    I've drooled over pictures of that plane on the internet. It was great to see a review. I could never spend that kind of money on a plane, but I still find it interesting. I don't understand the guys who get bent out of shape when someone reviews tools they can't afford. On my budget, I mostly buy rusty planes that need work, but there's no reason to not appreciate the joy on someone else's face when they use a really nice, premium tool, like this one.

    At my first internship I got a blockplane for my work. It was a cheepo stanley with imposible pakage. That is one of the wide ones like this, but it just felt uncomfortable. Later I asked my classmates and they all had those narrow planes, from stanley or luban or dictum, and they felt great. I thought that was becouse of the with. But in my latest internship I lerned it was about the finger holes. The veritas wide one had 3 holes. I thought that looked stupid but it felt super nice in the hand. And after the wide veritas the narrow planes felt off. So maybe becouse the lack of fingerholes is why your hand hurts. Becouse you need to deathgrip it as not to drop it

      That is a very good point! I use to have the veritas with 3 indents and it did feel better now that I think about it. Thank you!!!

    Nice video! I am owner of this Clifton block plane and I can confirm that O1 cryogenic steel has nothing to envy to A2 steel

      Off the wall questions. How do they harden cryogenticly O1 steel as this grade is ment to be Oil hardened.
      Second, How do they harden A1 steels?

    Not only do I have small hands but also short arms and deep pockets.
    The Veritas DX is the most comfy block plane. If the DX is the fancy Toyota, the NX is the Lexus version at more than double the price (in Australia at least). The Clifton as others have called it is the Cadillac, so does make it a pimp''s plane?
    The size and weight of the plane make it more of a small and versatile smoother than a dedicated block plane.

    I love these plane videos. I picked up the add on tote and knob for my Veritas low angle block because of one of your videos. I've got a question for you. I have the LN 101 and 102 and absolutely love them except for the lack of adjustable mouth and lateral adjustment. I'm wondering what the smallest block plane is that has these features? The LN 60 1/2 is a little smaller than my Veritas and has an adjustable mouth but looks like no lateral. The Veritas apron plane has the lateral but no mouth adjustment. Do you of know anything that has been made with both that is closer in size to the 102?

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joe! Check out the Veritas dx60. It is the sixe of the ln 60.5, has an adjustable mouth and lateral.
      The apron planes don't have adjustable mouths but the veritas has lateral.
      The veritas pocket plane doesn't have an adjustable mouth but it has lateral. The pocket plane doesn't need an adjustable mouth that mouth is tight and can really get tighter hahaha
      I hope that helps!

    Thanks, Jamie! Did you ever make a comparison on fore planes and/or jointer planes? I see that the Clifton no. 6 weighs 4 kilos (4000 grams), and already with my Clifton 5 1/2 I feel like I'm holding a bulldozer or a bazooka, ie. something very, very dangerous, whereas the Veritas bevel--up jointer looks … kind … something that is not designed to scare the kids …

      Thank you! No I haven't :( one day I would like to but I have to catch up before I start putting it out there that I'm looking to borrow tools haha

    • @finniunker860
      @finniunker860 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BatCaveCreations Another very strange thing would be to compare the low angle jointer to the mini shoulder, or start with these two at each opposite end, then look at the second biggest vs. the second smallest, etc., and see which one is most in the middle.

    I have one it's a older one with Bubinga instead of walnut, i prefer the heavier plane's and for me it fits very comfortably in my hand, i do have a lot of Clifton plane's the first ones, which i think are the better ones personally, i do have hundreds of vintage plane's from Stanley, SS Record Norris , Matheson, Slater, Preston, Holland, Veritas, and the Lie Nielsen, and many more, but i do love using the SS Records and The Clifton's.
