I have a TRD off road (manual) and have only used the locking rear diff once, when I went skiing and had to dig out a 4 foot drift. I'm going for the Sport this time with the manual. I'd love to hear what other people think is best?
It’s funny how the talk around this truck and all trucks of any brand for that matter, it’s about Overland or/and off road (sure it can be useful for those things). But not a mention of how useful can be for people in the trades and use this vehicle normally for WORK to carry materials and tools which originally was its main purpose.
The vehicle can tow anywhere from 6000-6500lbs and up to 1,709 payload capacity depending on trim. Those are decent numbers for a mid size. What else did you need to know?
Since the first time I watch these with you guys going over this model . I waited till last week to get the trd sport. I needed a truck with looks and capabilities of getting me to work safe with the option of helping a friend out if needed and some minor outdoor stuff like fishing nothing big. I can’t be more happy with my 24 trd sport with 4K trd package out the door for 50k.. thanks guys..
This was such an excellent review. Love the chemistry between you two and the desire to not bombard me with a 30 minute video but still have tons of info.
I am buying at the end of 2024. I am leaning toward a mid-size truck, but will consider lower trim 1/2 ton trucks. I will be towing a 2,900 lb Casita trailer and I would like 1,500 lbs of payload. The TRD Sport would be my preferred trim. LOL, my wife would love the blue outside and in. Of course, price, reliability, and safety are important variables as well.
pro tip if you get the JBL system: TAKE THE CENTER SPEAKER OUT and put it somewhere far far away. IMO, it makes the sound system quite a bit worse because it seems to be engineered to 'feature' it and it's just not good.
Hold up! I’m curious why plumbers and window guys will have leaf springs? I know it’s somewhat of a joke, but why is it? I’ve just never heard this comparison. usually it’s painters or drywaller.
I can spend $50K plus on a new Tacoma Sport only to have the frame rust in half. Then take to Toyota dealer after I get recall from Toyota so they can spray black tar all over everything to buy a little more time so they don’t have to fix the correct way.
I love the exterior design but honestly hate the seat quality. I understand some people want ruggedness but they’re just too cheap. Plus I’m 6’1 and would be tight in that backseat.
Excellent review! I just subscribed. You knew all about which trims were leaf v coils! Do you know anything about when we can expect to see a TRD Offroad? I’m hoping for a manual transmission in that?
Yes, there will be a TRD off road trim as well, it was just not built yet at the time of this event. And YES the manual will be available on it as well.
Manual will be available on the SR, TRD Sport, and TRD Offroad. It won’t be available on SR5, TRD Prerunner, Limited, TRD Pro, or Trailhunter. Additionally it won’t be available on the Xtracab; Only on the double cab (I think Toyota missed the mark by not offering it on the Xtracab, Prerunner, or Pro)
Will all models have the wireless trailer camera system. You talked about it on the limited, but not on the sport? I see this has 1 fin, instead of 3 fins on the limited where you talked about the wireless system. Thanks guys !!
Thanks for well thought review. I am on the fence between the Taco and the Tundra. Of course I know they are completely different vehicles but I think the Taco would be a better fit for me. Thank you guys for the review.
I'd go with the Tacoma personally. I have one and LOVE it, but looked at a Tundra a while back and although they're beautiful and awesome trucks, in the end I stayed with my Tacoma.
CVT Transmissions on all but 6 I saw one comment the 6 speed manual has a switch. How can you call a CVT Transmissions 8 speeds is that where it rides on the pulley Im skeptical about this especially on wheel drives.
I’m not totally following you, but there is not a CVT on the future tacomas. Just 10 speed auto (identical to current Tundra) and a 6 speed manual (non hybrid only). I hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@TexasTruckChannel understood all transmissions are now CVT. Exception the manual 6 speed but there a post in this where one person posted even the manual transmission can be shifted automatically with a button that could be pushed to make it shift automatically. The discussion started by it would be hard to steal because most people don’t know how to drive a manual. Anyway I appreciate you taking the time to try and help. Toyota owns a in part of company in Alabama Aiysin who’s making their transmissions and they are CVT’s.
that composite bed liner makes things slide around like its on ice! Do they still have the old style gas cap with a plastic tether? and the cheap little gas cap door that has the hinge rot off. Im now on my third replacement for those on my 2015
I really like the exterior and interior of this new Tacoma. I'm very disappointed the rumors of the 4 cyl only option only were correct. So, as the world moves forward, the number of cylinders has dropped, and the price goes up. Looks like the Frontier is on my radar because of this Toyota flop.
This is all due to emissions requirements in the states. Not mpg requirements, emissions. Sadly Toyota is not alone in this. We will miss the 3.5 v6, but we have driven the new turbo 4 in other vehicles, and it certainly gets the job done.
@Texas Truck Channel Well, if that's the case, all vehicles built would only have turbo 4 cylinder options, from Frontiers to Corvettes. As I said, there are fewer cylinders for a higher MSRP. ( to be determined ). Bunch of Criminal. This new Tacoma sounds like a ragged out old Corolla. It's so aggravating.

You boys at Texas truck always do a great job that's why I've watched you for yrs, however this Tacoma is a good midsize truck for what it is, but not only myself several other channels all agree this 2024 Tacoma as well as all Tacoma's are WAY over rated...it's obvious to everyone and simply Ridiculous!
Well let’s see how right you are. What is the ground clearance in the 2023 Tacoma vs 2024 Tacoma? The engine is smaller but more powerful because of the addition of the turbo and hybrid. It’s like a trifecta. So what are the horsepower and torque ratings of the 2023 Tacoma vs 2024 Tacoma? I bet once you research and find out the answer to both questions you’ll discover you were talking out of yer butt!
The battery was low from a lot of lights on, while the engine was off over several days of filming. Toyota warned us ahead of the shoot and had a jump box on standby.

Would have to add a rear locker, but the sport look much better than the off-road.

I have a 2018 Sport and I LOVE it. LOVE it. It's perfect for what I need and exactly what I wanted, for the reason (among others) that you mentioned.
I want a trd Sport. I don't do a lot of off-roading so it's the more street friendly model for me. And I want the back seat for my animals & friends.

Too bad we lose the V6.Four banger with turbo mean less reliability long term.
Go back to the 4.0, but modernize it for more output and better mpg, and add the same hybrid.
