Dude, I lived it. We were walking out the court almost to the outside of the Alamodome to beat traffic, when the crowd exploded. We ran back in, and saw on the Jumbo Tron, Elliott hit the 3. I still remember it as a kid. After that I was always trying to hit a 3 like that lol, on the tippy toes.

Spurs got back at all their old nemesis in the 2000s. They also lost plenty of heart breakers too. Dallas 2006 comes to mind also Memphis 2011 and Lakers more than once lol

The Spurs looked strong to me in 06, won a franchise-record 63 games, thought they'd repeat, but got so many bad breaks in the Mavs series. And then they were on a steady decline to me till 11. After 06, it seemed like they were just hanging on. They won the title in 07, but they weren't as good in 07 as they were in 06. And then a few athletes made them better again in 11 like Gary Neal & Richard Jefferson, and had they not traded away the latter for the non-athletic tough guy Stephen Jackson in 12, I think they would've hung on to beat the Thunder in 12, and would've beaten the top-heavy but thin Heat.

That's the part I feel like gets missed when talking about the Memorial Day Miracle. Yes, the Spurs were the better team, especially looking at it in hindsight of the sweep and the eventual dynasty that blossomed, but at the time, it was far from a given. I mean...SA was *known* for figuring out ways to lose in the postseason, be it the Strickland debacle in '91, the GSW upset, the HOU upset, etc. If SA loses game 2 and goes to the Rose Garden tied 1-1, who knows how that Blazers' momentum could have coalesced (remember, they'd just eliminated Utah, who was the odds-on favorite coming into the season to finally get over the hump and win a title with MJ retiring from Chicago). The MDM was the first time the city of San Antonio collectively actually believed the team would get it done and win it all. You win a game like that, it's just magical. That feeling is infectious.
I'll always remember reading Elliot's lips telling Mario Elie "I told you!" In the huddle prior to this play, he told Elie, "Get it to me. I got one more left in me."
I'll never forget this. Earlier that day I graduated from middle school and made it on time just to watch the game. Me and family couldn't stop screaming and expressing how much joy we all felt. It was special moment for spurs fans and the city of San Antonio. I'm so glad I got to witness a part of sports history.

I am truly a diehard Spurs fan as far back as I can remember. Growing up in San Marcos, Texas your a Texas Longhorn, Dallas Cowboy and a San Antonio Spur. I will never forget that day my first son was born 5 days earlier and already on top of the world. Then that day took me to a whole new level. I have watched many different people's versions of that day but you have the best one hands down. I love the way you told both sides of the story it was remarkable. 10 out of 10. Thank you

I remember being floored a couple of weeks after the title when on vacation I read in a Canadian newspaper that Sean needed a transplant ASAP and that he had played through kidney failure. I can't imagine what that must have felt like, he probably had trouble even keeping food down, and here he is as a starter the team depends on playing deep into the playoffs in an extremely physical era.
I'm from San Antonio and I'll never forget that day. I was working at Rivercenter mall. And since the Spurs had swept the playoffs up until that moment, we all were allowed to bring TV's to our stores. The moment Sean hit that shot. The entire mall erupted, and I'll never forget that moment. Then all the fans came from the Alamodome to the Mall and continued the celebration.
Been waiting for someone to make a video about this for a long time now. One of the most overlooked moments in Spurs history. I was at this game when I was just a kid just 8yrs old back in the Alamodome. Sean was clutch. Good times.
This was just poetic. The fact that it wasn't one of the top guys or one of the clutchest, but Sean Elliot, who had been through a lot up to that point. The shot also reflected this: He was falling out of bounds, like his career was in Detroit and after his health issues. But he found enough balance while standing on his toes, and still made the shot.
My dad won suite tickets at the Alamo Dome for this game. We were on this side of the basket, on Elliot's side of the court. I was 12 years old, and will never forget witnessing this moment in person. Thanks for reminding me of all the backstory that came with it!

You have to do a rewind of the Blues vs Stars in Game 7 of 2019 2nd Round of the Playoffs. That was the series that catapulted St. Louis to the Stanley Cup championship. Both the Blues and Stars had a respectful rivalry and Game 7 was a tradition between the two teams.

I think the 2012 AFC divisional round game between Baltimore and Denver would be a cool rewind. With Ray Lewis announcing his retirement would be after the season enfed, and Jacoby Jones having 4 total receptions before the game, Denver sending 8 to cover, and the ravens winning in OT to go on to win that super bowl. I guess it's a little biased as I am a ravens fan, but in my brain that's the moment in history I'd like to relive the most as a fan of sports

This was just poetic. The fact that it wasn't one of the top guys or one of the clutchest, but Sean Elliot, who had been through a lot up to that point.
The shot also reflected this: He was falling out of bounds, like his career was in Detroit and after his health issues. But he found enough balance while standing on his toes, and still made the shot.
I remember watching this game on TH-cam a couple years ago and was amazed he walked the tightrope like that. This is great context!

My dad won suite tickets at the Alamo Dome for this game. We were on this side of the basket, on Elliot's side of the court. I was 12 years old, and will never forget witnessing this moment in person. Thanks for reminding me of all the backstory that came with it!

You have to do a rewind of the Blues vs Stars in Game 7 of 2019 2nd Round of the Playoffs. That was the series that catapulted St. Louis to the Stanley Cup championship. Both the Blues and Stars had a respectful rivalry and Game 7 was a tradition between the two teams.
Finally!!! Spurs on the winning end at a Rewinder episode. Hahahaha

that spurs team in the 99 03 05 and 07 finals held teams under 78 multiple times in all 4 series....they were slow and defensive...they held teams under 75 in the 99 05 and 07 finals
@@razkable Yep, the shot clock on offense was changed because of them. Because they would drag the clock out after offense rebounds. 3 offense rebounds in a row. YOu can lose a minutes in game time real quick.
Watch how hard Elliott had to fight to get open, "no free pass" was every teams motto back then. Everyone got bumped anywhere they tried to go. Now the NBA has red carpets out and players run freely anywhere they want to go. League made it an offensive league as opposed to a tough and talented league. Today's game is garbage in my opinion and scoring players should have an asterisk next to their name...*played during the no player can touch you era*

Remember when he slapped the floor in G7 of the '13 finals? That was genuinely shocking to see. Not even a deal with just about any other player, but seeing Duncan do that was just... Damn.

It is pretty crazy/amazing how the Spurs managed to put such good (+great) teams on the floor for such an insanely long stretch. Drafting Robinson & then getting Duncan when his career was winding down set em up really tough for almost 30 years; (but they did also put together such solid supporting casts around them most every yr. Killed the draft so many times-Parker, and then they get Ginolbli in the 2ND goddamn rd! Man. & Leonard on the way after that. What badass scouting in that club back then man).
Spurs were the Red Wings of the NBA for about the same 25-30 yr stretch. Pretty f#%kin unbelievable run (on both counts).

That 98-99 Portland team was one of my favorite teams ever. The deepest team I ever saw. They had 8 players lead the team in 8 different categories.

I think the 2012 AFC divisional round game between Baltimore and Denver would be a cool rewind. With Ray Lewis announcing his retirement would be after the season enfed, and Jacoby Jones having 4 total receptions before the game, Denver sending 8 to cover, and the ravens winning in OT to go on to win that super bowl. I guess it's a little biased as I am a ravens fan, but in my brain that's the moment in history I'd like to relive the most as a fan of sports
