- Issues on retail trade liberalization and foreign investments turned the heat up on Saturday’s vice presidential debate hosted by CNN Philippines as vice presidential bet Walden Bello clashed with Senators Vicente Sotto III and Francis Pangilinan.
The purpose kasi of opening our economy to foreign investors ay to have more inflow of cash investment that will help our economy and also provide more jobs. Kung aasa lang tayo sa local business to flourish e matatagalan tayo. Big companies like Ayala, SMIC, SMC usually partners with foreign companies when it comes to big business projects.

tignan mo yung mga call center sa aten... most yan foreign... maayos ang pa sweldo and yet those companies like ebay uk or hsbc.... nakaka tipit paren sila rather than pay UK wage of say minimum £9.45 per hour.... they're now paying around £12 for whole days work ahahha....
And to be honest... ang quality ng call center agents saaten is SUPERB... Their english is impecable.
Ang simplistic kasi ng pagtingin nito. And pinaka pangunahing problema kasi natin sa ekonomiya natin sa Pinas, ay hindi matatag mga industriya natin. Problema naman rito kung bakit hindi natin magawa ito, kinukurakot palagi ang bayan natin ng mga mayayamang dinistiya na nasa estado.

We have to end this thinking of economic protectionism when in fact, it has never worked in the entire history of the Philippines. Singapore did not become rich by letting it's citizens monopolize the market, instead it encouraged companies to stay and and create opportunities for the country. Let the local businesses compete fairly with other companies regardless of where they come from, because that is where true innovation will come.

why do you say that? look at all first world countries like USA and Singapore. Their economies are free and liberalized. For many years, our economy has been so restricted to foreign investors. The Philippines has a separate Legislative and Executive branch (unlike in some countries where both are done by the parliament). Yung pagmomonitor at pagpapatupad, kaya nga tayo may executive branch because trabaho nila yan. The problem is yung executive branch natin mismo ang lumalabag sa mga batas. This has been seen in both the Aquino and Duterte administrations, but has been more flagrant under the latter.

Pangamba ng mga foreign investors sa Pilipinas:
1. Corruption in our government is rampant.
2. A lot of permits before they cam build businesses(also alot of corruption involved in the process).
3. We have alot of natural disasters every year so they worry about building infrastrutures here.
4. Our local oligarchs won't allow it so they'll control their puppet politicians to hinder the success of the foreign investors.
5. NPAs and other rebel groups.

Fair and balanced trade policies with individual countries are key but ultimately, the Philippines needs to focus on how best to compete. We need to trade liberally and conservatively on certain things as there is not one silver bullet to address all trade issues.

Foreign investment in the Philippines is good if PH had a trading hub in the Pacific coast especially in Aurora and Quezon.
Walden Bello has a point, but for our economy to become competitive more is to go with the flow. If this act or law allowing the foriegn investor to be given more incentives where in fact it really works in other asean countries why cant we also do the same here in the philippines? More foriegn investment will create more jobs. And it will also challenge our local companys to become more competitive by producing more quality products. And by the support of our government in helping sme thru financial assistance I think there will be no problem at all.
