I am a 73yr old male. I have been playing golf since i was about 12yrs old. I have had the occasional pro lesson but most of the time i have watched and practiced pro lessons off You Tube. It’s not until now, the art of simple golf has made my swing feel so much more simple, relaxed and natural. Thanks. John NZ.

Thanks Alex for simplifying and clarifying the golf swing. Most of all I've connected to the way you align the feelings (how it feels) with the key points of the swing, and the license you have given me to make necessary changes (turning the feet out, and swing through the ball)and to allow me to make a more natural and doable swing..Harry

I have done two of your drills.
Place a leaf 1” in front of the ball to focus on that instead of the ball, hitting down on the ball now and added 20-30 yards to each club, such a simple thing has made a huge difference. Also went from hitting straight/fades to straight / draws. Thank you.
The second drill of the pole through the head & out the butt, such a simple swing thought. This has taken my constancy from a 40’ circle to a 20’ circle.
Thanks very much, Truley blown away by to such minor changes

You stated in another video about irons, focus your dominant eye ahead of the ball for the strike. This made a huge difference and I found it to really help. Your comment your about straight arms after impact supports the focus your eye ahead of the ball. It really works. Thanks. Brig

I drive a NYC Taxi for forty nine years. This April is the beginning of my fiftieth year. I have had a sensitive right big toe. So I have hesitated to allow it to get into the act. Being to planted on my right foot has led to an extended lateral movement towards the target. My inability to keep my right arm straight in the follow through is because I have not allowed my left hip the freedom to rotate around in the follow through. I can rotate to the inside of my right foot as you do. I was troubled by not being able to continue with the follow through with a straight right arm. Ben Hogan made it seem so easy. It’s not easy to be critical of oneself. It breaks down your sense of confidence and hopes to have a joyful golfing experience. Maybe some day there will be a virtual golf ball to go with the electronic screen. It can lead to our doing only one thing right at a time.

Thank you Alex. On two occasions I felt the compression and the ball went a lot further with my short irons. I didn't know why but tried to find the sensation again since then with no success. After this video it all makes perfect sense to me now. On both of the occasions I was on a ball below feet position so I made a half swing and kept my upper body low at impact to avoid thin shots. It naturally created a effortless motion through the ball - to release after the impact. But when I tried to copy the motion at a normal ball position I always got fat shots. Now I know the reason is that with normal ball position if I try to keep my upper body down but release early I will hit the ground first. I will try your drill tomorrow and see what happens!

Your lessons are great, I agree on having a fluid swing . To have a fluid swing doesn’t one have to be somewhat tension free to a certain extent. Having worked with heavy tools all my life, sometimes in critical situations I instinctively tense up, which in turn leads to an assortment of striking problems. Also could you show more frontal views, seems to give better picture of the swing pattern your teaching in the various lessons. Thanks, keep ‘em coming

I start with lag and end with lag. I put my hands at address slightly ahead of the ball, but not to much.
I push straight back not moving my wrists until they hinge at the top, then straight to the ball maintaining the lag. I swing through the ball. My swing has improved immensely! Squeezing the top of my arms to my armpits. Eliminating as much hand or wrist movements as possible and keeping my tilt at impact.

Not many teachers highlight this, (Really, really) Loose, tension free arms wrist's, feel weight of club head, don't rush down swing. And what 90% of us do. I have gone from 6 to 9 and just realised this is what i'm not doing. For me, Hardest battle is in the head and trying not to swing hard "at" the ball. Every instinct i have at the top is to kill the ball. Contact, strike is unbelievable when you get this right.

On my irons, should I be putting most of my weight on my left foot when addressing the ball on the set up? Some say that helps you with the follow through, or should I just have even weight on both feet?

More weight on lead side... 60% min. Just unsure upper body does not lean over too much with it.

That is my problem. Not releasing the club head trough the ball. I tend to pull with my left arm and 90% are thin and topped shots. After watching this video I am thinking that the club head never catches up trough the ball in my golf swing. Thanks for this video.

Hi Alex, thanks for this video. Watched it over many times but still not getting how you prescribe to release it. Might seem "natural" to you but there are people like me who have tried many different "ways" to release and so natural isn't natural anymore. There are so many ways to move the wrists. Have now gone through many of your videos in search of the answer and I get the feeling you know a lot about the swing and technical jargon but withholding it for the sake of keeping things "simple". However, I really think some detail would be much needed here. e.g. (1 way says, uncock (ulnar), then rotate forearms, 2nd way says L wrist flexion 1st then uncock & supinate together , 3rd says as you have in Fleetwood, no ulnar just rotate arms/hands in unison with body rotation). We leave DJ release out because that's a totally different release / swing.
What would also be hugely helpful would be for you to demonstrate in slow motion (ala hogan concentration drill) this release you prescribe in multiple angles. ty & subbed!
I'm hugely into this concept you share of a smooth, tension-free, effortless swing as I chanced down this path while having pain in my right shoulder blade - was playing a round the next morning and had to find a way to swing. Overnight just worked on making a motion that wouldn't cause the pain and it answer was to be smooth with more turn, less right arm action and no HIT feel but more a smooth motion to finish and focus on a thumbs up thumbs down method to square clubface. Made a make shift training aid with a towel and a padded swing weight called a swing sock at the end. Just swung it from my right shoulder to my left. Had a really good round in terms of contact and direction. 50% effort but still had 85-90% same distance. I know many positions weren't right, 99% chance my impact angles weren't ideal but I had finally a golf swing and not golf hit.

This is great! And yes have some content coming that is a little more detailed. On here and in our online club. Have you seen the video published just yesterday? It’s about DJ and Fleetwood .
The main thing in this lesson in the stricken the arms and club. That’s the main feel.
But finding which type feels right to you is important. Personally I can go from one or the other which is a blessing and a curse.

Have to ask, at 8.39, your left wrist is flat, perfect, but I just can’t f do that in what ever I try. I find I have to have a very weak left wrist grip to allow it. Neutral or strong i always always always have a cupped left wrist there leading to disasters, hence been the worse golfer in history. Helpppppppppppp

    • @TheArtofSimpleGolf
      @TheArtofSimpleGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

See the latest video published just an hour ago... it will help. Also, you may just be focusing too much on the wrist, allow softer arms and supple wrists to flow more. You have to be aware of what you naturally do for aborning. Fighting it leads to frustration.
