Unless its very obvious DD.vs Mech Doubling. Leave it to expert eyes. Wasting on grading (they want modern coins now) cost huge money for mechanical doubling that is not profitable. Check what modern 5c is getting today. Graders are profit centers.
Hello, I hear the differences of double die and mechanical doubling, I have 2 questions, 1 ) can a coin have both types of doubling? .2) with the mechanical doubling, being flat and shelf like in appearance, being said not all coins (Lincoln cents) are nice and have rounded lettering like that on the 1960 series. So does the same criteria go to if the letting is already flat in appearance like the 1990 series that look flat already,?
besides what type of mint error the penny is... would like to know how these types of coins ever even come into circulation? certainly it wasn't in a coin roll.
Ive talked about it in past videos and need to mention it again. No this error you probably would not find in a roll...but a mint sewn bag from the mint you can find them.
Awesome video. Double awesome video. I have no idea what this would be called. Have to wait until next week, unless I get lucky. I really should know what it's called. Thank you so very much for sharing all this info. I put it into my Coin Opp folder. All the Best ~ Shirl
I think I may have a rare coin. It's a 1844 type 4 silver dollar. I took it to a coin dealer and he thought it was fake because the obverse and reverse looks kinda gold-ish. But if you look at its side it looks like silver. He put it on a scale and said it did not way as much as a normal silver doller of that time period. And he said it was not even silver. I was like hmm, is that sooo? So I took it to a pawnshop because I was like if anyone could tell me it was or was not silver it was going to be a pawn shop. And they said it was silver and offered me a woping 10 dollars. I of course did not sell

Great information 😁
Thank you.
There can never bee too many of these videos. I will be recommending this one.
I'm gonna say the error is either an intra-strike damage or machine part impingment.
4 thumbs down? LOL A video trying to inform and help people and it's too bad we can't see who's doing this to helpful and accurate videos.

Well everyone guessed just about that it could be. So I do hope you say what it is.
Brockage would be the last one I could think of. And you said no to that one on another guy. So I don’t have any idea. Unless it a new name. Hummmm

Isn't that plastic from the die
Planchet.
I think double struck. Maybe broad struck
I think the coin error is called a mated coin error
This coin is a triple struck specimen.
Actually this is a bonded coin error. This example sold in Heritage coin auction for $2,650.
