  • I cannot emphasize enough that some basic know how is required before carrying this out. This video gives a general basic overview and there's actually more things that can be done to help the motor which I will cover in a future video.
    ***I am NOT a motor expert and will gladly troll the commenters that fail to see me stating this very obvious sentence.
    Only attempt this "repair" if you are stuck with no other option but to buy a replacement motor, because worst case this fails or you make total crap of it - you are in the same boat!
    -------
    In today's video I am covering a motor repair on a customer’s scooter that had broken down recently. The mobility scooter was jerking and randomly changing speeds as it was travelling.
    When I had a look at the scooter it seemed to be related to the motor and gearbox area and that then became the first area to start digging deeper into...
    So I took off the cap for the motor "brushes" to see the condition of the brushes and the receiver inside the motor - basically to see if there was any damage or carbon build up.
    Once I took out the brushes I seen they were practically gone and looking further into the motor I could see there was a lot of carbon build inside the area where the brushes touch the motor.
    Usually most mobility repair companies like to sell customers a broken motor, however these things are around €400-€500 to buy and that's even if the manufacturer has one that will fit a 10 year old machine! Anyway, what customer is going to spend that sort of money for something of that age, they are nearly halfway to buying a new scooter then!
    So today within a short period of time, this scooter destined for the dump - got a new lease of life. Hopefully it can help you out if you have a scooter with a similar issue and always feel free to ask questions in the comments before in case you have a doubt.
    Hope you enjoyed the video and please like and subscribe.

    I've just done my shopriders motor and when I pulled brush housing off that black wobbly washer came flying out. After I cleaned it and was about to put it all back together I had no idea where that washer was meant to go back. Been searching all day and this was the only place I could find even a sign of where it is meant to be. On top of the BBS. 3.am😓 Thank you so much for doing this video. Really has helped me.😊👍

      Glad to have helped , them washers tend to disappear fairly quick, glad you found it!

      @@themobilityguy are there meant to be 2 of them washers? One under the BB and one sit on top?

    • @themobilityguy
      @themobilityguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesd9337 I think it’s only the top one as the bottom one usually sits in a flush bearing
      Don’t think it would be really really bad if you were missing one but again I think there was only ever one in the top that goes in

    Hello, I have a Ventura DLX4 Scooter, it has a strange problem, sometimes it is stopped, and when I accelerate forward it does not do so, suddenly it accelerates with a sudden force that is dangerous to hit someone, sometimes it is difficult to start the acceleration . When I try to move backwards he does it with little force and with pushing. A technician changed the drivers, he said that was what he had, but he keeps doing the same thing. Any suggestions or help to repair it. I appreciate it a lot.

    Is there a liquid cleaner or degreaser I could use instead of sand paper, that won't harm the motor? Could I use dish soap and a toothbrush for example?

    I cleaned my scooter motor following your video. When I put the motor back in the scooter, it goes in reverse when I want to go forward, and goes forward when I want to go in reverse. Also, the brake no longer will engage. I put the motor together just the way I took it apart. Please help!!!!

    • @themobilityguy
      @themobilityguy  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You didn’t put the motor together correctly , the motor had two magnets built into it , south and North Pole
      So , the case of the motor is 180 degrees the opposite of what it was , take out the two bolts on motor and turn the case of the motor 180 degrees , and screw it back in
      The brake not working , unrelated to motors as that’s a separate connection, so you’ve either buried the brake disc onto the head of the motor as you’re supposed to line up the head of the motor to the brake disc that’s inside the brake , or you’ve got a connection issue or the brake is in neutral

    Hi do you know if there is a way to use a escooter controller on a powerchair ?

    • @themobilityguy
      @themobilityguy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Easier to replace the controller with the correct one and not jerryrig something together, at the end of the day someone is in it and it’s somewhat dangerous going that route converting

      Ok thanks for the reply. I've had 2 people look at it and they can't figure out what is wrong with it so I guess it's getting scrapped 😊 xx

    Could this be the reason the motor gets hot and the scooter slows down to a stop after running for 1/2 an hour?

    • @themobilityguy
      @themobilityguy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep but also worn brushes could cause that too

      Take your thumb off the throttle. When going downhill you only need enough throttle to keep the brake motor off.
