Wow! Simply breathtaking. The daily dangers that these poor miners face are heartbreaking. As a scientist, Amber has always intrigued me. Thank you for a beautiful documentary. Makes me want to visit the DR.
Amber is a beautiful stone, though i come from a place where we don't mine it but need to use our eyes to the best to spot em. winterstorm over Denmark and the baltic sea and for me an 2 hour ferry and it's just walking down the beaches and there will always be something there. usually in the 5-10gr size but have found one piece at 108gr (unpolished) today though with the extensive dredging of sand from the ocean bottom between Denmark, Germany and Poland there comes insane quantities of amber from this as amber is a very bad material for construction so they do everything to sort it out of the sand. but then, noting like finding the golden orange "shiny" yourself and getting a nice trip down the beach at the same time though can be cold...
Nicely put together video. Respect to the hard work and family loyalty of miners. They are rather good looking people and the countryside fascinating. The insect filled amber is impressive and I prefer it to Baltic amber so often lacking insects.
What the narrator describes as 'grey amber' is, produced as a result of sperm whales regurgitating indigestible material, but it's proper name is 'ambergris'.
When I watch videos on TH-cam, I'm not really interested in the subject matter. What I like are ads, but there are never enough of them. That's why this video is my all-time favorite, because the ads run continuously throughout the presentation! Many thanks to M. Voyou!
Hi there I am a huge game of yours and an aspiring gemologist with a great love of stones and I was wondering do you have any advice to get my self started out on the path to being a great gemologist
Nice movie, but I was expecting something about Baltic amber. Dominicanas amber is only a young fossil resin that has little in common with true Baltic amber..
the red comes from oxidation on the surface of the amber, if you look closely on the bottom of the stone, its not flat. if the jeweler sanded the piece flat, it would most likely loose the red.
So basically this is one big advert to encourage us all to go exploit our environment and people . Amber like many things in nature is beautiful but I am not interested in exploiting others for it . If it is washed up by the seas and collected that hopefully puts no one in danger or our environment , a much gentler way to live WITH nature , not against it
the poor girl at the end putting on all that crappy costume looking jewellery at the end, she looked way prettier with out it on, big and chunky just makes her look frail
I couldn’t help but feel sad for Tony 🥴. It bothers me that the locals around gems all over this world seem to live on so little income and the buyers sit back like a fat cat 😬

Very interesting and beautiful workmanship
Excellent production. It made me appreciate Dominican amber more.
NO MENTION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE AT ALL.
Natural resources are exploited because of the need for financial/economic progress but what can be destroyed can also experience a rebirth

I came here to see amber, 20 minutes in we are still talking about some blue rock that is not amber. I'm so confused.
Lol
That's good.
Did you learn about Laminar? Its more fascinating and more important to learn about endemic species and rocks then ones spread worldwide

I once got a piece of Amber in New York City. She was a pole dancer.

Do you really have to lick the soil?
licking it is to help with examining the stone. saliva gives its a polished look, therefore the miners can see the color, clarity, etc..
Digging in clay is fucking tough
