Thrift Flip or Refashion? This weekend I tried my hand at making a dress from a few old shirts!

- Thanks for joining me for a bit of a longer video than normal for me! I decided to have a go at a thrift flip/refashion of sorts as I take some of my husbands old shirts that were going to be thrown away and create a tiered summer dress with pockets and a collar!
Inspiration was drawn from the following after I went down a big rabbit hole of watching refashion and thrift flip videos

The rotary cutter is a no brand version so you are better off just searching for a decent rotary cutter
I hope you feel inspired to go and create something from perhaps some old shirts (but make sure they don’t want them anymore first!)

@@brigitteusher5277 thank you, it does make the pockets really neat! I did kick myself that I didn’t finish the edges of the pockets though as folded over the raw edges are showing on the inside of the pocket 😅 live and learn ☺️

Hi Shelley. I have attended a couple of virtual sewing socials organised by sequin girlie creates. I have really enjoyed them. You can chat as much as you like or just sit and listen. Some are really well attended and sometimes there are just a handful of sewists depending on the timings. I’m retired so have attended a couple of weekday daytime events.
Everyone is really friendly and it’s lovely to have some company in my sewing room 😊

I blame Wimbledon too for the weather, it usually rains. I had a RaRa skirt when I was younger. I loved them mine was blue, yellow and pink.
@@susanjenningsjones I do have fond memories of my dress so that might be why I accidentally recreated it 😂 I’m looking forward to seeing the sun finally after Wimbledon is done!
Great video as always you choose really interesting things to do. Tip on the unpicking if they're upper end shirts which they look like on the armholes and sides it'll be a chain stitch which literally undoes in seconds. Usually Conran,liberty, Harvey hudson,jaeger,simpsons etc xx

@@lovesredsews thank you, it is fun sometimes to just have a go and not follow a pattern! I noticed Stephanie Canada has also put out a shirt refashion this week so you might want to check hers out too for inspiration! I’m ridiculously nervous (I don’t know why haha) about attending a virtual session but it’s good to know there will be faces I recognise 😊
@@TheWillowtreeGreen if it’s the Virtual Sewing Room you’re attending then they are super friendly. You can choose to participate or not, show your face on camera or not, just listen in. It’s up to you ☺️
i love it, im after doing a summer dress out of old shirts , but im a learner so it might end up in bin. i love your style of clothes. lol i play Warcraft too, at 65 its my go to anyways really enjoy your videos tfs hugsx

Love the dress. What if you added ties at the side seam that could be tied in the back which would make it fit a little bit closer?

I admire your dedication to reducing clothing waste. I just don't like the way the dress looks on you. Everything about it is frumpy and makes you look much wider than you really are. If you repurpose clothing, try going instead for vertical lines, V-necks, and nipped-in waist. It would look much better.
