Rich, I thank your Father for his service.
My Cousin's Brother-in-Law was 21 on June 9th, 1944 and never lived to see 22. He died on Normandy Beach, probably in the Omaha Sector ("Bloody Omaha").
When the Death Camps were liberated in 1945, only then did we realize what a Nightmare a Nazi Victory would have brought to the World and why we had to fight.
I have a Time Magazine from Dec 23, 1940, which I bought in Manhattan, NYC, in 1995, for 20 bucks! (It was 15 cents in 1940!)
In 1940, Time Magazine wrote that, despite pressure from the Nazi Government, the Nazis could not make millions of German Christians do something ---Pray for a Nazi Victory--- which Time called "unprecedented" for a Nation at War.
German Protestants and Catholics (except for the Churches directly controlled by the Nazis) would "pray for the Safety of their Soldiers". but NOT for a Nazi Victory.
They must have recognized something Evil about the Fuhrer.

I'll tell you what, my uncle Roman M. Mierzejewski was a WWII bomber gunner. He made it back home, but not all in one piece. He lived to be 83; unbelievably. He always took the time to relate his experiences to young people. I think that they just could not grasp the enormity and hell of it all; myself included. But when he got with his service veteran buddies, they were in their own world when they spoke only with each other. This is a very, very wonderful channel. One other thing: my mother worked for a doctor her whole life, and I can remember being a child and seeing some of the Jewish patients with the handmade tattoos on their wrists or lower arm put there by the Nazi's for Identification. Eerie.

Thank you for creating these videos it means so much to me and many others who appreciate the sacrifice made in order to keep the world free from tyranny. I knew a WWII veteran who served in the 11th AB within the Pacific and I always wished that I had recorded his stories that he told me when I would spend time with him. Unfortunately he has passed away at the age of 94 and I am the last person he decided to share his stories with. I treasure the memories and experiences he has shared with me. Your content keeps their stores alive and will forever educate the younger generations to come, thank you.

One of my neighbours served in ww2 but I’m way too shy to ask him how it was, but I really want to know his stories as they fascinate me to no end. All I know is that he is 96, was a british fighter pilot (I live in Australia), was shot down and kept as a POW in Germany in 1944, then was released at the end of the war in 1945 where I presume he moved down here. He is in very good shape for his age and seems like a lovely man.

These videos are solid gold. Stories from a different era. Regular decent people stepping up to do what needed to be done.

This channel is amazing. I did some calculations and the youngest surviving veterans are 91 or 92. For example, if they joined in 1945, they would have to be at least 17. That makes them born in 1928. They would now be 92. However, some people faked their age or joined young, but even if they were 15 in 1945 they would be 90 years old today. This is a dying generation and we need to keep their memories. They will be almost completely gone in around 20 years.
May we never forget them and their sacrifices.

You can see the sadness and mental pain he is feeling. Remembering all of this and his fellow crew members. But especially being the LAST one alive. 😥

This is one of my all time favorite channels to watch. I hope you have tons of episodes for the future. I would love to see a Vietnam series too... What these men/women went through... Enough credit can not be given.

Another stellar episode. You do not take the well known survivors first, just the anonymous Joe. Respect. I wish I had done this 40 years ago. No way of making a living on the internet then. Respect to this Veteran survivor, presumed dead and went home. The word Veteran means the same to this life long civilian in 2020. Respect.

My father was in the 44th BG, and also a radio operator and tail gunner. These stories are similar to the ones he told. His plane was shot down in 1944. They saw some terrible things.
