Hornets are much bigger than bees. Isn't it possible to make a hive entrance which is too small for hornets, but good enough for bees? There can be a good reason why this isn't feasible, but I haven't ever seen it explained.
The hornets will just sit outside the entrance and pick off the honey bees that comes out. Honey bees are really protective of their hives to the point they’ll deplete their foragers and workers in a vain attempt to stop the hornets. Only Japanese honey bees who evolved alongside these giant hornets can effectively defend their hives from giant hornets.
@@Luis-be9mi If there really were a line of hornets in the entrance, the beekeeper would notice that before all 60000 bees are dead. The hornets want pupae, if they can't get them their effort doesn't benefit their own hive much.

Wait for it to sit and then swat that sucker!
Saw two of these in Madras, Oregon today.
Had an encounter with one up in South Lake Tahoe California. the thing got in our car and was about 2 in long everybody jumped out the car. No one was hurt thank God.
Damn really? That’s crazy? This was recently?
yup when im in the woods ima have the strap for the aliens and the bbgun with the drum co2 edition.
Does fipronil (SP?) work on them like it does against yellowjackets "meat bees"?
when 2020 is so chaotic that you missed this initial news
I remember the African Killer bee pandemoniums in the 90s. The media used to make it a big deal. 😒
wasn't that the 70s/80s ?
@@mikaluostarinen4858 Lol, beekeepers don't monitor all their hives every day. There's too many for that. Getting around to them every week or two can be hard sometimes. The hive would be dead way faster than that.
@@michaelo6574 Cameras are cheap, if someone really needs to monitor. Still, I think there can be a way to keep hornets out and even trap them. If they can't get the pupae, their hive won't benefit.
@@mikaluostarinen4858 You would be surprised at how much traffic is coming and going from a beehive. If you plug the entrance during the day, there will soon be hundreds of bees doing holding patterns wondering what is going on.
Lord this has to do with China bugs again ...why can't they keep their bugs to themselves
I live in Louisiana and I think I saw one.
These are not new to America. i've seen these in New Hampshire 15 years ago.
Same here. I saw them in my backyard 4 years ago.
@@dianajensen3215 where is your back yard?
GUAR45 I don’t live there now but it was in Kentucky.
They need to stop ASAP, as this would devastate local food supply sooner than later.
I love people who are passionate about nature, science and research. They do so much for the safety of others. And some cannot even wear a freaking cloth mask during a global pandemic. SMH!!
that sun logo looks creepy
Crud.....Killer bees and now Asiatic Hornets.
🙄😒.
Now I am just waiting for an alien invasion, WW3, or a massive asteroid headed our way.
Just today I think this giant nasty thing is what stung me this year. About 2” long (length of my thumb). Hurt my bones and I couldn’t make a fist for days. I could not find their nest, but I tried because bee stings never do this to me. I took pics of my hand. All our normal bees were gone this year too (the normal hives up in the eves). I’m in Montana. I have a sample of one. The one I have a sample of lived through a recent freeze so I am confused about that.
I have kids around so don’t want these things in my back yard. Our fruit trees didn’t produce this year either. A few sad apples compared to hundreds normally.
I swear I saw something similar in my garden (NWI) not long ago. I wasn't sure but, it was HUGE! I keep my tennis racket close by too, for the white moths who bite chucks out of leaves! 😡
IT'S TIME WE GIVE BEES WEAPONS SO THEY CAN DEFEND THEMSELVES!
So how do you know the Asian bee did it? Did you see it or just skeptical.
Well alright 2020, I’ve had enough.
Calgon, take me awayyyyyyyy!
IKR!! 🤯😟😮😨😵🤕😷🥵🐝
they live in Asia for more thousands of years without any problem of human harassment.
The European bees need to learn from the Japanese bees they don't attack but they did heat them too death.
We’ve had them in Pennsylvania for years, they get stuck in my greenhouse and die, I’ve got a jar of them. Stooooop
Lmao they aren't in PA.
I don't think "destroy them" is the best way to word that.
We pretty much destroyed and continue to destroy all living things
How about making all beehive entries smaller than 1.5” and not allow larger insects into the box in the first place? I’m just sayin...
That what beekeepers in Asia do I think.
This is terrifying.
The UNIVERSE does not make insects to be deadly to humans. Leave them alone. You are not learning or participating correctly.
I thought the wasps eat the bees too. What a horrible and wasteful species.
i remember seeing theses hornets back in the early 90s
this is not true they been in north america for years
@@standingtall2948 That they have.
Just put your mask on and they wont bother you!
Not true
@@JPL454 you don’t say lol
@@JPL454 you slow?
So, serial murderer hornets?
Seriously..
That is one helluva suit 3:15
Hopefully these hornets don't get as bad as the European hornets that we already have.
those hornets are waaaaay more powerful than the European one. hopefully they dont get to boost their population
