to follow. Well delivered. 👍
I love your playing Ayla... and wonderful lesson... thank you.
You’re so cool at what you do and matched up with Carson just elevates it all.

Just bar the 3 high strings anywhere, instant funk 🤷♂️
dont forget to slide it 2 frets higher
You know why? Wanna know the secret of funk?
Well there it is: it ain't bout the notes. It's all about the rhythm.
Definitely don't worry about playing the root. That's the bass players job. The 1 on 1.
Don't even worry about the bottom strings.. seriously, mute them and smack your fingers or your pick into the top strings, instant funk.
