Bucky made me interested in skateboarding as a kid.
Went to the Vans triple crown in Cleveland in 1999 and saw him win 2nd in vert. After the contest we saw Bucky walking behind the ramp and we walked over and asked for autographs. He was super kind and excited to sign our boards, he asked my older brother to hold his 2nd place trophy that he just won while he was signing our stuff.
I'll never forget it.

Hawk's vert is made after the Hägernäs vert! That we skated at Eurocana Summer Camp in Stockholm in the 80's. McGill did his first McTwist on it and Hawk did his first 720 on it!! And today that vert is in Örebro, Sweden with new sheets of course!! 😀

Such a great episode! Bucky is a true legend.... Got to meet him one time when he got his 1st Van's shoe.. He was going around to venders to do meet and greets.. I was a manager at GI Joes at the time and we all got free pairs.. it was sick!! Super nice dude! Met him again years later at rally.. I was a team manager for a Subaru USA team and they would always put us next tot he "big boys"...... still a chill dude years later!
One of my first boards was a Birdhouse Bucky Lasek, a rooster reflection in a stick shift ball and it's still one of the coolest boards I've had!
Birdhouse had amazing graphics! I had the Heath Kirchart voodoo doll board. so sick
Bro Bucky was my childhood all those sick ass birdhouse decks with the bird homie on em so nostalgic always begged for one of those to the THPS games and videos in his backyard this dudes graphics and skating made me fall in love with skateboarding respect Bucky!! 🤝

love bucky lasek, just got tony hawks pro skater 1+2 and brought back such old memories. Bucky was always my favorite in all the games and the real life board I had of his with the chicken racing go-karts and flipping off the guy who crashed behind was my favorite board of all time, I actually really miss it right now. peace and love brothers
Met him and Chet and Steve Saiz when they came up to Canada to do a demo summer 1990 and Bucky was a class act. Shot tons of footy; heard that Bucky kept crossing the street by the shop to trip out over cars stopping for a pedestrian. Skated behind him on route from shop to street demo course, and let me tell you, his street game was every bit as good as his ramp game. Hung out with him, Chet and the local team gods until 3am, listened to his observations about differences between canadian and american pronunciation and didn't even care about getting grounded. One of the greatest weekends of my life. I should put that stuff up on my channel, hope the tapes are still somewhat readable

Bucky's level of longevity is beyond incredible.
Bucky has a great TH-cam Video at a Powell & Peralta spot with Stacey Peralta showing the process involved with putting the graphics on the boards. Definitely thought it was top notch quality. I really got a understanding for board graphics after watching that video.
Its crazy, 20 years later and I still get this hyped on Bucky.

man, before I got into street skating, i was BIG INTO transitions as a lil kid and bucky was my fav skater. FUN FACT- Bucky was the dude who was skating the vert making it look like eric on the movie "GRIND"

Giant Skatepark Tour 2001 at Woodward was the first time I ever lost my voice at an event. Awesome time. I still have the poster with all the autographs now hanging in my garage.

I remember back in the 80s I seen the Powell and Peralta team do a demo with a portable steel half pipe at Henry's Bike Shop in Wilmington, Delaware. I was so mad because I lost my rector knee pads with Tony Hawk's sig.

@Daniel Hollingsworth I meant as a proportion of skaters his age. There are a lot more who have retired completely or can’t do a fraction of what they used to be able to. Vert skaters seem to be the exception - must be a lot less wear and tear on the joints than street skating.

never seen a skater before perform at such a high level at such an advanced age. even more impressive than tony hawk in my book. only bummer is that his memory is shot - you can tell that his head got knocked around maybe a few too many times.
