Hi! I’m Shelley and thanks for taking a look at my little channel. I am a bit obsessed with sewing since it became my primary hobby in Feb 2023 but I am also a bit of a hobby collector so I make junk journals, paint water colour and acrylic and have recently started crochet! I hope you enjoy watching me talk about things I’ve made and done. I usually post on a Monday (as it’s my day off) so I try to be consistent, you may also get the odd one in between however if I’m super excited about something!
I’ve always taken inspiration from the other wonderful sewing and junk journal TH-camrs so wanted to also see if I can inspire or help someone with what I do and make as well!

Thrift Flip or Refashion? This weekend I tried my hand at making a dress from a few old shirts!
Thanks for joining me for a bit of a longer video than normal for me! I decided to have a go at a thrift flip/refashion of sorts as I take some of my husbands old shirts that were going to be thrown away and create a tiered summer dress with pockets and a collar!
Inspiration was drawn from the following after I went down a big rabbit hole of watching refashion and thrift flip videos

I hope you feel inspired to go and create something from perhaps some old shirts (but make sure they don’t want them anymore first!)

Hi there, thanks for watching my video today. I decided to film snippets of what I did over this weekend as I had a lot of time to sew and have had a go at putting it all together. I hope you find it interesting, seeing how I spent my weekend and how I go about a project (or two). I will admit that very little in the way of housework was done this weekend! Making the Boxy Top from Peppermint Magazine using a remnant and all the versions I have made

Hi Everyone and thanks for joining me today as I talk about my love of the *free Peppermint Magazine Boxy Top and colour blocking. i love it, im after doing a summer dress out of old shirts , but im a learner so it might end up in bin. i love your style of clothes. lol i play Warcraft too, at 65 its my go to anyways really enjoy your videos tfs hugsx
@@Mumakinder thank you ☺️ at least with old shirts it doesn’t matter if you make a mistake so you can give it a go and not worry 😃 and it’s nice to find another Warcraft player!
Thank you. I love your red/green dress. I have the pattern and cant wait to play.
@@pennyyeeles3977 thanks for watching! it’s great for using up scraps 😊
Very nice, talented sewer! ❤
@@ShirleyJarrett thank you ☺️
I admire your dedication to reducing clothing waste. I just don't like the way the dress looks on you. Everything about it is frumpy and makes you look much wider than you really are. If you repurpose clothing, try going instead for vertical lines, V-necks, and nipped-in waist. It would look much better.
@@bethmoore-love4223 thank you I appreciate the advice and I do believe my husband would agree! 😊
You’ve done a great job on the shirts refashion, it’s giving me ideas for my busy bee sewing challenge! I often join a virtual sewing session so if it’s the same one then I may see you there x
@@lovesredsews thank you, it is fun sometimes to just have a go and not follow a pattern! I noticed Stephanie Canada has also put out a shirt refashion this week so you might want to check hers out too for inspiration! I’m ridiculously nervous (I don’t know why haha) about attending a virtual session but it’s good to know there will be faces I recognise 😊
@@TheWillowtreeGreen if it’s the Virtual Sewing Room you’re attending then they are super friendly. You can choose to participate or not, show your face on camera or not, just listen in. It’s up to you ☺️

Hi Shelley. I have attended a couple of virtual sewing socials organised by sequin girlie creates. I have really enjoyed them. You can chat as much as you like or just sit and listen. Some are really well attended and sometimes there are just a handful of sewists depending on the timings. I’m retired so have attended a couple of weekday daytime events. Everyone is really friendly and it’s lovely to have some company in my sewing room 😊 I’m sure you’ll enjoy the experience ❤ Much more fun than proper office work zoom meetings 😂
@@alisonkemp1671 thank you that is really nice to know ❤️ I’ve given my family a heads up I need the living room to myself during the timings 😂
Love the dress. What if you added ties at the side seam that could be tied in the back which would make it fit a little bit closer?
@@user-judyb-999 that is a very good idea! I will look at that for sure thanks!
Cute!! Keep up the good work!
I think it's great what you have done with the shirts, brilliant idea with the pockets.
@@brigitteusher5277 thank you, it does make the pockets really neat! I did kick myself that I didn’t finish the edges of the pockets though as folded over the raw edges are showing on the inside of the pocket 😅 live and learn ☺️
I blame Wimbledon too for the weather, it usually rains. I had a RaRa skirt when I was younger. I loved them mine was blue, yellow and pink.
@@susanjenningsjones I do have fond memories of my dress so that might be why I accidentally recreated it 😂 I’m looking forward to seeing the sun finally after Wimbledon is done!
Very nice!
Thank you for sharing. I love that style shirt also. I never even thought about color blocking, but once you showed your makes, it is ideal really. Great job with all the tops and dresses, they all look great. I totally agree about the red fabric with the flower pattern. It appears to be an exact match. Just not sure if I could pull off the bright red, as it always seems to make me look a lot larger than I am, and I certainly don't need assistance. Thanks again, just found your channel today, will definitely follow you along as you go. Great to meet you. U.S.

It is amazing what can be done with a small space which accommodates work, sewing, bookmaking, crochet, toy making etc. absolutely incredible. Thank you for sharing- it is encouraging for us all with small spaces. I am lucky to have a reasonably sized bedroom. Love, love the dogs. Happy Sewing 😊. Lynne
Thank you ☺️ I do squeeze as much use out of it as possible 😄
Real sunshine vibes……..a new holiday dress, great vlog btw xxxxxx
@@happydogshandmade4680 thank you! ☺️
I love how your projects turned out. You should adjust the neckline. The neckline is too wide for you. The length should be shortened by half an inch and it will stay on your shoulders and still go over your head.
@@bombcherryjuice2000 I agree it could do with an adjustment at the neck, next time I make it I will take your advice and give that a go! Thank you ☺️
Oh i hadnt looked at all the images of others making this! I dont think they increased armhole opening as the sizes got bigger on the pattern! I can see the larger sizes are not sitting correctly. It has an invisible dropped shoulder because its T shape. So larger sizes as most in that category, I am now, also have larger busts and some back or under arm girth. You cant just increase pattern all around outside. Id try redrawing under arm seam at least an inch! You can always pin fit or baste and make smaller! The no dart looks have an invisibie dart! Its how it falls. Same as A line dresses with no bust darts, its the room to flow into soft gathers that is the darts. You cant compare to a no bust size 8..which I was in my 20s! Now im 1X and had two 10 lb kids and I'm 69! Massive learning on my life long sewing to accommodate the mum tum and a bust!
@@retroredo9850 absolutely, our bodies change a lot and we have to learn how to adjust the patterns to fit us, thank you for the advice I will certainly think of this next time I make it! ☺️
I like this pattern! I was taught because im really old to measure all my patterns in between seam lines and compare to my own adding 2 inches ease!
@@retroredo9850 that’s a good tip! Thank you ☺️
The fibre mood skirt looks lovely and the green stripe is fab. You did make me laugh with the circus tent but I actually think it looks really wearable!
@@alwaysinthecraftroom thanks! I still haven’t made the final version, don’t know why I’m procrastinating although it could be the idea of doing a zip 😅 I do like the stripy red skirt but I rushed hemming the bottom so need to fix that first 😁
Often the bust and hip measurements are often printed on the tissue pattern pieces rather than the back of the envelope. Hope this helps in future.

It’s definitely fruit salad!
😁 haha I couldn’t unsee the bananas after!
Oooo … that pattern Co. is new to me so I’ll enjoy checking them out … thanks
The top looks lovely the instruction are a bit lacking, I might cover it in more detail in my next video as I’m making another and it’s not just me not reading something properly (which I obviously do 😂) I do think it’s worth trying to figure it out for this though!
Very innovative!
Thank you 😄
Comment no.2 … my machine sometimes gets picky with thread other than Gutterman so l feel I’ve won the battle by using it in the bobbin only … just to use the thread … hate throwing stuff away
I’m the same it’s such a waste and it makes no sense to me at all as they look identical!
I think the bright colours look fabulous on you! As an aside, I’ve dyed fabric in the past and even though I followed the instructions to the letter it did still turn out patchy … it was a solid so maybe slight patches won’t show on your ‘patchy’ sort of fabric print … also polyester thread won’t dye well … good luck!
Thank you, I did reconsider dying it for this reason actually, I wonder if I might like it as a skirt more so may take off the bodice and leave the bright fabric as a skirt, watch this space! 😂
It’s so funny that the photos I inserted seem to have moved from where I put them but the words stayed right 😂 so apologies for any confusion

With you on that! sticking together pdf patterns is a pain!
I like the top that you made. And the fabric is beautiful ❤
Thank you, the Lily pattern really appealed to me but it does have some issues that said I’m currently making another 😄
Good for you. Did you manage to make a skirt from the rest of the fabric?
@@brigitteusher5277 yes I did! I’ve actually made a dress, I created a tank top from an old tshirt and attached the remaining fabric to that and I tried the lily top over the tank dress with a belt and it still works as a coord set but now I also have another dress! I was thinking I’m more likely to wear a dress than a skirt😁
