Astro makes good stuff. I have a similar kit from them and I really like it. Great review with spot on commentary.

I have a similar kit and they all seem to work well. A couple of viewers commented that there is a special grease for them screw threads that apply so much pressure . I looked at the grease and it was crazy expensive so I just spray a bit of lube like most.

Yeah special grease is a no go, plus grease just collects crap

Some good advice and all, but the cheap ball joint tool kits from Harbor Freight that people complained about are not the type of kits that you use air impact guns on. These kits are cheap and are most intended for a conventional ratchet or breaker bar.

I had no clue that a Chrysler 300 front lower ball joint in the steering knuckle would be posted in this video lol. When I saw that you posted in the title Chrysler 300 I damn near woke the house up like Superbowl Sunday lol. I was getting ready to buy a 20 ton shop press for this job to replace the front lower ball joints from Harbor Freight. I have been searching youtube on how to remove front lower ball joints on a Chrysler 300 and was not confident enough to even do it. I have seen guys hammer and torch and drill holes in the bottom of the ball joint prior to removal. After watching your review on the Astro Masrter Ball Joint kit I am now confident to purchase this and attack this job head on, excellent video!!!!

Hey Jonathan just wanted to give you a heads up on my progress. I went with the Astro 7897 and let me tell you that thing is a beast. Of course I went with the Harbor freight Earthquake, it seems like what you would not find at Princess Auto you would find at Harbor freight. I got everything loose with the ball joint separator but when I went for the lower ball joint at the bottom of the knuckle the ball joint kept on spinning and I rounded the bottom out. Had to cut the nut with a nut buster lol. Any how, it drove it out like a boss and pressed in the new one with no sweat. I saved so much money doing all the work myself with the right tools for the right job. Thanks for your videos.

Great set. I have the Princess Auto version also and haven't had any problems with it yet. but I've probably only used it twenty times so far. Seems pretty tough. I would like to get the expansion pack though.
The Snap On BJP is the king of the hill when it comes to ball joint presses but the price is a little high for me. Maybe if I was doing ball joints, U joints and studs all the time...
    Good video, thanks!

I hear that snap on press is the boss . I haven't had a chance to use it but I remember being on the snap on truck and one guy was frustrated with his ball joint press so he just dropped the $700-800 (I forget the price) to buy the snap on one . I thought he was crazy 😂

    That Chrysler was angry. Damn.
That Forcing Screw is a perfect candidate for white lithium grease.
    Stays put, big shear strength.
There's no real "lubrication" with penetrating oils.

I haven't had issues with it but i have two different sets and i alternate between them so i dont use the astro kit as much as i could be using it.for the price you cant go wrong

  • @LynxStarAuto
    @LynxStarAuto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Funny that this video was in my recommendations. This kit was one of the first BJ service kits I ever bought. I got it off the Mac truck. Back then (circa 2010-2011) it didn't bring as many cups and brought two forcing screws. One of the screws was very short for tight clearances on vehicle. Sadly, they have done away with it.
I got a good 7-8 years out of mine seeing weekly use on the vehicles I service which is Euro cars (mostly mercedes). Eventually, I traded it in when Snap On ran a promotion on their BJ service kit. They would give you 150.00 for your old kit and apply it to the Snap On kit. Which the Snappy one is probably the best one in the industry. I paid a little over 200.00 for the Astro kit. So for Snap On to give me 150.00 for mine after almost a decade was like a major level up.

    Hello.
Can you give me your opinion on the quality of the Astro kit?
As good as the mark OTC?
    Made in USA?
    Usable at the Impact Wrench?
I would like the used on Jeep XJ.
    Thank you.

Improper use of any tool, resulting in it's breakage or failure
is usually operator error. Sure- if you clamped this in a vise,
used a huge leverage bar & pipe- yea- the C-clamp will bend
or fracture. Normal use with normal pneumatic or electric
tools as shown here- I can't see any deformation taking place.
    Those reviews be hatin.
