Thanks Sean , I did it all the hard way , kept getting network errors and it sticking on 99% , went online to DJI, first person told me it was not compatible, so I put him straight ! eventually I installed DJI assistant 2 , and did it through that , it's took me most of the day , on a rare day off, but well pleased now , it's been a long time coming !

Great video, I had a few weird errors after the update downloaded and was installing it would scroll about halfway and reboot. It did that about 3 times but finally installed. So happy to see this!

Was wondering if you knew how to set up your current location, in the Smart Controller, when you go into the “fly zone” maps, so that it just comes up as showing your current position when you click onto the map. When I go into mine, it always defaults to Washington DC area. Thx
I bought a DJI refurb Smart Controller for $599 2 months ago in anticipation of this FW update. The new FW is installed and up & running. I have reset the advanced gimbal settings, and I have discovered the right scroll wheel now controls the MA2 Zoom. I will be out for a test flight later this morning.

Great video! Im wondering if with this controler you can flight more than 5km... I am living in a crowded area and have a lot of wifis around... the furthest I've ever flown was 1.3km with a regular controler that came with Mavic Air 2.
I’m not quite sure what you mean by that. With the smart controller they fall down from the bottom. But you don’t want to stick him straight out do you want the flat edge facing towards the drone.

There is a function button on the SC that before had several functions, up and down and sideways. I hope you know what I am referring to, are these functions still active with the Air 2 ?
The "network error" fault is quite common and is documented in the release notes. They recommend using DJI Assistant 2 instead, as per our recent live stream
Usually DJI will make a note when it must be updated Via the assistant 2 As they have done in the past With some of the updates. They need to streamline their update process and stick to one or another. The sloppy way they have it set up now Just causes problems. From what I’ve been reading some people are having success with over the air updates

The reason that it's failing for most is either old firmware or they haven't cleaned up their cached storage of videos and photos, the alternative is factory reset.
I tried the DJI Assistant 2, 5 times and it still failed at 99%! I tried a factory reset and it still failed both on WiFi and the assistant! I'm so frustrated right now and don't know what else to do!

This is fantastic news, the smart controller is simply one of the best devices I've bought in decades. I wish it was compatible with the Mini. I can't imagine the hassle of trying to use my phone to deploy the drone, especially in some of the remote places I've flown such as jungles in South Asia.

It’s from a company called GPC go professional cases. It’s basically a single Lanyard point. I’m not sure if it’s available on Amazon but if you go to the GPC website you can purchase it there
I have read some people say the stock controller gets better range, I have not really noticed that myself but I don’t tend to fly miles away. The only real benefit you get from the smart controller is the nice bright screen And you have the extra zoom scroll wheel. But it is an expensive unit

Can’t see the $700 advantage to buy this. Come on, is it really that difficult to mount and plug in your phone and make sure it’s charged? Other than a brighter screen, my sun wrap around for $14 helps. Plus the controller charges your phone while flying. If you have more than one drone than this is convenient but how difficult is it to take along more than one controller? If you’ve already have one then this update is great. But to go out and buy one to fly your Mavic 2? Reminds me of a saying “more money than brains”. Thanks

So, in order to use the DJI Goggles I need to but the DJI Smart Controller right? so I connect the Goggles and the Smart Controller with HDMI Cable. Is it possible to control the Mavic Air 2 Camera movement and tilt (Head Tracking) with the movement of your head using the DJI Goggles? Thank you very much. I tried to download assistant two software for my phantom on my MacBook Pro I tried to open the file I got a warning saying it could’ve been a fiber have malware in it or not and it wont open the file. Is there a workaround for this

I haven’t tested it yet but I don’t think so. After the upgrade if you launch the fly app For the first time it gives you a warning about a pass and whether you want to enable it. So I do believe yes it will work on the smart controller. I think only the drone needs the hardware everything else on the controller for receiving a signal is just software-based
Does anyone know if DJI will ever enable the Crystal Sky monitors for the MA 2? I was under the impression that the Smart controller was based on the CS monitors so if this is true , it might mean that they would also be ported for the Ma 2.
I don’t think it will be possible to two hardware limitations of the Crystal sky. This is unfortunate due to it being a premium device and very expensive

I'm new to having a drone. I bought the Air 2 last weekend. Then - just two days ago I found out about the Smart Controller. I would have rather bought the Air 2/Smart Controller as a package. I don't suppose DJI offers a trade-in value for the Controller.
I don’t think DJI sells a combo package with the Smart Controller as of yet. But if you do buy one definitely those controllers have value if you advertise it home on a marketplace. People are always looking for a spare for a replacement

I always update through the PC, I don't trust wireless connections to be reliable for mission critical things like firmware updates. But damn, that controller costs as much as the drone. Certainly not something I am going to run out and buy, since the Air 2 did ship with a rather nice controller. But I can see why people who already own it wants to use it with that kind of money invested.
Dariusz Dobuszewski The Smart Controller runs an older SOC that’s 32bit. So, DJI made an exception and compiled a 32bit version of the Fly App for the Smart Controller. Doubt they’ll ever release that 32bit version for any other phone or tablet.
I have the smart controller. Updates are a nightmare from hell as you found yourself. The screen is no better than an iPhone & when flying, as you must reach over the screen, it is easy to touch something accidently.
Couple things you can try is to clear space on the internal memory it needs a large amount of space to complete the upgrade. Alternatively you can do a factory restore and then try the update again
@@elizabethoshura6425 I also tried the factory reset and it still will not load the firmware. I have tried via the DJI Assistance and WiFi with non luck at all. I wish I could download the firmware file and try loading it via microSD card. Anyway, it looks like a trip to the DJI service centre.
SOLUTION: Go to your internal storage on the S-C and delete the downloaded update (should show time when it was downloaded), then use the Assistant 2 to download and update - that's it!
Hi. It does annoy me when things don't work and no explanation of what to do is given. Poor customer experience. If the DJI servers were overloaded then they should say so and recommend trying later. 'Network error' could mean almost anything. Where is it? My network? ISP? Service provider? Let's at least eliminate some of those and save a lot of frustration and heartache. I would not have known to try by the Smart Controller and it would have helped if you had shown how you managed it yourself. BobUK.
The controller itself is priced the same as your mavic air 2 😂 expensive ive doubt to buy one i think im happy and contented with my original ocusync controller still fly
Another reason to buy smart controller (or stay away from DJI altogether) is the fact that tabletsDJI Fly app doesn't work with MOST Android phones or tablets!

Unfortunately no, and that’s because to get the feed you’re just using an HDMI cable which is just a video feed
our air 2 ipad is light we use the hoodman - and its way more resolution

But damn, that controller costs as much as the drone. Certainly not something I am going to run out and buy, since the Air 2 did ship with a rather nice controller. But I can see why people who already own it wants to use it with that kind of money invested.
Interesting DJI released a 32bit Fly App after saying they wouldn’t when the Mavic Mini came out and a lot of ppl couldn’t fly. 🤔

Dariusz Dobuszewski The Smart Controller runs an older SOC that’s 32bit. So, DJI made an exception and compiled a 32bit version of the Fly App for the Smart Controller. Doubt they’ll ever release that 32bit version for any other phone or tablet.

I have the smart controller. Updates are a nightmare from hell as you found yourself. The screen is no better than an iPhone & when flying, as you must reach over the screen, it is easy to touch something accidently.
i have tried updating this 20 times, both via WiFi and the Assistant - no go.
Couple things you can try is to clear space on the internal memory it needs a large amount of space to complete the upgrade. Alternatively you can do a factory restore and then try the update again
Same here! I even did a system reset and still failing. I PO'D right now to say the least!
@@elizabethoshura6425 I also tried the factory reset and it still will not load the firmware. I have tried via the DJI Assistance and WiFi with non luck at all. I wish I could download the firmware file and try loading it via microSD card. Anyway, it looks like a trip to the DJI service centre.
After several resets and deleting the Mavic Go Fly app, I finally got it to work! I kept getting low memory error which is why I deleted Go Fly.
Tried updating via smart controller and DJI assistant several times and can only get to 99% and then fails

SOLUTION: Go to your internal storage on the S-C and delete the downloaded update (should show time when it was downloaded), then use the Assistant 2 to download and update - that's it!
Hi. It does annoy me when things don't work and no explanation of what to do is given. Poor customer experience. If the DJI servers were overloaded then they should say so and recommend trying later. 'Network error' could mean almost anything. Where is it? My network? ISP? Service provider? Let's at least eliminate some of those and save a lot of frustration and heartache. I would not have known to try by the Smart Controller and it would have helped if you had shown how you managed it yourself. BobUK.

Another reason to buy smart controller (or stay away from DJI altogether) is the fact that tabletsDJI Fly app doesn't work with MOST Android phones or tablets!
