I’ve lived in Taipei Taiwan and one of the best things is the public restrooms. They are everywhere and clean and supplies are always good. It’s a basic universal human necessity. And should be everywhere
And make a public statement that rationing bathrooms "for customers only" when we have no public parks infrastructure /public space disinvestment is cruel and inhumane.
Thank you for your comment! I'm a male architect whose wife and daughters don't use a purse so it's good to see this and learn what the users of my facilities want.
Berneche2 Architecture PC That’s great! When you wash your hands, it’s not always practical or possible to have your purse on your shoulder. Sinks don’t always have a counter to set it on. And if they do , inevitably the counter is soaked and quite vile.
For the "I hold it until I'm home" status quo defenders: Well, not everyone is you and hope you never get disabled, like IBS or Pancreatic disease! Because obviously what works for you works for everyone! Oh and people who want to do more than ONE thing a day might like free public restrooms too. #RestroomsForCustomersOnlyIsCruelAndInhumane
From the TH-cam video "Southerners During Quarantine," "I mean. are you surprised that we're having to tell people how to wash their hands? It's only been three years since we had to tell everybody not to eat Tide Pods."
I can only guess some or many say i in hurry and dont have time to wash any. even now as some or many wash ands more often then before cause virus and such. this virus is controlling and changed a lot now and for future ideas.
Women probably don't know this, but its an unspoken rule that if you break the 1-3-5 rule, everyone else in the bathroom is legally allowed to arrest you for your crimes.
Except at my work, and probably plenty of others' as well, where there's only two urinals, someone will always come over to the one next to the one I'm using instead of utilizing the open stalls.
Here are some ideas Toilet covers with foot lift, foot toilet flash button, Foot Door handles, button door handles for people in wheel chairs, touch less sink with bag (hook);paper towel; and trash cans, completely private stall with bag holder(hook). Y’all could have done this a long time ago.
In my area there is a business that makes a small metal clip for the bottom of the door so you can easily use your shoe to open it. Great for if you are carrying a toddler.
Read recently public restrooms without lids for toilet (does that really exist) was a place for Covid to be in the air in the bathroom from flushing. A lid is needed to stop the microbial from being airborne when flushing. Me thinks They will need to make the lids automatic, cause no one is going to touch the lid. Everyone will end up wearing Depends when they go out🙂!
You should also discuss how new architecture for office design had created large communal office spaces with no offices. You can interview Microsoft and Kraft Heinz for examples.
One of the hard realities of life: a filthy public restroom when you have no other choice. I remember that in Italy and France many of these facilities had attendants at the door to minimize problems.
@@doubledthread56 Yes, we had to pay something but I remember at the time that it was not exorbitant. The official word was that you were buying toilet paper -- in fact the stalls had no toilet paper in them so that was how it worked.
Noe Berengena Ah okay my only experience was I went on a vacation to Paris 2 years ago and I had to pay for public restroom usage- didn’t know what it was for
You'd be surprised how many people don't wash their hands, or simply splash some water on their hands and shake it off within 5 seconds. It happens everywhere in this country but nobody calls attention to it
Between 24 and 45 million Americans have IBS, and with restrooms closed all over the country or lessened by taping off stalls, it is a nightmare with people who have live with that disability. People with any gastro condition are miserable right now, and many have become all but housebound. Let's hope they find better solutions soon.
France’s on the street public restrooms are automated -completely sanitized between uses. Someone should talk to them. And why aren’t we simply going back to the UV light in the toilet stall?
An easy fix, even if temporary, is to have covers over the toilet seats. One of the grossest aspects of public toilets is the lack of covers. Home toilets have covers but not public toilets?
I always hated public bathrooms in America, but after traveling in Europe and Asia and using their toilets with floor to ceiling walled in booths, I despise US public restrooms even more.
On behalf of blind people, if they plan to put lights on stalls, what are they going to do to incorporate the design to make it easier for those of us who are blind?
I try to time things to go at home. However, I carry bleach wipes and disposable gloves and clean the toilet before I use it if I have to. I bring my own paper towels so I don't have to use the noisy air dryer. In the car we have male and female hand-held urinals, and pull up diapers to wear. And for longer periods, there is the garbage bag lined five gallon bucket with sawdust to cover things. And a small camping shovel. At home, I installed a bidet, so less need for toilet paper.
Wow! This brings back Mom telling you to wash your hands while growing up..and now asking Did you wash your hands is being told to adults..My Mother drilled this into me and my siblings and to my children when they were growing up. My youngest is 35 and he is the most dedicated hand washer I have ever seen. We all need to do this and I am glad to see that toilets are self flushing and that we do not have to touch as many surfaces. I have never liked the air dryer..it always felt like germs were being blown on me. I know most people do not feel this way but with this pandemic and everywhere you see how many people are getting covid-19. I would rather be safe than sorry. Thank you for putting this out for all of us to see..and I think we all need to say "Thank you Mom!"
All public bathrooms need their own shower. In other words, have the entire thing be waterproof and put a hot water shower head overhead. Like a car wash. With soap added, then a rinse. Each day or every shift. Then the cleaning staff doesn't have to be exposed so much. And they won't be as likely to transmit it between the men's room to the women's (and, I guess, vice versa, but less likely, IMO). And not to their family and friends.
There are days I just want to close the men’s room and just have a sign pointed at everything shrubs outside. As a female I HATE the men’s room. They pee everywhere and DON’T FLUSH. Oh, and didn’t wash their hands.....😭
Have them like they used to have in Europe. A hole in the ground that you stand over and go. But that won’t stop people from still rubbing their noses right after they wipe theirselves!!! Mommy and Daddy never taught them not to do that.
I wish they would look at Asian countries and how they use public rest rooms and Canada I think they should have something in every stall for anyone to use to sanitize the stall without the person stealing the products I think gloves and sanitize wipes and a mop and broom should be left inside the men's and women's rooms for starters!!!
"Easy to clean" --Dear God(though I am doubting its existence now), why does almost every design for mundane things seem to favor convenience(usually for the manufacturer or operator) instead of functionality for the user? Heck, I used to live in Texas, and would see these "drive thru" ATM machines with braille on them...no wonder we got so many car fatalities down there.
Those ATMs are occasionally used by people who come on food, even occasionally the blind. The same machine that is installed in drive-thru lanes at banks is also installed in indoor settings that the blind would be more likely to use.
I wish that in New York City and in the rest of the USA, there are many bathrooms (including many public bathrooms) that are mixed-sex, have at least two toilets, the toilets (1) have no doors, (2) have no stalls, (3) have no privacy, both men (including cis men) and women (including cis women) are allowed to use and actually use this type of bathroom together at the same time, all people of all sexes (including both cis men and cis women) are allowed to and actually (1) expose their private parts to all people of all sexes (including both cis men and cis women), (2) look at the private parts of all people of all sexes (including both cis men and cis women), (3) be naked in front of all people of all sexes (including both cis men and cis women), (4) look at all people of all sexes naked (including both cis men and cis women), and if this type of mixed-sex bathroom (including mixed-sex public bathroom) were allowed to exist and actually exists, I would use it. Whoever does not like this kind of mixed-sex bathroom must be given the use of a bathroom that gives privacy and/or is same-sex thus, each and every person be given a choice and thus, each and every person be pleased. I seriously don’t know how the men can pee out in the open, crazy. Don’t get me started on the awful hand dryers that blow bacteria and viruses around and the jet engine flush of every public toilet.
The most private of those spaces? Guys calling themselves "women" ruined those safe spaces. A p*nis is an additional appendage that can be used without hands or legs. Women only have four appendages. Don't bother to say a transgender "woman" wouldn't assault a woman because they're not interested in women. 1) R*pe is known to be a crime of power, not desire. 2) There are now enough instances of transgender couples who identify as the opposite sex, but kept all the machinery, and the "man" gives birth because they didn't have bottom surgery. These couples are having sex as their born gender. Ergo, bathrooms are NO longer safe spaces for women. If a born male truly identifies as a woman, then transgender women should be able to have compassion for born females who 1) usually have less upper body strength than born males, 2) we don't have a 5th appendage that can be used as a tool to hurt born women if a transgender woman has a need to exert power in a violent way (again, r*pe is known to be a crime of power and not of attraction). Lastly, guys are taking over our sports, our bathrooms, etc. When are women going to stand up and realize we're in danger of becoming second class citizens again? ?

And why because automatic flushing toilets spray more germs and that’s created more virus then normal toilets and hand dryers they need banned too because hand dryers spray germs too
Love (not) how more and more I'm hearing about businesses/gov that are focusing on wanting people to "feel safe". But lets focus instead on making sure we actually ARE safe. BE safe, be well, be kind. Blessings to you all.
Bathrooms are a lot cleaner now. Touchless. Facilities are best. Should have a Anti-viral.spray that automatically goes off.after each visitor..slow the spread. sorry we dont have basc rights in U.S., we pay taxes to bailout corporate america.
Hey American bathroom association, please add purse hooks at the sinks.
I agree!
Put them back on door, just lower so thief can’t reach over from top!

I like the idea of no more peep space. It's weird.
I can't believe there are actually people that don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. Gross!

@Chas Stack good for you , u did the right thing
I can't believe there are people who do. Nothing screams uptight and prissy like being unable use a restroom without washing your hands afterwards.
@Chas Stack Clearly you weren't a friend worth having. No great loss for your former friend.
I can’t believe he apologized for using the word flush
They didn’t need to put out of order tape on every other urinal. There is an unspoken law of men’s restrooms that you leave a buffer urinal.
👍🍺

Like I tell my kiddos...Pee before you leave home!
Americans lost focus on hygiene which is one reason Corona spread .

American restroom association - who knew ?
You are right please save God when I see you Peace in love try to be hippie
and positive
Yeah..that, and the Sunday Morning sun logo uses the bathroom, too
Considering how NON-EXISTENT free public bathrooms are, you could be forgiven. #RestroomsForCustomersOnlyIsCruelAndInhumane
All public bathrooms need windows, fresh air, sunlight, skylights in every stall. Better air circulation with UV in the ductwork.
Read recently public restrooms without lids for toilet (does that really exist) was a place for Covid to be in the air in the bathroom from flushing. this is why i have a 5 gallon bucket/lid everwhere i go ... never have I seen such a clean restroom in america or travels
One of the hard realities of life: a filthy public restroom when you have no other choice.
I remember that in Italy and France many of these facilities had attendants at the door to minimize problems.

Could you imagine how germy the casinos could possibly be? Not just the restrooms
Just a new way to gamble. With contagion.
You'd be surprised how many people don't wash their hands, or simply splash some water on their hands and shake it off within 5 seconds. It happens everywhere in this country but nobody calls attention to it
How to prevent plume? Close the lid or install lids. Also I think Americans should adopt use of washlets like in Japan.
Not washing their hands doesn’t surprise me when two out of three people use their phone in the stall - Yuck❗️ 💩 🤮
Last year at this time 🕘 who would have ever dreamed that going 2 the 🚽 would have become so complicated. 😷
It's not that complicated now if you have the sense God gave a goose.
Who else watched this while taking a dump?
I have always felt that Public Restrooms were (ARE) ticking Time bombs
Between 24 and 45 million Americans have IBS, and with restrooms closed all over the country or lessened by taping off stalls, it is a nightmare with people who have live with that disability. People with any gastro condition are miserable right now, and many have become all but housebound. Let's hope they find better solutions soon.
Americans need to accept the bidet. It’s so much more hygienic than the alternative and better for the environment.
I'm never using a public restroom again. From now on it's adult diapers when I go out.
All the apologies, like for saying "flushed"... just reminds me that a ton of us are coming from a painfully puritanical background.
France’s on the street public restrooms are automated -completely sanitized between uses. Someone should talk to them. And why aren’t we simply going back to the UV light in the toilet stall?
Maybe put Chlorox wipes in the stalls so people can wipe down the seat and the flush handle themselves.
You practically need to pay some people to wash their hands. Hey, maybe casino chips?
I will go to the bathroom at home from now on!
As long I don't have to poop in the street. I will if I have to.
An easy fix, even if temporary, is to have covers over the toilet seats. One of the grossest aspects of public toilets is the lack of covers. Home toilets have covers but not public toilets?
How soon before we have clothing that allows you to go to the bathroom in place and compacts your waste for you to toss later?
I agree on purse hooks! Can't exactly hold it on your lap & the floor is ugh! Think I will buy an over the door hook to carry with me.
I always hated public bathrooms in America, but after traveling in Europe and Asia and using their toilets with floor to ceiling walled in booths, I despise US public restrooms even more.
Bathrooms are fine. Keep them clean and wash your hands. No reason to spend all that money.
I agree. The promo is a waste of money.
I wish we didn't need COVID to tell us how to stay clean and safe.
On behalf of blind people, if they plan to put lights on stalls, what are they going to do to incorporate the design to make it easier for those of us who are blind?
They need to rethink restroom doors. Maybe a set of two screens or walls that are offset, so no door needed.
I try to time things to go at home. However, I carry bleach wipes and disposable gloves and clean the toilet before I use it if I have to. I bring my own paper towels so I don't have to use the noisy air dryer.
