I do want to point out that slavery wasn't really THAT long ago. around 170 years ago. so it could have literally been his great grandma (if she was a slave as a child) or his great-great grandma (who would've been a slave as an adult). And it's also important to realize how just because slavery was "abolished" at the emancipation proclamation, it was still happening until June 19, 1865. Also, even after slavery ended fully, Jim Crow and segregation lasted all the way into the 1960s. That's only years before my own dad was born (I'm in my 20s). So all this shit is still not that long ago.
