Most bands have a lead guitar, a rhythm guitar, and a bass guitar. The lead guitarist is the better player and does the solos while the rhythm guitarist plays the rhythm and chords behind it. However, Lovebites is one of the elite level bands who has TWO lead guitarists. This means that they are both skilled enough to play lead and solo, which they do in every song. They take turns soloing while the other plays rhythm, switching back and forth as needed. Several legendary heavy metal bands had dual lead guitars - Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer, Megadeth, and Testament.
Lovebites has two guitarists since both Midori and Miyako play off each other. Nobody's the lead, nobody's the rhythm, although technically, Miyako started with Lovebites as second guitar, meaning Midori would have been the lead guitarist. The pair just evolved into a killer guitar duo who complement each other.
@@eatsmylifeYT If you mean that Miyako became a full member of LOVEBITES about 14-15 months after the band was formed, then I agree with you. You could say that Miyako was the 'second guitar', since she was a support musician (guest). If we draw conclusions from the guitar parts, starting with 'The Lovebites EP' (the first release of LOVEBITES, May 2017), then we can say that Midori and Miyako are two equal guitarists, playing approximately the same number of solos. Although at the time of the release of 'The Lovebites EP', Miyako was a permanent member of two other bands ( 21G and SONIC LOVER RECKLESS ), and in LOVEBITES she was a guest support musician.

Welcome to the realm of the Wolfpack (Lovebites fans from around the world) ! These amazing ladies play a seamless and innovative blend of multiple metal & rock genres/sub-genres which makes their music unique and contemporary. This band has 2 lead guitarists (Midori on stage right and Miyako on stage left). When one plays lead/solo, the other will play rhythm, and they also come together to harmonize their solos (like they did in this video). As you have just witnessed, Lovebites is phenomenal LIVE ! For something less thrashy, check out "Judgement Day" LIVE on their official YT channel.
Just another tidbit: This concert was in 2021 and Miho (Bass player and co-founder) left the band a little later. So all videos on or before 2021 is the Miho era.
The 2021 Concert has a great stage performance by the band, but due to COVID restriction, the energy level doesn't seem to be all there.
The 2020 Concert, Five of a Kind, is a great concert from beginning to end. Energy from the crowd and the band, and 19 songs of pure non-stop speed from beginning to end. Honestly, I am not sure how Haruna, the drummer, kept up the speed all night.
The Fami era started in later 2022 with the Album Judgment Day and in March of 2023 the first live performance since 2021 showing off Fami. They released 8 songs and all show a different style of play from the Band that shows why they are so awesome. Plus, the Band upped their game for this two day show and it really shows!!!

About the outfits. When Lovebites was touring Europe as the opening act for Dragonforce a French metal magazine interviewed Asami (singer) about the dresses. She responded, "We're girls, we don't want to dress like boys. Also, we are all small and the white and gold makes it easier to see us on stage." And the ARE small. The drummer, Haruna, is only 4' 9". The tallest, Miyako (black haired guitarist) is 5' 2".

Thanks for reacting to amazing Lovebites and spreading the word because they deserve more recognition. Midori and Miyako are outstanding guitarists, both playing lead and rhythm as needed, and those twin lead guitar solos are already legendary, in just 7 years. Asami was a R&B, soul and jazz singer before she joined the band. Miyako (black hair guitarist) is also a concert level classical pianist. Miyako, the guitarist with black hair, was 4 or 5 months pregnant when this concert took place. They were all on stage for nearly 2 hours without a break, and on some songs Miyako switches between guitar and piano and back (she is a classically trained pianist). The singer, Asami, has several years training as a ballet dancer and was a R&B singer before she joined Lovebites. The blond 'Amazon Warrior' guitarist is Midori. Every single member of the band is a superb musician, amongst the best I have ever heard.
Shortly after this concert which is from 2021, the original bass player Miho, and co founder with drummer Haruna, left the band for personal reasons and the band went on hiatus. They recruited a new bassist, a 20 year old prodigy, Fami, toward the end of 2022 and performed their first concert with her in March 2023. This year, 2024, they are doing a tour of Europe, kicking off in London on 14th June, and will be playing their first ever show in the USA later in the year.
One of the best bands I have heard in my nearly 75 years, I'm excited to be going to see them play in London in June.
A song I would recommend giving a listen to is 'A Frozen Serenade'. A song very different in style to that you have just heard, but is demonstrates the breadth of ability in this band.

Good reaction. In terms of the technique of mastering musical instruments and the ability to compose music, LoveBites are among the best metal bands in the world today. LoveBites is a heavy metal band from Tokyo (Japan). The band was formed in 2016. The band included experienced musicians who have experience playing in other metal bands:
Miho - bass, backing vocals
Haruna - drums,
Midori - guitar, backing vocals (blonde)
Miyako - guitar, backing vocals, keyboards, piano (brunette)
The only member of the band who was not related to metal was Asami - lead vocals, piano. Before LoveBites, Asami studied classical ballet for many years (over 15 years) and dance for many years. Asami then became an R&B, Soul and Jazz singer. Before becoming a member of the LoveBites, Asami collaborated with many popular Japanese and Korean groups and artists (as a guest vocalist).
In a very short period of time, LoveBites received international recognition. Two years after their formation, they received a very prestigious award from Metal Hammer: in June 2018, LoveBites won the Golden Gods, in the category of Best New Band! The Award presentation took place in Great Britain (London). During the existence of the Golden Gods, many famous rock/metal bands and musicians of the world became laureates of this Award. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, LoveBites performed (in 2018-2019) at several of the largest heavy music festivals in Europe and Japan.

Holy moly, you jumped right into the deep end. Congratulations on finding the most talented metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later.

Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. She is self-taught on the guitar.
