- BREAKING DOWN
Part of vanlife is the possibility of your home no longer working and you become stranded unable to drive away.
For me this week, this reality happened and for the first time in my life I've had to have my van towed.
After Tonka passing away and needing some time alone I headed to Nerren Nerren just out of Canarvan heading towards Geraldton in Western Australia.
Having camped here before I felt that a few days alone could really help in the process of no longer having my little buddy Tonka with me.
After 2 days it was time to pack up and hit the road heading towards Perth.
The van wouldn't start? WTF!
After a process of elimination and Google search, had come to the conclusion this was not an easy fix and needed to be towed to the nearest town.
After calling my road side assist insurance company and trying to get some help, realised after many calls that it was going to cost me a fortune even with my insurer to cover some of the cost.
Calling around myself to find out it was going to be much, much cheaper to organise and do this myself. CANCELLED THE INSURANCE CLAIM
NOTE TO SELF - Seek new insurer
Once I had organised the tow truck, waited, ate and waited some more, he finally came and we hit the road to Northhampton.
Made another 20 calls to mechanics in the next biggest town Geraldton to book in the car.
So for this week I'm hanging in a car park in Northhampton waiting for Monday to come so the tow truck drive to pick the van and me up again to tow the van to Geraldton to have the van fixed.
Fingers crossed it doesn't break the bank account.
Things just happen that are put of your control. While I wait some I enjoying some self care and relaxation.

I got my van terribly bogged in red mud just outside of York a month or two ago. It was stuck up to the chassis. Worse still, the area where I got stuck was a black ant nest, there were millions of them, and they were not super stoked that I'd just destroyed their home. There was no phone signal to call anyone. Then it started raining. I went for a long walk into town, got some phone signal, and got a tow truck driver to come out. He wasn't able to tow the van out of the mud, but he had a mate with a big 4WD and a snatch strap, who pulled me out. Cost me $400 all up. As shitty as that was, it wasn't the worst van dweller experience I'd had, and at least the van still worked afterwards. I hope you are able to fix your van soon without too much trouble.
OH my God
That would have tested anyone. Think we all do a something and hopefully we learn from it.
The vans up and going although I'm not convinced it's fix properly. 😁
Nice to see U back on line Leanne
Missed you
Liquorice and nuts!! I hope the towie makes a restroom stop for you!
Chin up keep safe onward
Thanks Ian
Wobble Boxes (caravans) are in plague proportions in FNQ too and unfortunately there's a few wankers amongst them. 👎
I use 4x stackable 10ltr cube water containers as they are easier to store and cart.
Hope you're feeling better and the van is an easy fix. There's happy adventures ahead😃.
Hello again, wow wouldn’t you think they would have towed you to the nearest mechanic. We hope your van is repaired as you have planned. Yes please keep us updated. We are sending heaps of good vibes from the east side of Australia.❤️🤗
We decided that parking in Northampton was safer than being in Geraldton.
Was calling mechanics and non couldnsee me straight away so would have to have been parked up waiting.
Northampton is such a cute little place with some good art, crafts and gift shops to look at so glad i made the decision to stay here.
Haha I get the realities!! My motorhome is never immaculate, I get the concerns being bogged, got bogged a month ago! Also get the eating and breaking down! I learnt to take it with a grain of salt but geez it has been a lesson! Love watching other travel vlogs as well as yours! :D
To hard to keep the van clean all the time. Once a week I do a big clean.
Haven't been bogged yet, fingers crossed that doesn't happen 😉 thanks for watching and for your support.
@@OzzyVanLife I hope you don't get bogged either! hehe Yes Like to show support to others in the community who I resonate with x
Hello, I am happy to see you are ok with heart and mind. Oh caravans!, yes everywhere but lots of them will go home and sell. This life style can be hard at times. I will write another message when I get to see the rest of your video, we are in a very bad service area. Love and hugs from Aussie nomad friends ❤️🤗🤗
Thanks Gail, yes getting better every day.
Not enjoying the cold weather at all. Hoping the repairs are quick and can head north real soon 😎
I like it!
Guessing there were no budding 'mechanics' amongst all those RV's parked outside? I'm thinking fuel pump issues?
Hahahaha you would think so right.
Surprises me how many people actually know nothing about their vehicles
@@OzzyVanLife Keep us posted and stay safe.
Wraps = less dishes.
Northampton looks lovely, must put it on my list 🙂I hope the van is getting sorted out for you and you can hit the road again soon and get away from those pesky caravans!
Northhampton definitely is a cute little town.
Van seems to be running good now , hopefully no more problems for a while would be nice 🤞
