I have four car ramps which I feel safer instead of being under a car on jack stands. I have used all four ramps many times Changing transfer oil, transmission oil and rear differential. I only use a jack stand as a backup to a pump car jack when removing a tire
Just want to confirm the you filled on the level hole on the side? I filled through the top hole until it over flowed but it took more than the manual said. Upon closer inspection I found the level hole on the side, took out the plug and 350ml came out lol.
I have a question? By looking at your video while you said you have to cut off some length of hex bite but there is another hex plug like above the plug that you have unscrewed. My question is could that be the filler plug. Thanks in advance for answering.
The fill plug for replacement fill will never be above the differential. However with first fill by the manufacturer, they use the upper one for ease but ensure they do not overfill it. The proper level of fluid is to the bottom of the fill hole used in this video(fill hole will be in line with lower part of differential or just below bottom of differential as differential should not be submerged in oil or it will leak out seals)
Great video, thanks. I think those tires are Continental PureContact LS. I have them on my Corollas and love them for it’s dry and wet grip although I drive normally.
@@elmermolina8343 yes just over fill it and let it trickle out to a drip tighten the bolt and your good to go that goes for the front and rear diff also fill till it trickles out to a drip pit the bolt tighten it and your good
Hi, great video. Would it possible the next time you lift the car, can you show us the jack points you used for this tutorial? Looks like ur jack pts r safer than others vids.
Unfortunately we don’t have the vehicle anymore. It got totaled earlier this year. Just look for a solid spot and that’s where you’ll set your jacks for the vehicle to rest on.
What is Power transfer unit ?? Is it the same as transmission oil ? How often should i change each kind of oils...engine oil...transmission oil...power transfer unit oil...differential oil....
Power transfer unit is similar to a transfer case. In this case, sends power to the rear wheels. It is not the same as trans oil, its special gear oil. I change it every 30k miles. Follow what your manual says to do though.
I don’t have the specific link since I bought it in store, but it’s a HDX 1/2 gallon sprayer. I got the 1/2 gallon sprayer since drivetrain requires little oil. I use bigger sprayers for transmission flushes where it requires gallons at a time.
I have a 2021 Toyota Rav4 Adventure trim with Dynamic Torque Vectoring rear differential and I can't locate the fill plug, can anyone please help? Thanks

@@temosgarage right on! Yeah I have a 2020 rav 4 and the dealer gives several free oil changes and tire rotations, and as you know the vehicle display pops up with these service visit alarms that are kind of a nuisance but anyways, yeah as soon as the grace period for free oil changes and tire rotations was over they started charge like $150, then this last time they wanted a total of around $900 to include the front and rear AWD fluid change. I passed on that offer and figured I better do some research.
@@CharlieMacklin1 I’m glad you found my video helpful. Depending on how mechanical inclined you are, it’s pretty easy and straight forward. And the best of it all, you know it was done right
Can someone help, I have a 2016 RAV4 and I changed the differential fluid in the Rear. Is there another location up front that needs to be changed (that is not part of the transmission)?
Hi Jason, I am not familiar with the 4th Gen drivetrain. But, if I had to guess, the transfer unit should be in the same spot as this 5th Gen; connected next to the transmission.
Is transfer case the same as front differential? I’ve been told to change both rear and front differentials fluids but only see front transfer case + rear differential fluids change
Both look different than my 2019 RAV4 Adventure, but still helpful. You have a lot more room to work compared to mine.
RAV4 Limited & Adventure have different rear diff than LE or XLE

Good for you for exercising a high degree of caution with the ramps. These jack stands are just as safe as the ramps.

The very top plug is for the factory only. They use it before the chassis is put on.

I had a set on a previous car and got to 58k miles with them. Only had to get new bc of dry rot on one tire and still had tread left!
You are awesome! Thanks for the new video!
You should have over filled both and let it overflow to a Trickle then tighten the bolts
I did, that part was edited out to keep video short. Wiped it clean and sprayed brake cleaner to get rid of any oil residue around the fill plug.

did you re-use the same crush washer?
Hi, how many liters dose it requires for rear diff, and transfer?
I don’t remember. It’s been a while now. That gallon jug in the video will be plenty for maybe two jobs.
The jack supports on the frame rail were not used?
I guess not. It’s been a while since I made the video. Doesn’t matter though, as long as you’re supporting the vehicle on a solid part of the vehicle
Is this a tutorial on transfer case oil too or is this just rear differential oil?
I’m trying to learn on my own.
Thanks!
It’s for both. Watch the whole video
what about the rav4 hybrid 2020? does it needs changing too every?
If your hybrid is an AWD then yes.
What kind of pump did you use to fill the fluids? Please send the link ,thanks

1 quart of the fluid will be enough to do both right ?
Not at all. One gallon (4qts) will be plenty to do both. You’ll have some left over.
I have a 2021 Toyota Rav4 Adventure trim with Dynamic Torque Vectoring rear differential and I can't locate the fill plug, can anyone please help? Thanks
Were you able to find it? I am not sure if they share the same differentials just separate internals.
Can you do this with one set of ramps?
Great video! Thank you, may attempt this myself now. Subscibed!
It’s really super easy!
Thanks for the support!
Question, at 5:35 you mentioned you had to trim some of the hex bit to fit in there. How did you do that? Do they not make short ones?

Hi how much oil take for differential and transfer case I have 2018 rv4
I am not sure on the 2018. It should be on the Owners Manual

Hi, I have a few question did you use the same Redline 75W-85 oil on the transfer case and Rear differential on your Toyota Rav4 5th gen?
Yes I did
How is the Redline oil working for you?
It worked fine while I had the vehicle. It got totaled last year.

Front differential is part of the transmission on this car. The front will be serviced when you drain/fill the transmission fluid.
Nope, Wrong Front Transfer Case Is Different From The Transmission
