No because if you add up all the oxygen atoms on both sides of the equation they come to the same number. It's OK to use 0.5 in balancing equations for combustion.

No but you should be able to write a complete combustion equation for any hydrocarbon so it's really important that you understand it.

These are based on the AQA spec but the overlap with Edexcel is very large.
