I knew President Sunday in middle/high school. Not literally, but I think we all knew a President Sunday in school.
just to clarify about optometry/ophthalmology and its differences between the professions. an optometrist is generally responsible for refracting your eyes to gather a prescription alongside the diagnosis of eye conditions. they're basically like a GP. opthals on the other hand are far more like a hospital surgeon (because it's practically what they are). they take referrals from optoms and treat/monitor the more important eye conditions such as glaucoma & macular degeneration. they're also responsible for emergency eye surgeries in cases of retinal tears & detachments.
the weird part for optometry contrasted to ophthalmology is that globally, the standards for optometry is inconsistent. an optometrist in somewhere like Europe will open has far less necessities to be qualified compared to a place like Australia, and likewise an Australian optometrist wouldn't be allowed to practice in a place like the US because they don't meet the standards. this is generally because of a historically poor relationship between opthals and optoms, so you'd have the opthals lobbying to prevent optoms from being allowed to do parts of the opthals job. here in Australia, it was only in the last 10 or so years that optoms were allowed to prescribe certain eye-drops like Xalatan & antibiotics for eye infections.
while any random sod could take a year course learning how to do pretesting and how to refract someone's eyes for a prescription; i don't believe they classify as an optometrist in the US (at least to my knowledge).
Doctor vs Surgeon is a bad comparison, but not a terrible comparison.
The optometrist is the doctor and the optometrist is the technician.
Radiologist vs Radiology Tech is a better comparison (but not perfect); one uses the machine and the other interprets the results.
Engineer vs Machinist is probably the most perfect comparison.

As an Industrial and Organizational Psychologist in the US, we definitely throw around the terms psychometrist and psychometrician colloquially though I guess we do have the qualification to do both but we certainly do throw the terms around even with the Master's students as they're generally working as one and/or the other even before their official internships where they work under a Master's level Psychologist. Clinical Psych programs are often the same way in my experience; especially in online forums.
Sounds like its like the title "nutritionist", you dont need a license or certificate to call yourself it. This can be pretty abuseable when new-age nutjobs claim the title, but its a genuine position given to dieticians in public health (at least where i worked)

President sunday is really interesting to me. More specifically interesting as a character. His character seems to be a mix between a very high intelligence, and a very high ego. The interesting thing is how a very high ego acts against intelligence. The ego actively fights with the intelligence not by lowering it, but blinding it to different viewpoints. For example, its impossible for President Sunday to understand Erudites perspective. This leads him to studying Erudite from a more scientific viewpoint. In her story things lead to things, and other things add up. His brain is trying to analyze the evidence essentially. Because the ego is pushing the idea that he's "cracked the case", his brain skips over the ideas that contradict. He like's being the one who see's the world as it truly is. He enjoys being the one who knows something that no one else can see. This leads him to the wrong answers; not because he lacks the intelligence to get to the truth but rather because of his ego. Idk I just think its interesting to listen to him talk through that lens.
He is one of those people that makes me think how society greatly overrates intelligence and treats it as 90% of what a person can give. Things like personal biases, ego, preferences and everything else that add up to your personality are more important than academic intelligence. He is the definition of "If I'm smart -> I'm right -> I'm untouchable" but he either completely skipped the self-reflection part or is too arrogant to engage in it.
@@Nyles_FS Ya, I totally agree. I just find people like this so interesting. Cause like, what happened in his life that made him this way? He clearly has some sense of yearning for being correct. Maybe he had brothers who were super competitive academically. Maybe he was bullied and thought the only way he could regain power is through his intellect. Not that we could ever know any of that. As annoying as he is, I find it super fun to dissect his personality.
