  • Mr. House is the enigmatic ruler of New Vegas in Fallout New Vegas. The choice is given to players in game to choose between House's leadership, or one of the other factions. This video will cover my reasoning for why House is the best choice for the Mojave Wasteland.

Yep with the right actions the NCR becomes less imperialistic and more focus upon stabilizing their already concurred territory. Baja is also probably conquered so the kimball administration won’t be seen as a absolute failure but surly not as the best solution or future of the NCR

@@StarBurstRastaman Powder Ganger ending would have you center your campaign of destruction around Goodsprings after Joe Cobb becomes mayor. You first go north to find the other Powder Gangers and help them in production of explosive weaponry. Instead of getting them to join the Khans or surrender the NCR, you convince the Khans to join up to get revenge on the NCR. Once that's done you have one of the Powder Ganger lieutenants take over Primm instead of Meyers because he isn't truly loyal to the Powder Gangers, and wiping out the NCR presence nearby. Powder Gangers start setting up road blocks to shake down caravans on the Mojave stretch of the Long 15, and push influence all the way to Nipton, which is now under the leadership of Boxcars. Novac is eventually reached via Primm Pass and is left alone for the most part, but the Powder Gangers push out the previous residents of the REPCONN Test Site and establish a secondary headquarters there for controlling the east side of the Mojave. The Novac residents wanting to stay independent of outside rule decides to open up trade relations with the Powder Gangers and Camp Forelorn Hope as well as Nelson are wiped out and occupied by more Powder Gangers. The Powder Gangers push north into the NCR's weakened territorial hold, doing severe damage to the fiends along the way, and setting up in the South Vegas Ruins. After securing a strong foothold in the region you are tasked to meet with the only other explosive enthusiast tribe in the Mojave: The Boomers. Completing Volare! allows you to have howitzer support from major Powder Gang locations as well as a powerful ally. After getting a notification from a messenger that the leadership wants you to join them at the REPCONN Test Site, you're told about the working rockets which are going to be turned into weapons with your help gathering components. When the conversion is complete, you launch the rockets at Camp McCarran, wiping out the last of the NCR presence in the region. With that you're informed about the impending Legion invasion and NCR retaliation and told that the answer may lie in an old military base in The Divide. Launching the ICBMs at both the NCR and Legion completely obliterate the NCR's chances at retaking the region and holds the Legion's invasion back just long enough for you to return. At the second battle, the Legion is pushed back but any surviving members have to traverse a highly radioactive Dry Wells in order to get back far enough into Legion territory. In the end credits, the Powder Gangers acknowledge your above-and-beyond contributions and are crowned Tzar Bomba of the Powder Kingdom. May your rule be long and prosperous and remember: it never gets old when something blows up.

Always thought that House is great because he is actually honest with the courier, unlike NCR, Legion and Yes Man. He shares his plans, gives you easy-to-follow orders and usually provides reasoning for those. He's enraged by breach of contract because he trusts you with his life plan, and expects you to follow up on said trust.
He looks at the bigger picture and doesn't pay too much attention to people in it, unless they have a role to play. Why? Because he had over 100 years to study human nature, witness it pre and after war. Can you judge a man for being pragmatic and ruthless after he has seen several generations of humans repeating same mistakes?
Humanity became predictable to House, yet he still refuses to give up on it. Instead, he gave up on some of his own humanity. Even then, he's not as cruel and stupid as Caesar and not as willing to let people rot as NCR. He's also not 100% AI, unlike Yes Man. House doesn't fear human nature unlike Caesar who attempts to roll humanity back into past, thinking his ultimate control over it will somehow change it forever and prevent further issues, even though history he studied proves the opposite. House also realizes that things can't simply go the way they did before, unlike NCR, and is not willing to half-ass future of humankind.
That said, personally, I wouldn't want to work for House. My lazy butt would land right into the NCR territory. Ambitious life is not for me lmao

The way I see it (self inserting as the courier). He could be his more physical vessel if it meant that we could build back the country bit by bit. Forming the right political and business relationships. Creating infrastructure in such a way that we leave survivors everywhere to rely on us to the point of codependence, for decent sustenance.
That would mean travelling out of the Mojave after building a communications satellite that robert could leverage to gain intel from the courier from any part of the united states. It's an ambitionist's wet dream.

The problem with the Tunnelers is that you can't just scare them away from New Vegas, they need to be exterminated entirely. Otherwise they will eventually overrun the entire country. I highly doubt that cold winters would kill them off in the North considering they're subterranean and heat obviously doesn't bother them as they were born in radiation in the Divide. Their vast networks of tunnels could also collapse hundreds of thousands of miles of ground into caverns (even below sea level allowing highly irradiated ocean water to flood large swathes of land) which would render even more of the country virtually, or entirely, unlivable.

Yes Man could theoretically run things for a while based off of House's plans which he has knowledge of, but after that he's sort of stuck trying to maintain order - which in the long term seems doubtful. Lastly, as you mentioned, the NCR will only lead the US down the same path of eventual destruction through corruption and societal decline over time and the Legion, for all its order and discipline, will eventually(over a longer period) fall into a similar decline without Caesar. House's near-immortality prevents this situation for Vegas, so long as his tech remains stable(this could easily be ensured through his training of Strip technicians or robots(may already be the case). Of course nothing is guaranteed, but House still has the best odds in the long run, especially if large scale automation and maybe even creating some sort of House AI as an emergency backup - he certainly seems capable of doing so.

Fair point but hear is my problem. House's benefits *only* benefit Vegas. So while his plans are long term, it doesn't benefit the Mojave as a whole, therefore arguably worse then a Yes Man ending with all factions and Big MT, Courier with cyborg implants. Remember Ulysses says that House is chasing a dying dream. And Iam more inclined to believe ulysses when you realize that House needs at least a 100 years to even reach the stars. Most people probably Courier even with cyborg implants would be dead by the time vegas is ready to leave the solar system. What the Mojave needs is food, clean water, security, and many other things. And House does not provide *Any* if these to the Mojave, and if he did, his only advancements are simply that,*advancements.* He could care less about actual resources and logistics that keep his people alive. Then actually making the next space program.
Summary: House puts all of his power that could help the Mojave, into a *Space Program* that doesn't even benefit the Mojave whatsoever. And it doesn't help the people in Vegas, especially the 3 families are still struggling under House's rule. Everyone would be dead by the time House gets Vegas into orbit. But that's my opinion.

    • @eagleye2893
      @eagleye2893 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

If you ask me, The only valid endings for me is Legion or Yes Man for the following reasons:
House as mentioned before is more interested in a space program then keeping the people in Vegas especially the families alive. Made evident with the poverty in Vegas.
NCR is like many people said better off not winning at all. They win, they die essentially.
The Yes Man Route is a worse House ending. But because courier can have implants, Big MT, and what not. ( Sierra Madre post DM, Archimedes 1 and 2, Helios One, possibly new canaan, assistance from Graham and Ulysses too. ) And unlike the other endings, the Courier can use all of his tools to his hearts content, without any limitations like House and Caesar with the BOS. However even with all of this, an independent Vegas doesn't really benefit the Mojave. And since Vegas is not under House's influence, courier will still be hard pressed to deciding whether Vegas post Yes Man or Mojave is a priority. Vegas might be better under him, but it's tricky even with life extending implants. It's either risk leaving the mojave to rot, or risk Vegas's advancements to completely stop, especially since Yes Man is a degraded House all things considered
Legion has its major flaws and exceedingly brutal. However the civilization Caesar makes is more worth it then anything House or even Yes Man can offer. It beats falling with a dying republic, it beats starving to death in a city whose ruler only cares about space, it certainly beats an independent city where according to cut content becomes chaotic due to anarchy and ultimately worse then House in comparison. And most importantly, Hegelian Dialectics. Removing any hate towards the Legion for a moment. And you realize thier cities benefit more then the NCRs cities ironically. From nomadic tribe, to rising empire, I will out my bets in Caesar ( granted he lives ) rather then House or Kimball, heck Yes Man might be an alternative In the event any of the factions post game collapses, although it would only benefit the strip, and Courier with all his implants and pre war tech from Big MT would be hard pressed to replicate House's glory. Pointless it actually was.

      4. Problem solved with Vegas under their control. With the NCR only Vegas will be the remaining nation of the Republic. For the Republic dies with Oliver and Kimball, which can only happen in the *NCR* ending.

One flaw he has is regarding the Freeside unrest - he dislikes it if you forge a peace between the Kings and the NCR refugees. Surely, if his main customer source is the NCR, he'd want to maintain good relations with the NCR? You see this with how he wants to keep Kimball and Lee Oliver alive so the blame is placed on them rather than on New Vegas - so he can keep the NCR citizens happily coming to Vegas.

To me the only things he would really want is two things The betterment of humanity (which admittedly is pretty low on his list) and Inflating his ego

I think you did one grave mistake in this topic.
You *trust* House. House is a businessman, *selling* things is his strongest point. By the time courier could verify his claims 20 years later, House will have created a police state with his Securitron army that could not be overthrown by the populace. Wether House intervenes in people's lives or not, it's clear he is set on keeping his power, and doesn't shy away from calling himself an autocrat. If he fucks up, he won't let someone else take over, he will keep the power for himself anyway.
And House already failed multiple times. One thing shows it well, the platinum chip. Both before, and after the war, his inability to get the chip ended with dire consequences. In a timeframe of his plans it's almost guaranteed he will fuck up more. House isn't omniscient, but he plans things almost assuming he is.
And the last thing is actual science. I'm not a lore-buff, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember any signs of House being actual scientists. Most likely he is, like Steve Jobs, Elon Musk or other Techno Barons, just a CEO with actual scientists doing the research. He knows how to fund, how to sell, and how to use technology, but he won't necessarily actually know how to get people in space with Wasteland technology. And the amount of people that could be high-tech scientists is pretty limited in the wasteland.
And even more limited is the amount of those scientists that would like to work for an autocrat with technology to potentially create dystopia.

But what are the alternatives to House?
Yesman? The same problems as House with none of the benefits. We do not know what will become of Yesman, or how a Vegas ruled by him will turn out. All we get is a vague promise of "independence". Will he continue to always do as the last person he talks to says? That's no way of running a functioning government. Will he only do what the courier says? Then you're simply installing the MC as a dictator, even if only by proxy. Will he develop his own personality? Then you have an autocrat with almost the same powers as House, but with a completely unpredictable personality. At best you get a somewhat free and peaceful, but small and largely irrelevant nation. At worst you're creating either an ultimately futile and short-lived country, one doomed to fall into the grasp of the NCR. Or a police state ruled by a wild AI. Or a failed state, one unable to tame in the slightest the brutal madness of the postwar world.
All Yesman offers is independence. House would ensure an independent NewVegas.
The Legion? A brutally effective dictatorship, yes, but one that all signs point to being terminally ill, like Ceasar. Even if one was to approve of the Legion's tactics, they only seem to work thanks to the brilliance of their leader, and once he disappears civil war and violent strife will most likely follow. In the end siding with the pretend Romans amounts to sacrificing all liberty for only a short respite from the brutality of the Mojave, in such a way that, in the end, you gain neither freedom nor security.
All the Legion offers is security. House would ensure a secure New Vegas.
The NCR? I personally like the NCR, sure they may be a genocidally warmongering group of corrupt bureaucrats, but at least they have nice ideals. The problem with the NCR is that they exhume decadence, everywhere we see and hear how tired and overstretched the NCR is at the frontier while at the interior brahmin barons and powerful business interests seem to do as they please. Thankfully we know they're capable of reforming, of salvaging their Republic and fulfilling its promises. They have the mechanisms and the ability to do so. But for that to happen the NCR has to lose the battle at Hoover Dam.
For what are you doing by letting them win but confirming their current course as the correct one? Letting them continue to expand into lands where their presence is unwelcome, into lands that they will struggle to hold, while inequality and corruption fester and other powers rise and grow in the East.
The NCR offers many things, many promises: the promise of old-world democracy, the promise of old-world rights, of old-world security, and, eventually, the promise of old-world prosperity. House promises not only old-world security and prosperity but of achieving wonders beyond those of dead America, is that sufficient recompense for sacrificing democracy and its rights?
Maybe, maybe not. It doesn't matter. The point is that one doesn't have to choose between them.
House needs a prospering and successful NCR for New Vegas to flourish. House's night-watchman New Vegas would likely have many issues, but what it would do bring is bring as much wealth and riches to his dominions as to the NCR, whom, having been defeated, would oust Kimball and be forced to reconsider their priorities. And knowing House chose to work with the American government, not against it, we have no reason to assume House would choose to confront the Californians in the future, most likely preferring to create a symbiotic relationship between both states that would work for the betterment of all.

@@pascalausensi9592 Fair points, I'd say House is better than Yes Man, while worse than both Legion and NCR.
The problem with House is, with his autmoatization and pretty much immortality, he will not fall, and likely won't change.
NCR and Legion can both experience changes in leadership. They can experience revolution to change the corrupt status quo. They are bad choices, I'd argue worse than House, but they aren't final choices, they can and likely will change in the future.
Yes Man and House could be the last nail in coffin of freedom and any equality.

    • @pascalausensi9592
      @pascalausensi9592 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

@@A_B_1917 If House doesn't change then there wouldn't be any problems, though. As currently, he is clearly uninterested in what the people of New Vegas do, as long as they respect their agreements and don't challenge his authority at least.
He also isn't a final choice, as both the Legion and, especially, the NCR would continue to exist and evolve.
Nor an existential threat to liberty. It seems like House would have few if any problems letting dissatisfied citizens emigrate, so those that feel oppressed could just leave. Even to the founding tribes, he gave that option. The ones that continue to reside in New Vegas would, therefore, have chosen to do so of their own volition.

House biggest weakness is that he tries too hard to hide his humanity and emotions. He sees them as a sign of weakness. Those are things that only the fools down below gambling their fortunes away to fund his goals possess. He believes himself to be superior to other people, and demands that they submit to him. He is never interested in anything that does not help him with his goals.
This is clearly shown by his averse reaction to the courier's sense of accomplishment from killing Benny (though he's kinda right), and his illogical insistence on destroying certain factions, justifying it by saying that they are too unpredictable, even though cooperation is possible. The very thought that there'd be variables outside of his control is enough to make him cringe.
House's vision of humanity is devoid of anything resembling emotion, because he can no longer enjoy certain things you and I can. Think about it. What sort of worldly pleasure can he even experience in his state? How could he possibly have any idea what it's like to live in his city, nevermind the wasteland? He doesn't even have any rads in his system lol. This does however make him almost immune to greed and corruption.
In short, yes, House is a better choice than the Legion or the NCR. But he'd be the best choice if he stepped down from way up there and smelled the stench of the city he's trying to revive, and actually contemplated that maybe others are people just like him. He sees his fellow humans as tools and cash cows, putting the blame on them for being stupid enough to buy into the idea of Vegas. Where dreams are born and crushed in the same minute, all to fund his grand dream.
I really want to support him, but I don't think it'd be good living under his rule. At least with chaotic wasteland life you know who you gotta shoot and who you can trust.

Or attempt to usurp Yes Man despite the courier being Idolized in the Yes Man ending because, for example, a civil conflict may arise between those who say OK to Yes Man & NO to Yes man (Like in Fallout 3 with those who left the brotherhood & those who stayed with Lyons) because it IS technology & they should be the one using it not the Courier (Yes, I'm aware that the Courier can become a part of the Brotherhood but let's say that they don't join in this scenario).

The main issue with House is that he presupposes an objective path to "reason" and "progress" without regard for other perspectives. Yeah, technology is great and very logical, but what of art and social discourse? How will House handle ethics and justice? These are intrinsic components of every human society, and a ruler that does not acknowledge them would be poor indeed. House's obsession with mechanical and mathematical efficiency, coupled with his supposed immortality, effectivly detatch him from humans and the Human Condition. Therefore, while an effective ruler, his "human" society would crumble under the totalitarian weight of his autocracy. His "truth" may prove inhuman in the end, and ultimatly destroy that which he wishes to preserve.

But is the Courier not that counterbalance? For House to win, the Courier has to help him, and they get a place in the Lucky 38 just by helping House out with the Battle of Hoover Dam. The Courier's the only person who set foot into the Lucky 38 since the bombs fell (minus the companions), and should be qualified enough to deal with those aspects you mentioned *assuming they aren't braindead (INT 1 CHA 1)*

@@radicallarrythemailman8269 I'm thinking more long term than short. House is immortal, and the courier is entirely at his mercy. It's by no means an equal power dynamic.
House's mathematical nature might just wait until the courier is old and feeble before killing him and taking over.

@@ianian4162. House has already proved his worth with his math skills. Creating almost all of technology in the world of Fallout. He also diverted almost every atom bomb from Vegas and he would have diverted all of them had he had the platinum chip in hand. Only 9 hit the area, 9 out of 70+. Even according to the lore of Fallout, Mojave Wasteland is the least affected area in the country due to House's help. I mean I can understand with your worries, but honestly I'd trust him more than most people. He is the only character capable of rebuilding humanity on a grand scale. Everyone else can only hope to sustain what they already have. Legion and NCR cannot rebuild humanity like House can. Everything he set out to do, he does by the end of the game. He saves NCR from themselves and wipes out the Legion.

@@Deadsea_1993 I don't deny House's capacity to rebuild Vegas. Indeed, he might construct a utopic system where everything functions perfectly. The problem is that humanity, with all its ambiguity, is antithetical to perfection. Mathematically, the best outcome, from House's perspective, would be either the gradual eradication or psychial control of what humans remain. He would have machines do all the work, but then what need he of humans? Or at least of free and autonomous humans?

While House is mostly focused on mathematics, mechanics and logic he would leave alone the things outside of his specialization such as domestic matters and local autonomy.

Assuming that there are more alien species out there other than the Zetans surely those colony ships would need to be stocked with a good supply of weapons as well as the normal food, water, building materials etc.

While I usually go Caesar’s Legion, and have no doubt that without courier intervention they are the most likely to achieve victory, I have no dissolutions of believing they’re the best hope for the Mojave

They’d fail after though, once they invade California, NCR citizens will be willing to defend themselves, even if they don’t support the NCR’s Mojave expansion, anyone would if there was an army of crazed fanatical slaver rapists, and the Legion would have suffered many casualties in the battle of Hoover Dam, with no real benefits from it. So both Lanius and Caesar could die in a full Legion-NCR war, and the Legion would crumble into it’s own small group of warring factions.

I really like your videos and I appreciate how well thought out and tempered they are. That being said, you just have a libertarian voice. Can't help it. It was easy to predict this opinion.
