I have a Fire HD8 from 2018 and it was so extremely slow and irritating, especially when I am used to my Note9 and gaming pc. I never used it, so I ended up loading LineageOS on it via the method where you short a pin inside to ground. It was a bit of a pain to do, but now that I have a stable build of LineageOS on it, it is actually usable. It's really amazing how much difference a change in software can make. I'm thinking of putting it on my coffee table as a Phillips Hue slash Chromecast device.
I did this just now. The new amazon app used seemed to make it even easier and took some steps out. Ex. The ads, it disabled automatically to my kindle (I think..from what prompts said) and didn't make me do kindle steps. Also be aware app prints are a little different but easy to if and very clear on what you are selecting, doing as well as undoing anything you did. Affect, opened a few app, silk etc, seemed normal. Did have to reload amazon for minecraft as that is where I got it. Easy fix with the app! Kindle seems to be moving a bit quicker
Fire Toolbox does not remove any apps from the Kindle tablet, it only hides them, which is what the toolbox calls it in version 12. I tried with version 7.3 also and the apps are still there, just disabled, so there are 20 or so apps residing in internal memory doing nothing. I could not even load Google services because there was not enough memory and it would not load on SD card.
5:14 - Can I just say that I love that he referred to that as the little pancakes? My whole life I've only ever heard it called the burger button, but now I'm always referring to it as the pancakes!

Thanks for the help. It is looking real nice so far after do all this stuff. I got spooked when my Prime Video app disappeared as I am Prime subscriber and I couldn't get it back in Google Store but when I went to the Amazon Prime Video on Chrome, it let me enable it back and it worked. I don't see Netflix in the google store but I don't have Netflix subscription anymore.... Update: I got free trial Netflix subscription and it initially said I am unable to get the Netflix app. It says "My device isn't compatible." but I found the way to get it back with hybrid app in the toolbox so I got netflix back.
How do you set the new launcher as default? It says 'Nova is not set as default, tap to set.' When you tap it, it just takes you to the Fire settings menu?
I might do this to an old Fire Tablet I have laying around... I really think Amazon should've stuck with stock Android as it would've made them a lot more enjoyable to use.

Chris Titus Tech I guess Amazon is just trying to make more money off of all their consumers. I usually use that tablet for fiddling and tinkering because that’s all it can really do. It doesn’t make a good daily driver, so that’s why I own an iPad. Apple has done plenty of annoying things, but the iPad was one of the only tablets to survive
I use an Android phone, a Dell laptop, a Raspberry Pi 4 as a temporary desktop alternative, and I own a bunch of somewhat old Macs that I use for music storage. Also, if you haven't tried this already, Manjaro makes a great Rasperry Pi version that I'm currently using. I recently disassembled a fire tablet from 2017 and I tried to root it, but I think I may have rendered it unusable. 😂😂 I guess you gotta learn the hard way sometimes. 😂😂
Can you use the toolkit to only remove 'some' Amazon stuff (like start screen ads) and then add the Play Store and a hand full of Google apps to the Amazon OS tablet? I'm wondering if the tablet can kinda run as a hybrid running Amazon OS and all the Amazon apps, as well as a handful of Google apps. Do tell....
Hi Cris, I tried the last version of the tool (8.0) on my 7th generation HD7 and it crashed. So I installed version 7.3 that worked fine. BUT, it removed the keyboard. So I needed to reset it back to factory, do a partial debloat, installed the Nova launcher, then the Swiftkey keyboard and finally go to a full Amazon Debloat. This way it worked, but I constantly get a parental warning that I was not able to remove. Do you have a tip on how to avoid having that parental message removed? Thanks a lot
Great guide. It speeds things up by not running many processes. A little misleading since none of that bloat is actually removed. It's all still there, only disabled, still taking up valuable space.
Hello..I turned on developer tools and turned on USB debugging. I noticed that "verify apps over USB" got turned on as well. When I scrolled down I noticed that "disable Bluetooth a2dp hardware offload" was also turned on. Just wanted to verify because when I was moving the USB cable over the tablet, noticed that something showed on the window then disappeared. Cable may have hit the tablet and turned on one of the settings. Can you please advise before I proceed. Just got this 2020 Fire HD 10 earlier this week. It wasn't on the compatibility list for the V9 Toolbox yet.Thanks
Do they have any tracking on when you buy a subsidized tablet and cut the ads? Any breach of contract concerns? How does this compare to running LineageOS?
Doesn't seem like it. I think Amazon still thinks that it is sending you ads. The developer just made a disclaimer in legal jargon that you break your contract with Amazon with the ads. I have an ad support Fire and have been running the ad blocker for a few months now. I would assume Amazon doesn't care about the small percentage of nerds like us disabling their ads. They are already making boatloads of money from all the millions of users they are forcing ads down their throats.

Hey Chris, I've been trying this for the last hour on my Fire 7 (7th Ed). The Toolbox software is "seeing" the tablet when I click on "View ADB Status" but I'm NOT getting the dialog box to authorize the tablet. What am I doing wrong?

I received ines yesterday the main screen closes, the volume goes in and out I returned mines for a exchange hopefully it was just a defect not good so far
i'm having problems downloading apps from google play after following these steps. I've cleared cache and data but nothing. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? Error Code: -505
I added the play store by just downloading the files and installing them. The lockscreen ads I dont mind, mostly because I like my lock screen to be live or change often. As far as lal the other bloat I generally don't mind it either, because I do still use my tablet primarily for reading. I play games on it and use it for my security cameras as well but mainly its for reading.
This may be redundant, but would it be possible to have the "Amazon Kindle" app to be functional (reading books) or no, considering all of this debloating and removing lockscreen ads? It sounds like either you have Amazon on your Kindle or not at all? Also, I am wondering, if you use Novo Launcher; is there a way to keep it running? What I mean is when I press that center button (like the home button), it goes back to the default kindle app display.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Since this isnt done with root, basically its just hiding all the amazon crap. Not actually uninstalling it. Is it stopping any of the processes? I actually used the toolbox when I saw it on your page. Obviously its a cleaner look, but not sure there is an actual performance benefit
You can manually select the packages using ADB, see the debloat android video, but this application just does everything for you and why I showed it. The dev did say he will include Linux functionality in the future.

Furthermore, I was not able to use the scrcpy, my computer (wind10) did not accept or work with it... :-/ had to do it directly on the tablet.

However, I have a strange issue with my Amazon 7 Fire: I cannot access my bank account through it because when I scan the "QR code" from my bank on-line, it appears deformed (actually, vertically stretched)! Strangely, when I use the camera for other purposes the image is perfectly regular. I checked with my bank's HelpDesk and they told me to empty the cache, remove and reinstall the banking app, which I did. But still, the same problem! Any suggestion, please? Tks, Luigi

I did it Amazon fire tools kit 8.2 in Fire 7 kids version. But cannot install kindle app from Google store. It always ends up with error message. I hid parental control with the tool kit as well but no luck. Please advise. Thanks.

It would not download google services. Now what? I did factory reset, then did manual disable advanced, and selected only a few such as advertising an alexa but and it claimed to have disabled but when I did a restart it was all still there. I then did the simple disable and selected some more. The main thing I want to do is disable the advertising and it has not done it.
Only problem with this is your Tablet will no longer get system updates for the Fire OS which can be bad if the version of Android that particulur Fire OS is based on is no longer compatible with certain apps you may want to use.

You can, and definitely should, disable OTA updates with Firebox. Amazon loves to break/block firebox's patches with their updates. If you've updated at all since getting your Fire, you're SOL.
PROBLEM: Hit the REMOVE EVERYTHING button, and I watched the icons on the homescreen start to disappear. Cool. Then it rebooted. Now its sitting there in a loop telling me FIRE IS STARTING. Not cool. Anyone know what's happening? -Jeff

I got scared to remove the ads due to the legal warning! But the app seems to have updated...I cant get past the part where you remove ads as everything is worded differently and I dont know where it is. Any advice?
Before my Fiance bricks the tablet I modded for her using this step by step. Is it safe for her to install the amazon system update on her tablet? Even if I have to disable everything again and do the whole process again. Just let me know if it's ok to do a system update because she still uses some of the amazon built-in apps

However, I have a strange issue with my Amazon 7 Fire: I cannot access my bank account through it because when I scan the "QR code" from my bank on-line, it appears deformed (actually, vertically stretched)! Strangely, when I use the camera for other purposes the image is perfectly regular. I checked with my bank's HelpDesk and they told me to empty the cache, remove and reinstall the banking app, which I did. But still, the same problem! Any suggestion, please? Tks,

I did it Amazon fire tools kit 8.2 in Fire 7 kids version. But cannot install kindle app from Google store. It always ends up with error message. I hid parental control with the tool kit as well but no luck. Please advise. Thanks.

It would not download google services. Now what? I did factory reset, then did manual disable advanced, and selected only a few such as advertising an alexa but and it claimed to have disabled but when I did a restart it was all still there. I then did the simple disable and selected some more. The main thing I want to do is disable the advertising and it has not done it.
Only problem with this is your Tablet will no longer get system updates for the Fire OS which can be bad if the version of Android that particulur Fire OS is based on is no longer compatible with certain apps you may want to use.

Also the enable ADB is not there in Developer options.

You can, and definitely should, disable OTA updates with Firebox. Amazon loves to break/block firebox's patches with their updates. If you've updated at all since getting your Fire, you're SOL.

PROBLEM: Hit the REMOVE EVERYTHING button, and I watched the icons on the homescreen start to disappear. Cool. Then it rebooted. Now its sitting there in a loop telling me FIRE IS STARTING. Not cool. Anyone know what's happening? -Jeff
FIXED. Just rebooted/restored to factory, and then did it all again. Worked this time.

So this will disable the amazon apps, but it does not remove them to free up the storage space? Is there another video or process I am missing for this step?
I got scared to remove the ads due to the legal warning! But the app seems to have updated...I cant get past the part where you remove ads as everything is worded differently and I dont know where it is. Any advice?

Before my Fiance bricks the tablet I modded for her using this step by step. Is it safe for her to install the amazon system update on her tablet? Even if I have to disable everything again and do the whole process again. Just let me know if it's ok to do a system update because she still uses some of the amazon built-in apps
Thanks for this, Chris! I was previously attempting to follow a couple full root and flash tutorials for my Fire HD8 2018, with little success. This tool made it idiot-proof and now my daughter has a solid little game and netflix tablet without all the Amazon junk (save for Prime Video).
When I do the disable everything Amazon one of those apps I don't remember what it was It triggers my parental controls for some reason

Check on your tablet, there should be a prompt... If no prompt on tablet, change usb from charging to file sharing and it will prompt you.
