    Excellent video on die cracks. I found a number of die cracks on a few dimes in the 50’s and 60’s that have die cracks on the DDR side from rim to rim through the words States of. You said their not worth any additional value. Plus have on that has a crack and laminations from olive branch thru E Plurs down to outside of O of One to rim

    Great video Dan. I do a lot of coin roll hunting and I look over nearly every one, not just certain dates. It always amazes me how far the mint pushes their dies past the point of clean results and the difference in quality over certain time periods. Most will never have a clue but to those that visit the 10x-30x coin world, the details we see shed a whole new light on the actual state of the coinage in use. Even though most minor chips and cracks dont add much or any value I still like finding them. Ive started to attempt to track certain chip or crack progressions and its just 1 more fascinating direction one can follow in numismatics. Sorry for the long post but I really like these kind of videos. Id love to see more that maybe detail the mechanics a lil more in depth of certain error types. Thanks again Dan!!! Keep em comin!!!!

    I would like to know if PCGS or other TPG's take points off the grade number for these errors? Like say a coin is in beautiful 69 mint state other than the break/crack/chip/cud --would they cut that 69 down to a lower number purely because of the error? And what about those bubbles; do they affect the grade? I have asked this question elsewhere and received only useless non-answers like "They may count this as a strike flaw" or whatever, like DUH, of course they 'MAY' do anything! I'm asking if anyone knows for sure.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have seen high grade coins up to MS68 with plating bubbles. I can't say that I have seen an MS70 with a die crack or plating bubble. I haven't looked to find one but none of the MS70 that I have handled had either.

      @@audreymuzingo933 You got to be fair, you're asking people who don't work for a TPGS nor have never been a grader. I am confident a coin like that will not get MS70 or PR70. I have seen 10 of thousands of coins but I just can't answer for the TPGS, you might here something different with each phone call.

    • @audreymuzingo933
      @audreymuzingo933 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CoinHELPu Oh, what I meant was your citing a MS68 with plating bubbles is actually more valuable as an answer than what I could expect from anyone (including an employee) making any statement about how they 'would' handle plating bubbles. In other words, proof pudding is better than horse's mouths, ha. That said, we don't know if the other qualities of the coin are what made it a 68, or if it would have been a 69 or 70 without the bubbles, BUT at the very least we can conclude that the bubbles didn't amount to a penalty of 3 or more points. And like I said, that is more information than any I've gotten so far.

I'd pay at least $250 for that. It just has a big "WOW" factor, even when shown to those who aren't coin collectors. Minor die cracks are common but if you have a coin showing a complete die split, from one end of the coin to the other, it will be pretty valuable: at least a couple hundred dollars if the coin is not damaged outside the Mint. It helps if you can see the split on the coin at arm's length. Full die splits are hard to find, especially on older coins. I've got an Indian cent with a die split on the obverse.

    I'm just trying to understand what all the info is on errors and various varieties..Thanks for sharing Daniel...

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Varieties are things that happen to the die design or die face. It is usually a mistake or design changed during the creation of the working die. Could be a gouge or doubled die and sometimes a die break after the die is failing, but varieties happen to the die itself before it strikes the coin.
      A mint error happens during the creation of the planchet or during the strike.

    Man i have several die cracks some that go all the way across. Sucks there not worth nothing. Good to know i will throw them all back into circulation. Got a few struck through cap die too. I guess I'll thrown them back too since they're not worth nothing. I thought they would add value but i guess not. 😂

    Hello Daniel, how are you? I found this video very interesting and I've saved it for a reference in the future but I'm also still puzzled about a coin I have. I know without you actually seeing it its quite difficult for you to say one way or another. Perhaps you could answer a question for me that might help. It's a 1960 penny and it's not in great shape so maybe it's not worth messing with at all. My question is if this coin was made on a planchet that's to large to be a regular penny, keeping it's condition in mind, is it still worth looking into?
    I sure hope that made some kind of sense as you read it. What's your opinion concerning that please? When a coin is struck on the wrong planchet is it a valuable error? Thanks for any help you might provide.

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would need to be looked at in hand. No way to know what is going on, could be damaged or thick planchet.

    Thanks for sharing!!! Me and my dad think we’ve found a shattered die on a 1976 bicentennial Ike. Or it may be a lamination error. Could I send a photo and get your opinion? Want to get it graded but want to make sure it’s worth it...

    I would like to know if u think the doubled dies in various dates that everyone is looking for such as the 1955 or 1969s are actually still out there to be found?

    • @CoinHELPu
      @CoinHELPu  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In change I don't think a 1955 DDO is likely unless someone spends it from a stolen collection. I do believe there's still some 1969 S Cents to be found. A woman found one in her change in our group last year.

    To me a cud, or lamination is a one of a kind coin there are less than there are rpm's and double die. I collect all errors cracked die, cud, laminate errors whatever. I do believe they will get more popular like the strike through grease that are gaining popularity. I have 3 pennies 1983 D cuds on the 3 it's cool because you can see the cud start at the top then it's in the middle then at the bottom, like with every strike it moved may not be the case but it's a cool trio. Talking about air bubbles between layers there's a guy with a 92 Lincoln on Etsy for 10k says very rare double mint mark 2 D' but it's a air bubble in the shape of a D and is in front of Lincoln face. It's food for a laugh check it out.
