      slow this down to .25
The biomechanical term for up or down at the start is "projection angle".
"The projection angle, i.e. the angle between the initial trajectory and the horizontal, determines the shape of the parabola described in flight by the object or body.

This explains why my kicks seems higher when just warming up and in matches I was losing height from tossing the ball into the court without staying vertical. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

Some days I hit a good kick serve, other days not so good. Looking back, I was doing many things right. I was throwing the ball in front of my body, BUT I was not under it enough. I often hit a serve with topspin but not a high bouncer. Now I can hit a hard high bouncer most of the time if I get under the ball. Nikola cleared up my problem.
    Great job!!!

I lost my kick serve over the years, this is a useful refresher. I remember I used to have the mentality of forcing myself under the ball no matter how far into the court I tossed the ball, and resulted in nice heavy kicks. I haven't thought that way in years, it could be why my kick hasn't been very good as of late. great insight like always.

Edberg also used an extreme grip on his serve, that is, not continental but almost an Eastern backhand grip. I use it too often on my second serve but you can even hit heavey flat serves with it if you just pronate enough. That grip makes it a lot easier to get over the ball to hit high kicking slice serves, just like Stefan did.

    Hi Nick,
Great videos! Thank you so much for the tips! I just have a question. When you toss in front with the kicker and then get under the ball, it feels like all of my body weight is on my left (non dominant) foot. That seems a bit unatural. Usually, I also load on the back foot too. Is there something going on with my normal serve, or is it just my kick serve?

I never could see the mistake i made until i record myself serving. I suggest everyone who has kickserve problems to record themselves in different perspective to analyse their body and racquet motion. Practice on the toss a lot too to get a consistent toss everytime. I find it tossing is half the process to finding your right serve but not many people talk about it.

  • @uzairii
    @uzairii 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Nick,
My serve looks similar to yours. I saw your serve in slow mo in this video.
My serve is fluid and has continuous motion with no pause in trophy position. I think a lot of pros have got a continuous flow as well.
My serve is quite big and is div 1 level where I hit quite a lot of aces easily. Kick serve is as good as first with forward momentum and not easy to return either.
My question is that my legs start loading while my racquet is still low and then of course there is no pause or a typical trophy position too which we see normally in Federer and a lot of other pros. And coaches told me to reach the trophy position as well.
But i guess i picked this up over time naturally.
Is it all good if the racquet is still down while you start loading your legs or should I delay it and start bending when racquet is little higher than my waist level?
I hope you see my comment. By the way great work and love your videos and they make lot more sense than anything i have seen on TH-cam.
    Cheers.

The kid in the red shirt at the start of the video hit a true kicker in that when it landed it kicked away from the court and high to the back hand. This fellow hit what looked like heavily top spun serve that even though they bounced high, they didn't break away from the receiver. Another thing is why do they all demo the kick serve from the Ad court? Lets see the effect of the kick serve from the deuce court.
