I would just like to say that I wholeheartedly agree with those that say the Vance and Hines exhausts for the T120 aren't worth the asking price. Fortunately I didn't pay the asking price as I found a genuine bargain on Ebay. On the other hand, the Arrow cans that were fitted on the Speed Triple I recently rode are worth every penny. The sound that was emitted from those cans was sublime.
Hi Andy, thank you very much for an excellent review of all the stuff you've done to your bike. Peak District eh? we were there in August - a whole gang of us from the Triumph Forum - and had a great time. Re the exhausts: for £600 I would have expected better, lighter jobbies that boosted performance and sound much more. But if you're happy with your bike that's all that matters. Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to hear them though.
I also have a few classic cars and I like to keep everything as it left the factory so its the same with my 120. Have to say I prefer the sound of the original exhausts. The replacements make the sound more muffled but the difference is very marginal. But thanks for showing us the difference.
Had my T120 black a couple of days, just getting to know it. I have the vance & hines US version on, they are straight through pretty much like all sports silencers i have seen. The standard ones are similar inside but have a smaller diameter hole all the way through with a sort of chamber inside roughly where the hanger is. Not a great difference really. Just thought i would add this to anyone interested. Yes i am happy with the V&H and i have them lined up perfectly now. Put some hard rubber penny washers on the RHS hanger to dress the pipe in a bit. Its cock on now. Lovely bike. Very happy with it and worth the long wait.
I just got my t120 black a few days ago and it came with the Vance & Hines already installed on it and a Decat. I'm just wondering how good it would have sound with the stock pipes and the Decat done.
Thank you for posting these videos. I'm shopping for a red/silver T120 and I appreciate your thoughts on the accessories. The four bar tank badges look great on a two tone tank. I'm not a tank bag fan but I actually like the looks of the olive one you have fitted. You provided an invaluable service with those exhaust sound clips. The V&H sounds a tad raspier than the stock pipes. Not bad but I don't mind the Jetson-esque stock sound. Thanks again, Andy.
The Vance and Hines only sounded a little more rorty, but seemed to be less of that almost tinny vibration sound in the mid range of the originals.I have to agree with your comment on rucksacks. I seem to remember reading an article about rucksacks causing more serious injuries even death when the rider has been involved in a crash. Also i don't think the Bonny would look right wearing a topbox anyway. Ride safe.
Enjoyed the video… thanks for posting…. I’ll stay with the stock pipes on my 2022 T120…. Question about the tank bag… just found one of those on ebay(apparently Triumph discontinued them)…. Any issue with scuffing the paint on the tank?
Hi Graham, The underside of the bag is a soft almost a short fleecy material which doesn’t cause any problems as long as you check it’s clean before fitting. The harness at the front is ok, but I didn’t like the looks of the rear straps. So I got some black felt and made some felt pads that I attached to the ends of the straps with double sided tape. These lay between the tank and the plastic buckles to prevent any likelihood of scuffing. So far no problems! Regards Andy
Great video, thanks Andy. Not a huge difference between the exhausts is there.. Luckily, the stock exhaust sounds excellent so not much need for improvement. You could always take the baffle out of the V&H if you want it louder. I have to get the V&H exhaust because I damaged my OEM pipes. I tried to buff out some small scratches with 0000 steel wool and Autosol metal polish and made it a lot worse!
Another question for you if you don't mind.. Did you have to remove the rear mudguard in order to get at the bolt the holds the grab rail behind the suspension? Triumph seem to have designed the assembly for this bike in a rather over complicated way. update * I've found some instructions for adding/removing the grab rail. As much as I admire the looks of the bike without the rail I don't think I'll bother going through all that messing around to remove the grab rail. Triumph certainly don't make it easy... I have removed the top part of the grab rail which is very easy and m improves the rather cumbersome look of the grab rail.
Have you de-cated your bike? With an x-pipe? It doesn't sound like it, but if not then you should. It will bring out the best in the V&H exhaust and free up the engine. Lovely bike in best colour 👍🏻
Hi well I eventually removed my grab rail and fitted the LED indicators. The indicators are real quality items. I'll be replacing the rocker cover shortly for a black one as I don't think a chrome rocker cover looks right. So far I'm really pleased how my cinder red Bonnie now looks.
Hi, I have taken the mudguards off the bike and they are currently with 8Ball motorcycle paint shop to have a cranberry stripe with gold lining applied. With any luck I'll have them back before Christmas.
Hard to hear any difference if you want my honest opinion, might sound better in real life though. She is certainly a beautiful looking bike, the seat and extra covers look good and that tank bag sort of suits it. Stay safe out there, Paul.
V&H are deeper sounding. A little bit richer in tone. But opinions are just that. Like the bike either way. I myself likely wouldn't touch the stock exhaust.
Hi Adam, They do sound a bit louder when your on the bike and I would say they've sharpened up the throttle response a little bit as well. Regards Andy
gorgeous looking bike! ive just got the jet black and chrome version. I love the tank badges you have! ive had a look but I dont think you can buy them without the prestige kit. have you you had any trouble with the clocks steaming up?
Hi Stuart, The tank badges are part number A9790059, I don't know if they are available yet, but I have seen them on some dealers web sites. The bad news is, they cost £90.00. Thankfully, I haven't had any problems with the clocks steaming up, but it's early days yet and I haven't ridden in any damp conditions so who knows! Regards Andy
+Peak Biker thanks for that ill look out for them and save my pennies up! were they difficult to fit/ remove the old ones? triumph are replacing the clocks under warranty tomorrow. mainly a problem on a warm day when the clocks are in direct sunlight. any problems with the brake squealing phenomenon?
it comes and goes. I put 1500 miles on mine but it still does it. usually gentle pressure in stop start traffic is the worst. good news is triumph are working on a fix!
Hi Stuart, The tank badges weren't difficult to fit. The trickiest bit is removing the original badges. If you fit the 4 bar badges be sure about it because once they're on, they're on for good. It would be really difficult to remove the 4 bar badges. You can look at the instructions if you type in the part code on www.triumphinstructions.com. Regards Andy
I didn't really notice any difference in weight when I was handling them. I doubt there is much difference because they're not made out of a lighter material. Triumph's info claims they are made of chromed stainless steel. Regards Andy
Lovely bike, with some nice add-ons. Tank bag is especially nice - I've seen some people fit a rack for a top box which destroys the look. The V&Hs exhaust sounds almost same as stock on video. Maybe I need person you can hear more of a difference?
Hi, The V&H's are the EU version and they do sound slightly deeper toned. The main difference is they pop and fart a bit more on the overrun. A guy in Australia has contacted me, he has the US version fitted and he says even with the decibel restrictors removed, the audible difference is minimal. Regards Andy
Nice vids and great explanations, I have had my T120 Graphite since may and really love it, I was sold after test ride too! I also said goodbye to another triumph triple the Trophy SE and Im not even missing the radio! i bought a Givi A660 fairing which is on at the moment but I think it might get taken off and sold as it in my opinion makes windblast higher and noisier im 6ft 1. I agree with another comment that a fender extender is great and looks ok on the bike I put these on all my bikes. I like the look of the remus exhausts for this bike again £600 quid or more but they sweep upwards helping when chain needs adjusting. Id certainly like to see a vid when you do the chain adjustment if needed....chains are good, ive done 1300 miles and all is well. regards Chris

Hi, I just purchased a pair of the led indicators that you have on your bike. Instructions are sketchy at best and have you referring to the service manual which doesn't actually address the issue. Any advice or tips ? Thanks,
Hi John, I understand what you are saying, there are constant references to the owners manual but it doesn't tell you anything. The front indicators are the trickiest. First off, I opened up the headlamp, when you have removed the 2 bolts holding in the lamp, ease the lamp out at the bottom and gently pull it downwards to unclip it at the top. The whole lot should come out and hang on the wiring, it's a good idea to put a soft cloth or old towel on the mudguard to prevent damage. Once the lamp was out, I then removed the bolts holding the headlamp shell to get access to the studs holding the indicator stalks. If you remove them one at a time, you can twist the headlamp brackets to get an allan key in, replace the indicator and refit the bracket. Repeat on the other side and this way you don't disturb the beam setting. The wiring inside the shell is a jumble, I gently tugged at one of the old indicator wires to identify it and disconnected the bullet connectors (don't attempt to do both indicators together, do one at a time). I then threaded the new harness into the shell and reconnected the wires. The wires are different lengths so its easy to distinguish them by touch rather than having to try to see them. It's just a case of clipping the headlamp back in and refitting the retaining bolts. The rear ones are easy, I unplugged the whole tail light assembly and removed it from the bike (you might want to disconnect the battery for safety). You can then fit the new indicators and refit the unit. It's just a case of following the instructions to set up the bike to use LED indicators and hopefully your done. Good Luck Andy
Hi regarding the indicators - do you have to open up the headlight in order to plug in the wiring for the new indicators? I am looking at getting these myself. :)
Hi, Yes, there are 2 screws, one either side at the bottom of the shell. The lens assembly eases out at the bottom, you need to try and gently pull the assembly downwards to dislocate the clip in the top of the shell. Once removed it hangs ok on the harness and a soft cloth on the mudguard. Inside the shell is a plastic shield that all of the terminal blocks are attached to. I removed the headlamp securing bolts to get access to the bolts holding the indicators. When the indicator is free, gently pull the wires and feel inside the shell to locate the connectors. The two wires are different lengths and colours so it's difficult to get them connected wrong. Make sure you do one indicator at a time don't go unplugging both indicators at once, you have to work by touch rather than sight. Once you have all the indicators fitted you have to alter the settings for the indicators or else they flash too fast. There are instructions for the process on www.triumphinstructions.com You need to get the part numbers for the indicators off Triumphs website and search on the above site for the instructions. Regards Andy
Hi again, yet another question for you - I see there are different stem lengths for the indicators. Which stem length did you choose for your bike? it's difficult to get an idea without actually looking at the various stem lengths. Many thanks
Hi, It's not as difficult as it sounds, just take your time and tackle it methodically. I had both sets fitted in around an hour or so. LED indicators have a much lower resistance than filament lamps so normally you need to fit additional resistors, Triumph have thought of this and effectively you reprogram the system to put the additional resistance in the circuit, As to stem lengths, the best ones to go for are short stems on the back and medium stems on the front. This is the combination that Triumph include in there custom packs. Regards Andy
Why the heck are they £600... are they lined with Gold or some other precious metal? Seems to me any aftermarket product for 'any' bike is way over priced. Basically they are just taking the piss and we fall for it every time.
Beautiful machine . I'd be wary of that tank - top bag tho' . It can ruin the paintwork . The old Meriden Triumphs used to have a small parcel rack fitted onto the tank top . Pity they don't do it now .
Hi, The tank bag isn't too bad, It is designed specifically for the T120 and is molded to the shape of the tank. So long as you make sure the underside is clean it shouldn't do any damage, but you do need to be careful with the straps and buckles.
Hi, Your right. The rear one is metal and the front one is plastic. It's really difficult to tell what the front one is made of unless you take it off. I removed it recently to fit a fender extender and discovered I was wrong and that it is plastic. I was also shocked to discover that the chromed mudguard stay is also plastic. The only steel part is the support bracket that bolts between the forks.
On the basis that: they look the same; they sound the same; they weigh the same and they produce only marginal performance improvement, I'm sorry but I think they would be a waste of £600 on an already expensive bike. Interesting that the "comfort seat" that they tried to sell me isn't any more comfortable either. Triumph taking us all for fools I think.
I fully agree about the exhaust, the rest of bits and shiny pieces, Triumph is acting like every other manufacturer out there. Still a wonderful machine that help revive the brand.
Hi, Basically, the Vance and Hines are a waste of money. There is so little difference between the stock silencers and the V&H silencers. I didn't keep them long and fitted these instead. th-cam.com/video/68bUG1OzcyA/w-d-xo.html Regards Andy
Don't worry, apparently the US Vance and Hines silencers are less restricted than the EU ones. I may be wrong but I think the baffles are removable from the US market silencers. All I know is that another guy commented saying I had bought the wrong silencers, I should have gone for the US market ones. There's another alternative now, the UK Triumph specialist, Norman Hyde is marketing there own after market silencers called Toga's which are supposed to be very good. Regards Andy
Hi, I know, they were a waste of money and hopefully anyone watching the video will be put off buying them. I soon got rid of them and fitted these instead, th-cam.com/video/68bUG1OzcyA/w-d-xo.html Regards Andy

Thanks for the info. It seems a lot of faffing about for something that should be reasonably accessible and be 'plug in' and play.
Hi again, yet another question for you - I see there are different stem lengths for the indicators. Which stem length did you choose for your bike? it's difficult to get an idea without actually looking at the various stem lengths. Many thanks
Hi,
It's not as difficult as it sounds, just take your time and tackle it methodically.
I had both sets fitted in around an hour or so.
LED indicators have a much lower resistance than filament lamps so normally you need to fit additional resistors, Triumph have thought of this and effectively you reprogram the system to put the additional resistance in the circuit,
As to stem lengths, the best ones to go for are short stems on the back and medium stems on the front. This is the combination that Triumph include in there custom packs.

Andy
Peak Biker Right I shall go by your guidance and get the stem lengths you recommend. Thanks for your help.
Do you notice any excessive heat from the engine during normal use?
Hi,
Can't say that I do, the down pipes certainly get hot though.
Why the heck are they £600... are they lined with Gold or some other precious metal? Seems to me any aftermarket product for 'any' bike is way over priced. Basically they are just taking the piss and we fall for it every time.
I prefer the original silencers. A waste of £600 I think.
it,s overpriced to start more money than brain,s steve my triton back in the 60,s blow that out of the water and smaller engine all show no go lol
the exhausts sound much better than the standard ones!
I do not agree, the difference is négligeable at best

Hi,
I didn't keep them for long.
I fitted these instead; th-cam.com/video/68bUG1OzcyA/w-d-xo.html
Are those fenders are metal or plastic?
Hi,
The fenders are metal.
Why do you ask?
Triumph normally keep very minimal plastics / fibers...so just wanna know what they have done for this model. IMO metal fenders looks good
As far as I can see on my T120, the rear fender is metal and the front mudguard is plastic.
Hi,
Your right.
Best bike sir
Thank you for the scrupulous review!
if you won't to keep the muck of the front fit a front mud guard extender/ or old money. a mud flap
Sounds like a big V twin. Oh wait, it pretty much is a V twin with the 270 crank. It sounds good, but the 360 crank just sound better lMO.
difficult to campare when there's so much time between edits
Rather make A-B shortcuts of the same vieuw
Hi,
Basically, the Vance and Hines are a waste of money. There is so little difference between the stock silencers and the V&H silencers.
I didn't keep them long and fitted these instead.

I think I may have just wasted $1000.00 on ordering the pipes on my new T120 I'm picking up in 2 days..

Thanks for the info Andy. I am in Aus so I believe we get the US version of the pipes..
Cheers Perry..
Picked up the bike with US pipes and DB killers removed, not too loud but nice deep tone. Nowhere close to Harley volumes..
Regards, Perry
Have fun and ride safe.

I don't hear much of a difference to be honest.
Hi,
I know, they were a waste of money and hopefully anyone watching the video will be put off buying them.
I soon got rid of them and fitted these instead, th-cam.com/video/68bUG1OzcyA/w-d-xo.html
