No disrespect to the veterans, but there wasn't even a remote possibility that Japan or anyone else would be able to invade the US, Just take it for what it was. An enemy that needed to be dealt with, but never had a chance of invading your country.

@@andins761 I know. Just the way he framed it made it overly dramatic. The freedom of US citizens were never in any real danger. Even if they tried it wouldn't have gone far. Maybe I got triggered because my country was actually in that position back in ww2. Soviets tried to invade our country (Finland). The odds were not in our favor with the man power they had.

We also, of course, have air and sea units fighting against terrorist. There will always be air units, ground units, and sea units fighting. My 17 year old brother left to become a Marine 3 years ago. He came to visit for Memorial Day weekend. He is going to be gone for 8 months. I won’t be seeing him for his 21st birthday this October My birthday on Thanksgiving Christmas and New Year. Mi hermano Juan Carlos Guzman

I'm Polish. My grandma was figting in September 1939 in Poland. After beeing defeted, he has been fighting in Polish resistance between 1941-1945. He was shaving himself the same straight razor that army gave him in 1939 when he was drafted with 19. He passed away in 2010 and lifed round 90 year's. I keept this Soolingen straight razor as a suvenire. He was taughtes man I ever know. Never complained and always seeing bright sight of life. As you American's used to say: "greatest generation". Few lines about USMC. If I would born an American, definitely I would joint to USMC as a volunteer. Why? Because it's my favorite military unit. My uncle was a warrant officer in Polish Navy and once he gave me a book called "Storm over Pacific" (in Polish written by Polish historian and ww2 vet Zbigniew Flisowski). It's 2 volums and about 2000 pages. I had readed it in a week. It's a book about Pacific Campaign 1941-1945. I remember absolutely fascinating stories about amphibian assaults all over Pacific: from Guadalcanal until Okinawa. Because of this, I bought few books about this theater: I have memories of Eugen Sladge, biography of Nimitz, book about campaign on Guadalcanal and Okinawa. I'm not an American, but hell I would like to be a Marine. Once a Marine, allways a Marine! Semper Fidelis Devil Dog's!

My grandpa never wore a hat, never advertised his service. He never talked about it. He came home and threw away his uniforms, purple heart, etc. Tried to erase it.

Listening to this brave gentleman brings me back to my childhood (I was born in 1944) when my father would tell me his experience in the same manner as this man. My father was also a Chief Petty Officer in the navy attached to the marines and was in the same or similar group of warriors. He also invaded Okinawa (and fought at Iwo Jima and Guadalcanal) as a medic on those beaches. Thank you Sir and thank you, Dad.

To them it was hell on earth
Every time I watch these films they bring a tear to my eye. Like many, my family too has a history from the World Wars. Watching these films brings back the memories of when I was a child hearing stories from my Grandfather. My Mom's Dad passed when I was very young. He was a WWI vet and was awarded 2 purple hearts. He was left for dead in France by the Germans and later recovered by the British. My Dad's Dad, WWII Vet Chief Gunners Mate, was on ships just like in this film. Hearing the stories he would tell me. He also was in the Korean War. He retired after almost 30 yrs in the Military, 2 years Army, 28 yrs Navy. There is even a story to how that happened. Both my Grandfathers have passed. I think of all they had to go through, all they had to see. Then today you look at the USA as a whole. How divided we are. It saddens me so much. People in my neighborhood don't even fly the Flag on National Days of Remembrance. Every Day I have my flag out and I have someone walk by at least a couple times a week and ask me why. I just look at the flag, and I look at them, and I say, So many people died so I could be here right now. That you walking enjoying your day could be here. People forget so easily. I choose not to. The conversation usually goes on a bit longer and they walk away. Please folks, don't forget your history. We are not a perfect country by no means, but we as a nation can do great things. "All Gave Some.....Some Gave All". GOD Bless You All 🙏 and Thank You for these Films. Thank You.
My four-father was a Marine in Belleau Wood, my great-grandfather served with the 101st as an E-3, my great-uncle is currently stationed at Fort Hood, and I have several relatives that served in various branches. After graduating, I plan on joining the Coast Guard.

Isn’t stupid how people want to disrespect the flag and the anthem? So many people have died for this country we live in and people want to kneel for the flag and anthem, it’s just stupid. I live in the states but I don’t know about you.😂🇺🇸

I’m joining the marine corps after I graduate high school and get a bachelors degree to be a USMC officer and your channel helped inspire me to do so!
Word of advice only going to officer school is the thing to do I wouldn't tell anyone to go in the military at this time and point, I was in high school when we were just about to invade iraq and I was politically of sound and mind and I wanted to join the marines since I was little and I scored really high on the tests and I wanted to be a grunt and go on the ground and lead men but my recruiter was awesome and actually cared about me and told me to do something else and I told him I don't believe in this war and I smoked weed and he said I get it if u want to go through with it call me if not I won't bother u and tell the other recruiters to leave me alone cause I was a high target! And I backed out and I'm glad I didn't have part in that mess

What this man had seen when the front of his craft opened and before it shut, will be in his eye forever . He was one of the ones we will never get back. You can feel his strength yet his heart ache. Luckily we were able to see a man that endured so much for what we have. Hopefully he does don’t see our streets today. He delivered America’s sons to be sacrificed for our Nation. I am a marine and it is not a picture to sleep on. His Family must cherish the memory and DNA of this Man. PRICELESS
This channel... This channel has one of my heroes. They suffered, they cried, but still they got up. These old mans are heroes. They know what's real pain. But they are alive to tell their story. And that ones who died, will live forever on our heart. They fought against nazis and japanese guys. You know why we fall? To learn how to get up. They know that very well. They are heroes, and they will be remembered.

My Pop served in WW2, I know bits n pieces, but my grandfather a Vietnam veteran doesnt talk to me about pop often anymore. He was a driver for one of those half track thingos, like a tank withour a roof. He was an Australian WW2 Veteran, this past Anzac day, I wore his medals and got reminded about him once more. I remember little of him as I was probably 7 at his death, but I remember he made it a tradition to fill two big Jars full of silver coins over a year, he would then give them to my brother and I.. I kind of regret being too young and oblivious to what he had done, otherwise I would have spent more time with him, with the little time we had together, but I was only a kid at the time, who can blame me. Atleast I still talk about him and acknowledge him to this day.
The excitement in his voice is humbling when talking about not having to fight anymore & knowing he's going home. Thank you to anyone who's serving or has served. You're the true hero's!!

These men are all Hero's. The amount of courage it must have taken to do this everyday for months straight with lack of sleep, seeing friends die and not knowing if you would make it home yourself....Absolute Hero's

No disrespect to all the other veterans but this was by far the best episode. I could listen to that man for a week straight and I wouldn't get bored at all.
With all the problems and negativity in the world today this channel and the veterans telling their stores are awe inspiring and should be part of history lessons in schools so the younger ones replace entitlement with appreation and respect for those that made it possible for them to be free and able to go to school now!

I’ve been collecting ww2 artifacts for about a year and half now, and one of my prized possessions of my collection is ww2 (or Korean?) war era us m1 that I got. And the reason why it’s special to me is because it has the signature of an old friend of mine that was a ww2 veteran who sadly passed away from natural causes two months ago.

if its a Garand, there is a website with serial number ranges for all the manufacturers and it'll allow you to figure out the month and year of production....roughly. My M1 was made in Feb 1943. i found it had been rebarreled at some point in its life since the barrel is dated 1945. that can be found in the slot in the upper hand guard where the charging handle slides back and forth

This is the best World War II memoir that I’ve seen especially his message at the end. This is something that should be played in every classroom of America, unfortunately young people today don’t appreciate the freedom they have and the sacrifices that young men their age performed that came before them.

The smartest think this man did in his live was to join the navy.
If we look without all that glamour, the marines can be tough but they get shot more.

Actually this man got shot at just as much. He was apart of a landing ship that dropped marines off under heavy fire 6 different times. And his ship loaded wounded Marines while under heavy fire to bring them back to the hospital ships. And Then later in the war, his ship was targeted by suicide planes! The Navy never faced more fiercer combat than it did in the second World War whether it was in the Atlantic or the Pacific.

My grandfather went to an airbase in England Jan 3 1943 and came back Jan 3 1946. His job was handing out uniforms. He always said he never asked a single man for his size, he just handed out what size he thought would fit, telling them "If it doesn't fit, come back and see me."
My grandfather was also on an LST in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. My grandfather didn't talk about it much but this gives me an idea of what he must have seen. Thank you for posting this incredible interview.

2. Of course I am against Police misconduct of any sort. I try to call it out when ever I see it, but I also think the vast, vast majority of Police officers are good people. I am sick of this narrative that the cops are out on the streets hunting black people or something. I am also really sick of these multi millionaires crying about how hard they've got it. Especially Lebron James who has no problem complaining about how bad the United States is, but refuses to denounce China taking away Hong Kong's sovereignty, or putting Uighur Muslims in concentration camps because he has business interests in China. It's all a joke.

Hearing him talk about having to go back out again really hits home. Here you are lucky to survive and basically being told you have to keep doing it until you die. Talk about pushing your luck.

I had the honor of meeting this man a few days ago. He was an absolute sweetheart. Especially when we got to talking about our time in the military. He’s the most bad ass dude I’ve ever met.

My Grandfather was a Gunners Mate 3rd Class during WWII. He served on board LST 704 during the invasion of Leyte. He was a gun captain on the stern 40mm mount and was wounded October 26th 1944. He later stayed in the Naval Reserve and was called up again during the Korean War and served on the U.S.S. Porterfield DD682.
To accept the fact that you might not even come home at all takes a special person and tremendous courage to continue fighting and serving. As a 25 year old average american today i salute you sir. Thank you for your service.

Now I have a story of the Medal of Honer that my history teacher brought into class when I was in fifth grade.
It is about his dad's friend who he was also friends with and this man was an infantry man who saved his mens lifes one day while on the Italian boot. It was winter and his unit was marching on up the boot in winter. The winter in Italy had slowed the advance and his unit was pinned down by the germans. He climbed into a burning Sherman tank for the mg ontop. He spent 2 hrs on that tank fending off nazis to protect his unit. Once he had repelled them long enough he got out and crawled for another 2 hrs back to friendlies successfully saving his brothers but loosing his legs in the tank from fire and hypothermia.
The way I learned that story was because my history teacher was gifted his medals after he died and he had been awarded a Medal of Honor. It was a piece of metal, practically worthless but what makes it have worth is how you get it. Not by an injury but with an act of extreme valor. That man was a great man and I feel terrible that I can't remember his name but all I know is that he is a legend and a role model of perseverance in a tough situation.
Also I am sorry for the long response with this story, I genuinely forgot about it. I remembered while watching another one of your videos. Thank you for helping me remember this man.
Such sacrifices were never made by men before the 20th century. We will fight to the death to preserve our freedom, and preserve the legacy of the greatest generation in history. For our wives and our children, and our grandchildren. For our freedom, for our friends. God bless america.
I recently had the pleasure of talking to an 80-year-old Royal Marine veteran who fought in Aiden. I could've easily sat there for hours listening to this man talk, he and his wife were lovely people. He was the same age as my grandad, who served in the same place at the same time. If anyone ever gets the chance, I truly recommend going out of your way to hear their first-hand account of their experiences. At some points I had to fight to hold back the tears 😅. Shoutout to Jim and Mary.
I was priveledged, and deeply honored, to meet two of the survivors of the U.S.S. Indianapolis a dozen years ago. I felt like i was shaking the hands of two actuall living super heroes.
Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII. Both earned the bronze star and purple heart and even though they passed away 15 years apart amazingly their both buried at Arlington Cemetery, just a short walk from each other. Now and then I will drive on Arlington and tell my grandfathers how much I appreciate their service and how much I Love Them.
This is a great way to keep these stories for the future. truly the greatest generation. My grandparents grew up in occupied Netherlands, they have all passed on except my fathers mother. She still tears up thinking about the first day of the market garden operation, hiding as the paratroop transports went over their village on the way to Eindhoven, until they heard no bombs and saw the chutes in the sky. Those brave men who fought for people they didn't know, to free them from the boot of another. I doubt I'll ever get a chance to shake the hand of one of those men, but thank them all for giving my grandmother back her life, and the chance for our family to survive. And Thank you for bringing this channel to life and the chance for future generations to hear the stories.

The military channel needs this, the history channel needs this, something needs to pay you what you deserve for brining these stories to the level of production they deserve. And not to reiterate the story but let the men and women who served tell it directly.

My dad was an army medic that also attached to Marine and Navy divisions. He shared in Leyte Gulf, Mindoro, Corregidor, New Guinea, and later occupation force in Japan. His LST was struck by a kamikaze off Mindoro and he also went through the entire war without serious injury (only an ankle strafe wound). He witnessed MacArthur almost get hit by friendly fire as they tried to take out a sniper in the Philippines.
